Maybe his best book ever. Not horror, not scifi, not fantasy, not historical fiction, but a blend of all of them. The guy is amazing - he doesn't need to write anymore with everything he's done to date yet he is still turning out good, 1000+ page novels every 18 months.
Unlike 9-11,the world stopped for four days.No regular tv or radio was broadcat until Tuesday. There were no cell phones,no internet,no video games, etc. The NFL embarrassed itself by playing that Sunday.
n all honesty, the best novel of the last ten or fifteen years. Don't believe those naysayers; they are USA's Republicans who hate King because of his liberal views. I am sure more than half of them did not even read this great book, let alone buying it. Read it and be rewarded. Thank you Mr. King.
the book is more like a romance novel by Stephen King. not much history, science-fiction or horror there. and to say that it explores what would have happen if JFK wasn't assassinated is an overstatement - near the end of the book, those 'epic' changes in year 2011 take like 1 page of the book, he doesn't really explore it. it is really a love story set in early 60'. overall it's a good read. and I did like the travel-in-time mechanics proposed by King, and the Green Card Man concept ;)
Stephen King was a good writer, the key word is "was". This book, unfortunately is garbage. I heard him read some of it. Too bad, because it's a good concept.
i'm writing a book called " What Time Is it" and it about Time travel, going back into the past, and into future. it about at first, Jeff who go back from 1990 to 1986, on the day president Lincoln got assassination by john Wilkes booth, Jeff saves Lincoln by having him move out of the way, just before the gun was fired. about the future, he gets fired and gets a bad days, until he changed it after saving president Lincoln from being shot.
I'm halfway through the book and to say it was thinly-veiled propaganda from a registered Democrat would be an understatement; and despite time travel being completely impossible, if you can suspend your disbelief it is one of his better efforts from the last 10 years. It's still no IT though.
This novel is selling like hot cakes. It is at the top of both Publishers Weekly and NY Times Bestsellers list for three weeks and NY Times chose it among the best ten books of 2011. Way to go, Stephen! You certainly deserve all those sales and praises! You are simply the best.
I think I this is one of my favorite books by king. Since i am an uber King fan I have been geeking out at all the refrences to his other books. I hope Roland shows up that would be cool. Dont tell me how it ends I am not done yet
@ One7823 This book is not about any conspiracy theory, or who did or did not kill Kennedy; its a fictional novel, as all of King's work is, about someone who travels back in time to stop the event, and the consequences of doing so. Might not be a bad idea to read the book before you make a criticism based on your own ideas.
Just read the book, and I think the most captivating moments in the book were "George Amberson's" encounters with Jodie and Sadie. I really did fall in love with that town and that girl it was pretty trippy.
He wants to believe a lie because of pride. Oswald did not kill JFK and to even think that Oswald could assassinate JFK on his own is retarded. He refuses to accepth that his own government could murder their own president....well WAKE UP Stephen WAKEY FUCKIN WAKEY....JFK was murdered at the hands of his own, CIA, FBI, Military and the White House. Their hands are stained with the blood of JFK.
I'm up to the first couple of pages of Chapter 17, and so far, the various plotlines have been the most captivating of an work of fiction I've read this fall. I nearly cried myself when GA left Jodie.
Wait. Does Stephen King really believe that Oswald assassinated JFK on his own, for real, or, does he use that to debunk that theory in the book? If so Stephen King is as dumb as every other gullible idiot that believes the same thing.
I just finished the book. GREAT STORY!! Not a 'Horror' like most of King's books are. Possibly the best King book I've ever read. I recommend to everyone who a) Love's King; b) Is fascinated by JFK History; and c) Likes to travel back in time (Y) (Y) - TWO THUMBS UP
@emdub022 You find it better than IT, or Salems Lot, or even Christine? Scratch that, Stephen King is just awesome, all me friends read Twilight and i said to them Barlow can kick Twinkle boys ass 20 times over
when will the movie come out? will thay try to put it out in nov,2013 on the 50th Anniversry. Will thay try to make movie somewhat different then book?
I became fascinated with this story, what a clever idea! Can't wait to get book.Look forward to movie. It's making me think about what life would be like today if Kennedy was not shot.
For the first time in my 36 year adoration of King's work, I'm going to enjoy this new one (11/22/63) in audio book format. I just listened to the first hour (of thirty) and I'm hooked. Excellent stuff. I don't know HOW this man cranks out so many words. He has another Dark Tower novel (completed) coming out in a few months, and he's now working on a sequel to The Shining titled "Dr. Sleep." which will probably come out in 2013.
@ldchappell1 Follow up on earlier posting. I've now listened to 8 hours of the audio novel "11/22/63" and I'm enjoying iy very much. Several characters from his 1986 novel "IT" have appeared. Most particularly Bevvie from the Levee.
BETTER GET THAT SHIT BOOK OFF THAT IS A COPYRIGHT VIOLATION KING MADE UP SOME FAGGOT FICTION HE STOLE FROM ONE OF MY MANUSCRIPTS WHEN I WAS SOLICTING IT TO PUBLISHERS. I WILL DO MORE THAN SUE I WILL ALSO CHARGE HIM WITH CONSPIRACY OF HUMAN ABOMINATION WHICH CARRIES THE DEATH PENALTY & I HAVE USED IT SEVERAL TIMES. JUDGES HAVE BEEN REAL GOOD TO ME AND CALL IN COPS TO BEAT THEM TO DEATH RIGHT IN THE COURT BUILDING!
The book is outstanding so far. I love it. The method of time travel sounds so ludicrous when people talk about it, but when King writes it it's like the most natural thing in the world.
@cruisersism, Oswald was stationed at Atsugi Air Base in Japan which was crawling with CIA and Intelligence agents connected with the U2 Spy Program being run out of there. Oswald was very likely recruited into the clandestine intelligence services during this time, and began creating a communist cover for himself. Interestingly shortly after he defected to Russia and allegedly gave radar intelligence to the Russians, they managed to shoot down a U2 spy plane not too long after...
@cruisersism, Before Oswald joined the Marines he was a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol with CIA pilot David Ferry. Later after Oswald returned from Russia he was taken under the wing of a personal friend of George H.W. Bush named George deMohrenschildt, likely one of Oswald's CIA handlers. During this time Oswald's "friend" was involved in a CIA Operation called WUBRINY and WUSALINE allegedly connected with a Haitian coup, but it is more likely this was a cover story for meetings with Washington.
@baraka1408 even his grocery list would probably be all like "And then as he walked up isle 2, he saw the last box of munchies, and he thought to himself, is it worth it. " lol
@DrMacy1980 He makes a LOT of references to characters in his other books (A lot of references being in the dark tower). So i'm almost certain this is a REFERENCE, however i'm doubtful that it's the same character.
@hbkShawnMichaels6 I do believe Roland got his trumpet back at the very end, but I'd be shocked if there weren't more "easter egg" references in the new one.
I received this book as a gift & am excited to read it. Mr. King, you are awesome! ♥♥
