I have a question regarding the 1911 style pistol. I was told that the proper way to grip a 1911 is with the strong hand thumb resting on top of the thumb safety. I am finding that really uncomfortable so i have switched to the thumb under safety. Here's my issue, i was told from fellow shooters that if i grip the 1911 like that i could accidentally hit the safety on which could be fatal in some situations (self defense). Any advice or is a 1911 just not for me?

Your hand position is wrong! the way you are holding it can cut your hands if you do it wrong even slightly. Your shooting hand should be how it normally is when you're shooting a pistol, but your second hand should be under the first, gripping under the magazine and gripping the back of your hand. there are two main advantages to shooting pistols like this. 1: you can direct the muzzle rise of the pistol. 2: your hand won't get cut! I used to shoot like that until i cut my hand doing it.
Actually, the way I discussed is better with the deagle because you can direct the muzzle rise to the side rather than the head by tilting it just slightly.
Whats wrong with it? I like advice on shooting, but when I see a way that can hurt you, and, in a self defense scenario, kill you because of injuring your hand, I disagree with it, then state a better way of doing it.

Slide release doesn't always work especially if your outside in the rain or sweating, and you still have to pull it back a little bit more even when it's locked back to release it. The way this guy pulls the slide back he's either gay or only shoots in clean dry conditions.
Here is a tip, looks like you are squeezing the gun so much you are making the gun shake. Try loosen up your grip a little bit and see if can be more accurate, the gun will recoil right back to your point of aim, so dont worrya bout trying to fight the recoil, it only back fires
Here is a statistic for ya. I live in Georgia. In the City of Kennesaw (an Atlanta suburb) A law was made that REQUIRES BY LAW that EVERY property owner own a firearm!! Guess what? Sorry, but no. You just confused yourself again. The 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge has been noted to OVER penetrate its targets. Its weakness is not in its ability to penetrate but instead in its ability to transfer kinetic energy, something the .45 does very well. However, this is the case with FMJ and not expanding ammunition like hollowpoints in which the 9mm can be compared to the .45 ACP Ball. Oh, and by the way. Glock makes a .45 with nearly double the ammunition carried by the 1911.
The 9x19mm NATO is just a necked-up version of the 7.65mm round. Naturally, double as fast as .45 ACP nonetheless will not penetrate anything beyond 35m distance. U will also need half of your magazine to provide stopping power and that in the case where the pistol will actually function and not jam because of the slack magazine spring or the slide won't come off its rail right onto your teeth! By the way I didn't criticize a Glock on a .45 version. Just the 9mm thank u..

Now as to the reliability of double stack magazines, nothing could be further from the truth. While they may have had problems in the past concerning feed lips, weak springs, etc, those problems have been completely fixed.
And what you're speaking of, the slide firing backwards from the slide, doesn't happen with Glocks or any other semi-automatic pistol except the old Berettas first comissioned by the Army. For the actual bullet, as I said before, while it may be lacking in FMJ type, there are expanding +P loads made by Winchester, Federal, Corbon, Blackhills, and a myriad of countless other manufacturers out there that parallel the .45 ball in stopping power if not exceed it. Do some research.

True. Recoil could make you latch the safety to the on position. Try other grips and / or try the Colt Commander for a better fit (although it's 9mm)

Use? You can use them at any age, you can't buy them from a FFL dealer until you are 21, some states allow private sales to go as low as 18.
Less "mass shootings", perhaps. But the UK crime rates increased after the gun ban.
Nothing wrong with a father who legally owns his pistol teaching his son/daughter to shoot it. That's how a lot of soldiers in the military learn how to shoot, from their families. They get better with military training, sure, but it all starts at home.

This guy is holding the pistol too tightly, causing his hand to shake. You should not hold the pistol too tightly when you shoot it, and you shouldn't resist the recoil, because it will fall naturally back to it's original position.

Just to clarify something. The issues I referred to, namely slack magazine springs, defective slide rail and corrosion on the barrel have been noted extensively on the M9. Not the Glock. I'd appreciate a Glock .45 but do u think it could match the reliability of my Colt M1911A1 having fired nearly 13,000 rounds without a problem?

Servicemen like me have seen quite a few M9's failing to penetrate the target unlike the Colt M1911A1 used to do.. U don't know what u're on about mate..

Sorry, but no. You just confused yourself again. The 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge has been noted to OVER penetrate its targets. Its weakness is not in its ability to penetrate but instead in its ability to transfer kinetic energy, something the .45 does very well. However, this is the case with FMJ and not expanding ammunition like hollowpoints in which the 9mm can be compared to the .45 ACP Ball. Oh, and by the way. Glock makes a .45 with nearly double the ammunition carried by the 1911.

The 9x19mm NATO is just a necked-up version of the 7.65mm round. Naturally, double as fast as .45 ACP nonetheless will not penetrate anything beyond 35m distance. U will also need half of your magazine to provide stopping power and that in the case where the pistol will actually function and not jam because of the slack magazine spring or the slide won't come off its rail right onto your teeth! By the way I didn't criticize a Glock on a .45 version. Just the 9mm thank u..

Anything? That's a wee bit farfetched, don't you think? As for that distance, pistols are meant as sidearms, your rifle is your primary, less it breaks. Now as to the reliability of double stack magazines, nothing could be further from the truth. While they may have had problems in the past concerning feed lips, weak springs, etc, those problems have been completely fixed.

And what you're speaking of, the slide firing backwards from the slide, doesn't happen with Glocks or any other semi-automatic pistol except the old Berettas first comissioned by the Army. For the actual bullet, as I said before, while it may be lacking in FMJ type, there are expanding +P loads made by Winchester, Federal, Corbon, Blackhills, and a myriad of countless other manufacturers out there that parallel the .45 ball in stopping power if not exceed it. Do some research.

no he is expelling the mag, he loaded 7 rounds total, he then fires 7 so the mag is dry, it looks like he shoots after because they replay it again but with a close-up
