  • Used to drink 20+ cups a day. Got it down to 8. Now down to 5 or 6 and a cup or 2 of Earl Gray. The doctor still wants me to cut down even more to 2 or 3 cups a day. I cant see it happening(admiteddly, now I no longer take illegal drugs coffee is one of the few pleasures I have).

  • Yeah, i am also a coffee addict. However, i have learned to manage my addiction by adding milk and sugar to it. Sounds stupid, but when I drank black coffee, I was consuming about a pot per day. I read a book about coffee, and it said the reason for this is because black coffee has close to 0 calories and by definition can not be considered a food but a drug, however simply adding sugar and milk adds calories to it, making it by definition a "food."

  • @thefreeflowification Yes, I made the switch to black tea in the mornings. The past few months I have only consumed 1-2 cups of tea per day. I have had coffee about once every two weeks. Tea is amazing. If you are planning on quitting coffee, I recommend to just switch to black tea. It satisfies your craving for caffeine, doesn't make you crash and it doesn't give you urges to drink more throughout the day compared to coffee.

  • There are 4 contraindications to caffiene: Migraine headache, gastric upset, anxiety, and cardiac arrythmias. If you have one of those, you should stop using it.

    But unless you have one, you should use it. It's not just alzheimers that it delays/prevents. It's also diabetes, Parkinson's, Ovarian cancer, liver cancer..

    The more caffiene, the better.

  • Eventually, you build up a tolerance to caffeine just as with any other drug. Caffeine may be great at first, but soon the effects will become substantially less and less with each cup. It is better to stay off of caffeine and try diet and exercise

  • i chug a pot before i lift or play ball. that will get u jacked out of your mind when u mix the caffiene with the natural adreneline rush of exercise. it is what i imagine crack feels like.

I don't have trouble sleeping...I excercise daily so this probably helps. However...I do have pretty bad anxiety, which I have also had for a while. I never knew any of this stuff people are saying about not drinking coffee enhancing musical ability..is this true!? I'm a guitarist and that's the ONLY reason I would stop drinking the drink of the gods...

  • @RedEyePergo i'm not very tall...but no one in my family is, even the non coffee drinkers. my friend who started drinking coffee at a young age is really tall, so your theory is correct, but there are always exceptions.

  • I quit cold turkey. It was very painful. But now I sleep. I lost excess weight. I'm more skillful in my technique on musical instruments. My moods are much better. I just feel so much better. I guess I was way over average.

  • Same here. I'm more lyrical in my solos and more awake when I do play the trumpet or euphonium. or whatever it it.

  • Most folks can't sleep of coffee, but with me it works the other way around, I can't get enough of the stuff.

  • I measure my coffee intake in pots....not cups. I have heard most research that say coffee actually has more positive effects than negative. At any rate...being a former addict myself,I know how tough addiction is and if coffee is my worst habit..then I can live with that. Peace fellas.

  • @Methadone4Life Keep it under 5 cups a day. This is generally considered what you need to avoid aggravating cardiovascular disease.

  • Its not necessarily coffee. Its CAFFEINE! I get heart arrhythmias if I drink more than a sip of it. So don't blow it off like I did. It could happen to you. You could get addicted to it, but it is not like smack or coke. Couple of headaches and you're done.

  • Coffee addiction sounds hilarious, but it's very real. If I go a day without a cup of coffee I get headaches, mood swings and have a difficult time concentrating.

    I realize this isn't the norm, but some of us are just wired to fail without stimulants.

  • willpower will get you over the stage of caffeine withdrawal symptoms, but some are more prone to it than others, e.g. those with sleep apnea

  • @j5356972 The easy way to quit is to taper off the volume you drink. If you are suffering from caffeine addiction, you may need to trick your body to lose the dependency.
