  • I really like this video. I was able to follow it along as a noob and after working with some glass this weekend, it makes more sense. I think I am becoming addicted.

  • what are the dimensions of the cutouts you did for the L7s after watching this im inspired to make one for my L7s

  • @wolfrm3 To be honest, I don't exactly know. I used the cardboard template that comes with the subwoofers and routered two copies. That's the beauty of a router. It allows you to focus on the parts you haven't made and recreate the ones you have. Sorry I wasn't much help. Maybe you can try Kickers' website. And thanks so much for the feedback. Sometimes I wonder if this is doing anyone any good at all.

  • what are the dimensions of the cutouts you did for the L7s after watching this im inspired to make one for my L7s

  • Sorry about taking so long to respond. Been getting my ass kicked at the shop.

  • @3erBMWe90

  • damn I love this video. time to get me a compressor, looks like it would be a major pita to do this without pneumatic sanders

  • @shikakabubu

Yeah, that's how I started. Everything by hand. My compressor is the lungs of my work. Good Luck & Thanks!

  • hey if you wouldnt mind one question: at 8 seconds do you just use regular wood glue to construct the macenite frame?

  • Would anyone be interested in a weekend course? I'm thinking about offering a friday night-sunday afternoon class. Catered to three diffenent levels of expertise; beginner, novice and advanced. Materials would be provided. And you would get to keep what you make. Also, to all store owners I would also offer exclusive rights to all Los Labs products for your region. This means you could have fiberglass boxes for your customers in two days rather than two weeks. Please let me know. Thank you!

  • @loslabs what state and city u located in?

  • @loslabs Hello guys !! Like your work. I'm a sound system designer/developer and looking to step it up. I've never done fiberglass boxes. But looking at how it's done how can I join the course? And where are you located? Thx for the videos..

  • @brown2muzik I'm putting together a schedule very soon. I will break the topics up by weekend and will provide all of the materials, tools, etc. And depending on the response; room and board. I want all of us clustered together so we can really submerse ourselves in creativity.

  • @loslabs wow thats a good idea i would be down but im in Vallejo, Ca if you could please send me an email. conradcullen91@gmail.com

  • Pixies - Where Is My Mind

  • hey can you use that stuff to make parts for bikes. comment back

  • You can make anything out of fiberglass!

  • how the hell would you tune that???

  • Simpsons approximation for the Vas (volume) of the speaker, calculate port volume and on some amplifiers, such as the jl slash series, where Q, Center and Infrasonic Frequencies, Slope, etc. can be selected.

  • @loslabs hmm you gotta hook me up with a link

  • @dlzonwlz

    just google loslabs

  • if u sanded that whole box theres no way the mud work is straight

  • how many layers of fibreglass do you use?

    thx.

  • Is their a specific kind of fleece you would suggest

  • what's the name of all the materials you used ??

  • this is a real man :)

  • @stylering123654 yup doesnt even wear a fume mask while using the resin haha i always do or u end up higher then hell

  • it doesnt sound thick enough when you sanded the edges. iv never been a lover of fiberglass, is it strong enough to get good bass out of or is it just for show?? Very Very nice box tho id love it.

  • @MrTuckleberry

I personally prefer fib erglass boxes and think they have superior sound quality, frequency response and flexiblity (as far as fit). However, like anything else, if it is not built correctly (thick enough, sealed tight enough, etc) it too will sound and look like shit.

  • How long did it take for you to make that? For real

  • @TheFnCandyMan

It takes about two full days

  • CANDY PAINT RED!!!

  • looks good man

    greets from holland

  • @sandraprcic91

Hello to you too! always wanted to go there

  • What's that green stuff you poured onto it about 2 minutes in? was it bondo?

  • @burntXfenix

Yes, it was bondo (body filler)

  • sorry man but this box would sound like shit.

  • please tell me What's the name of that song? I love it ....great video

  • "where is my mind"- The Pixies...one of my favorites :)

  • @MrSelfish159

    Pixies, "Where is my mind?"

  • what kind of material do u use on the fleece? epoxy resin or fiberglass resin ? .

  • what kinda paint do you use?

    regular car paint?

  • yes; regular base/clear just like a car

  • I like the box man, well done, god it looks so easy in video like that....hah

  • the holes at the bottom is that for air intake?

  • yes it is two seperate ports, one for each speaker

  • I always stretch the cloth first then i soak it with resin and it will take alot of resin. After it sets i take the fiberglass and apply it to the cloth. I usually tear or cut up pieces to fit then layer them adding resin with a brush as i go i usually do at least three layers of fiberglass and sometimes more depending on the size and weight of the sub. Form smaller things like mid range speaker two layers will usually do the job.

  • wat kind of fiberglass do u use brand wise

  • what is your hardener to fiberglass mixture? and for the body filler what is your mixture...also what are the brands of the materials that you use (fiberglass, body filler, hardener, everything)... and last question, where did you buy your supplies?

  • Nice work guy. I own a shop in tennessee and most of the time i put the actual fiberglass on the inside of the box so i can do the bodywork with fillers on the outside for me it seems like less work that way and i use alot of hot glue to support my ring before i use the mold cloth it works great and comes out easy when done but nice work

  • @powelld8621 I like to do the same thing. I keep an opening in the bottom of the frame i can seal up later and just do all the haevy work inside the box and a thin coat outside and you can just do a thin layer of filler outside also..

  • @powelld8621 do you put the fiberglass on the cloth before you strech it on to the sub box

  • Very good video. Quick and makes it look so easy!

  • So, what was the rectangles at the bottom for? Just looks or did they have a purpose?

  • they are ports for air to escape. L7's are bad ass in a box with ports.

  • Ah, I see. So, I take it the ports enhe the sound? Can a box still work without them? I'm trying to learn about custom audio, it's one of those things i'm clueless about but curious to learn.

  • Yeah. it is tuff, some speakers its good with and some its not. If you listen to death metal it will help them to not "bottom out" because of the constant bass. None ported could be good for rap or music thats not as upbeat. it also depends on airspace where you have them placed. Just keep messing with things and you will find different things out. It will not hurt if they do not have ports. You just might not be able to crank it as loud.

  • Thanks for the info.

  • @redhotcustoms Theyre called ports. They let the woofers flex more by letting some of the air travel outside of the box.. IT makes some subs sound better, and some sound worse. just depends on the subs, the box, and the area you`re putting them in.. You got 3 negatives on this comment but i decided to answer your question because i think its a good question and anyone who has an interest in this type of stuff deserves to know the answer..

  • Thanks. And honestly, I didn't even realize I had 3 negatives, I just don't care about that stuff. But thanks for the answer man.

  • My guess full Green?

  • good job, man!

  • 1.Put on fleece.

2.Soak fleece with fiberglass resin.(let it dry)

    3.(sand)

    4.Put on fiber glass+resin 3-4 layers,

one layer vertically other horizontally. (let it dry)

    5.(sand)

6.Apply body filler.(green stuff) (let it dry)

    7.(sand)

    8.Spray on base coat...

  • pixies - where is my mind

  • Nice one!!

  • song name? artist?

  • Placebo Where is My Mind

Its on the Fight Club soundtract (It was the first song on the ending credits)

  • nice job, I'm trying to build one too. How many lares of FG did you use on it?

  • very nice. good work

  • nice job

  • it doesnt matter if your black too. i really dont get why black people think its ok to call people nigga.

  • Awesome box, so normally a wooden box would be 5/8" or 3/4" mdf all around, but on these how thick do you build up the fiber/bondo? Can you get away with thinner walls using this material?

  • you should do at least 3 to 4 coats for sub boxes...with things like amps or interior, 1 maybe 2 will do. thinner walls = a box that WILL break = a waste of time!

  • nice work man

  • gee what's the name of the website? I can't seem to find it anywhere...

  • loslabs

  • lol it was a joke since you said it at least 20 times in the comments.

  • loslabs has videos for sale

  • Making a fiberglass box isn't expensive at all between 60 to 90 bucks should cover it depending on the type of box you want. You should watch a few more videos to get an Idea of what you want and whats less of a head ache because fiber glassing ain't too much of a hassle but making that perfect frame for a flawless shape and sanding/prepping can be a downright pain sometimes.

  • when did he use the actual fiberglass cloth? Did he mix it in with the resin?

  • loslabs will show you how to make the in depth

  • I try using those mix cup with resin and it hard to clean after ward. I Never put resin on those cup. I use cheap wal-mart aluminum foil cut and it work good. IT not hard to do fiberglass work. As long you have to the correct tools and knowleges. IT take time, patient, and practice too.

  • same method for body repair, that shit is messy

  • takes time but the product looks nice :D no pain no gain :)

  • if i wanted kould i make it thick enough to make a go kart seat

  • sure, you'd just have to repeat the fiberglass step over and over again :)

  • yea i dont know how strong it would be. its a little more expensive but it eould be strong and lighter to use carbon fiber

  • can u use any fabric to make fiberglass or is there a special type??? Please reply

  • Felt i think?? Otherwise look aound on the internet and it should tell you.

  • If you're talking about the initial shaping of the box (the stretch mat before you resin it) just use speaker cloth, it's light weight, cheap, and easy to work with... If you're talking about FINISHING, you can use anything bro...paint, carpet, leather, velvet, whatever..as long as you can wrap it proper

  • yes...fiberglass...but it in most autostore in either a kit or seperate...personally i wouldnt waste money on a kit and just but the cloth and resin seperate

  • what do you call that sticky material your mixing? whats the name and where can we buy it?

  • bondo and you can buy it at walmart

  • hey where can u get that stretchy fabric to buy!!

  • that stretchy fabric is called a fleece

  • Nice work, how close are vb to specs with this type of designs?

  • where can i buy that stretchy fabric

  • dam change the music that shit socks!!!!!!!!!

  • doesnt the filler crack due to viabrations though? i thought you just sand the fibreglass down to make it smooth

  • the filler has fiber glass in more or less

  • thats awesome .. what song is this

  • The Pixies "were is my mid

  • but what kinds of materials uasano xer make a fiberglass box cualcuno I know what goes on that I do not know which materials are used Grazzie.

  • okay iam new at all making fiberglass boxes n i need sum help.(if any one can help)whats all the materials u need to make my own fiberglass boxes?and were can i get all diz stuff?

  • First, you can learn how to fucking spell.

  • is it normal fabric thats been used at 00.25? thanks for reply's

  • kjjjjjjjj

  • ok i have a question and if anyone can answer please message me thing ring or in this video the wooden square ring that the sub goes to how do you attach that ?

  • its actually MDF which u can buy at home depot or a like store, u attach it using small wooden dowels and nail them to the ring to position it and then to the inside o the box somewhere u cant see to keep it there

  • do u use fiber glass mat at all and if u do does it go on the inside or outside?!?!

  • judging by the materials shown, he uses fiberglass cloth, not mat, and it goes on the outside to reinforce the box

  • lol better than most of unique boxes

  • Comment removed

  • dude wats the fabic material used? thnx

  • it's usually the mexicans who got skills doing this,, but I must admit this brotha got skills too

  • rite tito mexicans can do it all lol lol
