This song always used to make me cry when I was little because I would imagine what it would be like if my dad left us and my dad used to sing this at parties playing the guitar...then when he died when I was 19yrs old in '86...this song always reminded me of those great days...even though I used to cry...thanks :')
THIS IS A GREAT SONG, VERY SAD THOUGH. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO REMIND ALL THE MEN OUT THERE THAT YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO HUG YOUR FATHER AND TELL HIM YOU LOVE HIM...
Fantastic! I'm a grown man and this song still brings a tear to my eye. Wayne Newton had the big hit with this song in America, It is a timeless classic. Thanks so much for uploading it.
My father would've been 79 today. He died 22 years ago this past July. This song makes me think of him every time I hear it. Happy Birthday Daddy. I miss you.
We I was a youg girl, like 45 years ago, I can remember saying this to my father....We lived on a cane farm in Burnett Heads, outside Bundaberg.....My youngest sister 10 years my junior said the same....The song relates to my 3 younger sibblins, as they went through the mothert leaving the home...............I had left home.
Thank you so much for putting this song on Youtube. I have tried to find a copy of the Daniel Boone version and it seems like you can only find Wayne Newton version. This is the version that I grew up on. Brings back many memories. Thanks again!
This song made me cry. My dad left when I was little. Later, he told me that just as he had pulled onto the highway, this song came over the radio and he pulled over because he was crying so badly. I wish he had turned around and come back so much it hurts. Please, if anyone out there is thinking of leaving your family, don't. Knowing your parent chose to go leaves behind scars that never really heal. When my dad lost his memory, I prayed he wouldn't remember this. It might have broken him.
@MissPiccollo I was going to leave, but every time I thought of doing so this song haunted me: it didn't need to be played but was just there in my head.
@MissPiccollo RIGHT NOW MY SON IS GOING THROUGH A CUSTODY BATTLE WITH HIS EX GIRLFRIEND, SHE HAS TAKEN THE BABY AND WONT LET HIM SEE HIS SON, ITS BEEN A FEW MONTHS NOW AND WE ARE STILL TRYING TO FIND OUT WHERE THEY LIVE, THE COURT IS HELPING US RIGHT NOW. BUT I WRITE YOU CAUSE I UNDERSTAQND YOUR FEELINGS AND WISH YOU COULD HAVE MADE THIS YOUNG GIRL UNDERSTAND HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO HAVE YOUR FATHER IN YOUR LIFE. LOVE YOUR MESSAGE, I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST
my mom sang this to me as a child after there divorce. it was the only thing that would put me to sleep, brings a tear to my eye now and makes me realize how much i miss home!! miss you guys lots and glad you both worked it out and got back together
my mom told me that I had to wach this video, because it helpt her through a rugh time when her dad was in the hospital. she told me that se always was smelling in the hat of my granddad because it smelled like hem, and then when this song was on the radio, she always had to cry ♥
i have listen to this very song every day after it came out until i lost my record in a house fire in 1979. i loved this song when i first heard it and i still do. sure i cry when ever time i hear it. because i was hoping some day that my real dad would come to me. i did have the best dad ever he was my step dad. even though my step dad was the best dad every. dad i always knew who you was. i was only 9 yrs old when you made this record.thank you daneil boone for making this sweet song.
daddy i miss you so much and wish i could see you on this fathers day. I may have never shown you how much i loved you but i did. Wish you were here love you always. xxxx
I never knew Daniel Boone had a UK hit with this. He didn't show up on the US charts until 1972 with Beautiful Sunday. In 1972, Wayne Newton hit #4 with Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast, and that's the only version I ever knew. And while Boone's verison is nice, I'm still partial to Wayne's. Thanks for posting this!
i would sing this song to myself in my bedroom ,i had to be alone cos it would always bring tears to my eyes, still love it though thanks for posting , this site is so good

Wayne Newton-1972; but Daniel Boone had already had a hit with it in Britain in 1971.

This is okay, but I definitely prefer Wayne Newton's arrangement. Daniel Boone should stick to Beautiful Sunday.
MrTrashcan1 2 years ago
Interesting how you think Daniel should stick to "Beautiful Sunday",when, actually this song came BEFORE "Beautiful Sunday"
cmulwee001 2 years ago
Touche. All I meant was that "Beautiful Sunday" was his hit, and "Daddy" wasn't, and I think for good reason.
MrTrashcan1 2 years ago
Actually, to me, this would have been a perfect song for Elvis to record. His deep- soulful voice would've suited the song perfectl.-
