  • thanx Tracy..

    regards

  • Okay so where's the "how" in building a character? Sure as hell wasn't explained.

  • really nice tip very helpful

  • Such an annoying human being.

  • Thanks! I now know that the opposite of Direct is Indirect... Which is the reason i came here...

  • wow that was about as useful as a singing pile of shit.

  • @yourmom1110 Don't know you, have nothing to prove. Get a girlfriend little man. Or find something else to occupy your time. Go make some more of your shitty music. HAHA I remember the first time I got frooty loops... Tell your mom to do better videos and people wont hate.

  • Why is she just listing them? This would help no one.

  • This woman is a total idiot, watch her video on the "British" accent. It's ridiculous.

  • Faker!

  • lots of help in this video NOT!!!

  • tht was so funny!

  • character is action driven. not just painting every line in a selfish or unselfish way. this, in my opinion is very poor advice and is the quickest way to becoming a boring and predicatable actor. any line in a piece of text is an action in an attempt to achieve a task or goal. it is NOT an indication of that person's 'character' or personality. acting should reflect real life and when in real life do we think 'i am selfish therefore i speak in this tone'. budding actors PLEASE read meisner!!!

  • @JayMacul,

Very true. This lady is trying to isolate a character from a single personality. She's too linear. Real life and the best forms of acting are more like bouquet of colors.

    Watch this one...

  • shadap your useless get some one else

  • Just like Americans have a different dialect for the different areas of the US, so British people have diffring dialects, i have worked all over the british isles from Scotland, (Billy Connoly), to Wales (Max Boyce),Newcastle,(Jimmy Nail,Roy "chubby Brown), birmingham, (Jaspar Carrot), from Yorkshire to bristol, and London, To Stoke-on-Trent, Liverpool to Mancheste, all have their own dialect, there is no point in thsi stupid woman pretentding that she can teach English accents.

  • all i want to know is how to get into the mind state of the charector she just describes the charector in general :S

  • She didn't meet my standers or help in any way.

  • Shes must be a crap actress.

  • Haha...some of you are so hypocritical. You're telling people not to take her advice, yet you give your own and expect people to take it. What makes you an expert over her?

  • Please, actors -- Do not take this woman's advice. No one is "funny" or "dumb" or "mean."

In reality, there is no such thing as an individual. All that exists is the character and the way in which he responds to his surroundings and his scene partner(s). Don't try to "play" personality traits. If you understand human behavior, it will just happen.

  • Geez, I would like more examples, there was just a few

    ¬¬

  • Yawn, this ones not as funny as the british accent one!

  • Tone has nothing to do with the character being selfish or unselfish, it has to do with the scene itself and what is going on in that scene. And a shy person will NOT always speak in a different "Tone", well unless by tone she meant maybe a softer voice.

In Film acting the key is subtlety and creating detail if not already apparent on the script. For instance grabbing a spoon, taking a sip of coffee, etc. all add to the character's current personality if done correctly :)

  • This is very misleading information. The way you talk has nothing to do with weather you are "selfish" or "unselfish". You may use a sarcastic tone but that would have been conjured in the moment.

  • wow that didn't help at all...

  • @jessebilla yeah well you must really suck!

  • Taking the time to sit down and compile a massive, extensive biography for your character can often prove to be quite useful - even if it's with things that really have nothing to do with the script. Oftentimes, it enables the actor to imagine the character as a living, breathing person, rather than just an inanimate idea on a page. Thoughts?

  • Thank you very much for posting everything you posted! It was very helpful.:)

  • she is doing a good job mate... nice over view on the character's debelopment.... IBKRP - is boring...

  • That was good.Does anyone know what a monologue is?Sorry im kinda a newbie at this.

  • Hi. A monologue is a short scene that just has one person.

  • It doesn't have to have just one person though. Monologues almost always happen with at least two people in a scene pretty much all the time. A soliloquy is more with just one person, thinking out loud, while a monologue is just a long chunk of lines said by one person in the midst of a scene.

  • a monologue is when only one person is acting lets say you have to do a monologue then it will only be you on stage or camara or whatever

  • A monologue is an extended uninterrupted speech by a character in a drama or comedy. The character may be speaking his or her thoughts aloud, directly addressing another character, or speaking to the audience, you taking any classes?

  • how can u tell wen they r tlkin to the audaince or to anothr charector thts also wht i hve trouble with

  • @ImjustTAYLORmade you can usually tell by the work.once you read it you can get a feel of who the character is speaking to. Mostly theartre speaks to the audience. Film MIGHT speak to the camera.MIGHT. rarely. but if it does or you get the impression that it does, speak the lines like your speaking naturally to a person...all other sinarios most likely are speaking to another character or themselves.

  • thanx alot.tht rele helps meh

  • she never got to the point..

  • she told us she was going to talk about what she's calling "personality traits", she then gives many examples of what she means by this term, and then she applies the term to the actual act of being a character.

  • Comment removed

  • she did not really give any advice .

  • Yes she did. You gotta look at yourself at how you act when you're pissed, sad, annoyed, distant happy, etc and analyze the tone of your voice then apply those to the characters you're going to audition for.

  • she raises her eyebrows too much unnecessarily like she looks a little bit oversympathetic and she could get away with just leaving them normal it would look a bit more natural

  • Yess! she is what we in the industry call an eyebrow actress. meaning that she uses her eyebrows to punctuate and show the importance of what she is saying.

  • finally someone agreed with me on that sweet

  • Thanks =) too bad it was a short one

  • i love the advice.
