So i have a question about grounding it, I'm going to tap into my 12v outlet in my car so that would be my positive going into the switch, would i take the negative coming from the lights and ground that to the chassis or?
Hey dude, watsup again, i have another question. so im finally setting it up in my truck but just dont understand one thing. i know the positive yellow wire is hooked to the one blade on the right, and the one in the middle is suppose to go to the battery, but how do you do that? do you use your 16 gage wire? and do you hook it up to the positive or negative side of ur battery?
The chassis of your truck is grounded making it (-). So you'd hook up the other side of the potentiometer to the positive side of the battery with something like 16ga wire.
Make sure to wire your potentiometer to your lights first, then the ground to your lights, THEN the positive to the battery. You do NOT want to start an electrical fire in your truck by shorting something out.
Hey I have aquestion my good sir, i see that ther is different potentiometers like audio-taper potentiometers and linear-taper potentiometers, does it matter what you use and if so what knd do you use?
@MrBBOY760 I'm honestly not well versed in potentiometers, I used the Audio taper style because it offered higher ohm resistance in a smaller package with the option to totally cut power to the LEDs. I would imagine both would do the same thing in so far as adding resistance to the line.
It would be awesome if u remade this video showing step by step on how ur hooking everything up in your car cuz im new at this stuff and i get confused :/
@latink88 2 wires were ground wires and the rest were 'hot' or positive. I wired the grounds together and the hots to one side of the potentiometer, the other side of the potentiometer went to the battery, the ground wire(s) got attached to the chassis of the vehicle.
I really need to remake this video with proper audio subbed.
If you want a knob cover for your potentiometer you can get one at any guitar shop, guitars use pots too so If I were you I'd go down to guitarcenter and get a knob, they're only like $1 a piece.
The potentiometer from radioshack came with a knob (I bought a different potentiometer after I realized that one didn't get dark enough for my tastes) so I used a 10K.

@MrBBOY760 I used an audio volume potentiometer with an 'off' setting, that goes from 10k ohms to 100.

@MrBBOY760 Sorry for the confusion, I'll remake the video with a link this week with commentary as a walk through.
