You know I just don't get it? I play Bass and why do people try to prove how fast they can play?

Bass is almost never the stand out in the band. It's meant to help tie the drums and rythym in with the guitars and make it all work.

If someone wants to play blistering solos like this why not play the guitar? It sounds better.

Some of the simplest bass lines will stick in your head while a solo like this is forgettable.

Just think of Crazy train.Or Type O's Black NO.1 Simple but good.

You know what I just don't get? I play bass and why are bassists so conformist and play exactly what every other bassist plays? Sure, everyone can play root notes and "tie the drums and rhythm in with the guitars and make it all work" but once you can do that, are you a good bassist? Music isn't about doing what everyone else does, it's about artistic freedom.

@eaterofcandy Most of the time when you write unnecessarily fast bass lines they will sound cluttered with the rest of the band which also will not make you a good musician. The bass definitely should play more than the root because there are much better ways to keep rhythm but it shouldn't stray too far from the rhythm section unless it's during a solo or fill. I have heard fast bass playing work in some occasions but it is sometimes best to chill and play simple.

m8 its all about finding your own style, not copying what other people do... its that problem that made us bassist seem like the boring stand around in a band. Look at muse, i love their bass lines, why? because they are different, as fucking if im stayin behind in the rhythm group, i play to my best abilities, i find new sounds, i play some mean shit, fast or slow :)

Es lo más fácil del bajo. recuerdo que la primera vez que toqué un bajo eléctrico, lo primero que hice fue Slap. y desde ahí solamente he mejorado la técnica, pero de un principio no sonaba mal. es más difícil obtener el groove para tocar con dedos. (mutear por ejemplo).

loco, una pregunta, me acabo de comprar un american fender, pero, me he dado cuenta q tengo manos pequeñas, miden de largo solo 16,5 cm u_U quiseira saber si no hay problema para tocar este bajo, q es grande, de 34 pulgadas creo, y si puedo hacer slapping con el. gracias

Disculpa la demora. La verdad siempre que tocas por primera vez un bajo uno dice...wow tengo las manos pequeñas no voy a poder. No es así. Lo único que tienes que hacer son ejercicios de elongación. pon tu dedo indice en el traste 1 y luego pon el dedo meñique en el traste más lejano que puedas (y que te siga sonando bien claro) y haz secuencias ahí...y anda avanzando uno por uno con los traste haciendo eso...
