  • The F**kn Planet

  • robert rodriguez: refreshingly frank

  • Quentin definitely gives the best advice. He may sound arrogant, but he's absolutely right. In life confidence will make you or break you.

  • Sam Raimi basically gave us the simplest advice that we are all doing right now. Apart from that great video :D

  • Quentin is actually right even if he is crass, if you have the talent and the ability and you make something good it WILL get noticed so you don't have to worry, and if you have no talent but still have the same passion for it as anyone else then you should be happy either way.

  • Now I have to find MrToiletface's comment...

  • Look at Quentin, sucking his own dick again.

  • Three kings right there

  • who was that first guy?

  • @SamuraiAC That's Sam Raimi...

  • I want someone to edit the title to "Great Filmmakers Advice", because Tarantino doesn't over come the great Raimi and del Toro.

  • Oh really? I thought he was going to say modesty goes a long way lol

  • I liked Tarantino's advice. Fuck what ever others think and just do it. It you're good. People will see.

The guy next to him was a dick though "err...too much competition...don't take my job please".

  • Comment removed

  • why would anyone take advice from this clown all you have to do is suck up to the jews in hollywood (films with jew propoganda) and he gets hollywoods attention

  • Do you believe in Harvey Dent?! .. Anyone? ... Anybody.. Well maybe you do but then again maybe you don't. Either way it doesn't really matter so check out my 5 minute Two-face fan film on my page. It aint half bad.

  • @InuWarrior fuck yourself

  • @hoang26021989 Indeed. Thank you.

  • Whoever doesn't like Tarantino is obviously not part of the badmotherfucker club in which you get a wallet in the mail that says badmotherfucker on it. I've got mine. Who else?

  • THA PLANET ****IN EARTH!

  • Everyone here gives good advice. When it comes down to it, Tarantino is completely right. If you make something that is actually great people will take notice.

  • What about Sam Raimi? You know, Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, Drag Me To Hell, Spiderman 2...how about him?

  • Honest question. Do you think Tarantino is always on coke?

  • @drummermylo Yeaah but he F**KIN ROCKS either way! :)

  • @Gabriel - "Reservoir Dogs"

  • very inspiring !!!

  • Sorry Anybody can tell me what movie is Tarantino refering to whe he says "That was a kick ass movie". English is not my mothertongue and Knoxville accent is not really my thing.

  • @gabrielote0carrizal It was his first movie.

  • What the fuck does Tarantino know? He can't even get laid by a decent woman and resorts to sucking toes...

Dude's a loser no matter how much money he makes. And his films aren't even that good once you grow up or go to film school like me. His movies are for kids.

  • @slangshotstudios While I automatically want to object, I'm thirteen and pulp fiction is my favorite movie of all time. You might be right, but a S&M torture scene and hundreds of f-bombs doesn't seem to fit well with kids. Oh, and stop being pretentious. Just because you went to film school and learned how to feed both the hollywood rape machine and the sundance crowd simultaneously doesn't been you're a better film maker then a fourteen year old with a tripod and flipcam.

  • @slangshotstudios Oh, and he fucked Uma Thurman. I rest my case

  • @rsk8abletv Where in the world did you ever come to that conclusion? She was his muse and respected each other. He wouldn't be able to get into Uma's pants even if he got her super drunk...

  • @slangshotstudios I was kidding. A metaphorical kind of fucking. Not in a negative way. But he was "romantically linked" with Mira Sorvino.

  • Good advice!

  • Quentin is absolutely right. Some people might see it as being vain or arrogant but it's the truth. Yes, there are millions of more indie films out than there were in his day but how many of those films are watchable, let alone actual GOOD films? The vast majority of the no budget films out right now are fucking bullshit. If you make a fantastic film, you will stand out and eventually have success. Period.

  • designer.

  • Love his work. Love his enthusiasm for movies. Seems a bit full of himself though. lol Whether or not people agree on whether or not he actually is an egomaniac, we can all agree that his movies are brilliant.

  • well, he doesn't talk about himself here. i mean he didn't say, that "i'm a briliant filmmaker", or anything. he's just proud of reservoir dogs. rightfully, i might add. this could be also a great advice: love your own work, work hard, but love it.

  • hes not a dick. hes just straight to the point. no bull shit

  • Quentin Tarantino is a great director and his movies are epic and will be remembered for centuries I'm sure. But I have two words ladies and gentlemen Martin Scorsese.

  • @123mainestrt this statement is incoherent and irrelevant

  • I don't even think there is a competition, because REAL talent has none...

If it's good, it's good...and people will notice it. It might be only 10 people at first, but like Ian Malcolm said: Quality finds a way...sorta... XD

  • I love how Tarantino isn't afraid to admit his own genius

  • Robert Rodriguez is a beast!!!!

  • i have the passion .........aiming to be the next Tarantino.:)

  • I love this clip, great work putting it out guys =D

  • Love those guys!

  • What Quentin says at the end is VERY TRUE when you think about it. There are a bunch of wannabe filmmakers doing stuff, but 9 times out of 10, their stuff isn't really that impressive. In order to stand out, you gotta make something amazingly good, and people will notice it. And if you're not good the first time around, try again! Keep working and exposing your hard work ethic to other people, and you will soon have a successful movie.

  • The greatest filmmaking advice ever!

If you're a fan of independent movies then check out this new trailer too:

    youtube.com/watch?v=bvceRTW83CQ

  • 1st step- be born into wealthy jewish family...

  • hes a good director but its strange how shitty his "favorite movies list" is, have you guys seen it? go figure, as long as he makes good movies

  • Quentin is a fucking legend

  • One question. Could or shouuld the great and cool Q. T. make a remake of the Godfather and a movie about Jesus Crist? I am the public, I am doing my askings. I LL Apreciatte comments.

  • No one - and I mean no one - loves Tarantino movies more than Tarantino.

  • @erniehead I can just see him in the theater with popcorn laughing at every joke. "NYHAHAHAHAHA OMG DID YOU GUYS HEAR THAT? Epic."

  • @erniehead

    i do

  • @erniehead I have to agree. His movies are great but if he came out with his first movie today, which sucked as himself admitted, and wrote Reservoir Dogs after, he would not get the money he got to make that film, much less the acting caliber he got at the time. Reservoir Dogs wouldn't be Reservoir Dogs nor would Pulp Fiction and so on. People who are successful tend to think it's all due to their talent, they have a hard time admitting to themselves how much luck has got to do with it.

  • @viniciusb i don't think that he denies that luck part, or anything. but the best advice is really that: make quality. "have luck!" can't be an advice.

  • @erniehead - Couldn't agree more. He's a great filmmaker, but he let's his ego and self-imagry sometimes get the best of him.

  • I hear that, I agree there is alot of people out there doing it and if you can rise to the top with something that's kick-ass, people will notice.

  • Quentin tarantino is a genius "THE PLANET FUCKING EARTH" :)

  • ''Make reservoir dogs, actually I´m not even being a smartass, that was a fucking kick ass movie'' is the best advice i've heard, the mans a genius!

  • Guy 1: I'm broke as shit but i want to do what you do... what do I do?

Sam: My Advice for you is to have money and spend money on things that will not generate any money and spend more money because you can spend money for free now a days.

    Guy 1: oh :(

  • Mr Tarantino - my idol

  • Comment removed

  • Sam Raimi was to direct the World of Warcraft movie but I think hes not anymore

  • I never knew what Robert Rodriguez looked like before. Now I know. <.<

  • @MrToiletface RESERVOIR DOGS, PULP FICTION, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, you sir can eat his shit and wipe his ass when he is done shitting in your mouth.

  • @Rodgers2raw12 and kill bill

  • @Rodgers2raw12 That was perfect. It was made even better when you made fun of his name without acknowledging it.

  • @Rodgers2raw12 I love how you skipped Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, Death Proof, and some might count Natural Born Killers, and True Romance.

  • @Rodgers2raw12

Why do people (like you) ALWAYS ignore Jackey Brown?

  • @MrToiletface Quentin is a genius. Perhaps you're too dumb to realize that?

  • @MrToiletface YOU ARE JUST SOME PUNK BITCH YOUTUBE FAGGOT WHY DONT YOU PUT A LINK UP TO ONE OF YOUR GREAT MOVIES AND THEN I MAYBE YOUR OPINION MIGHT BE VALID BUT UNTIL THAT TIME SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND CHEW ON A HANDFUL OF RUSTY RAZORS HUGS AND KISSES FROM A TARANTINO FAN =D X

  • I can assume right now that years from now, Quentin Tarantino will be looked at as either a god or The God of films. I can't wait for his next film, "Django Unchained"

  • Doug Jone PWNS it

  • I love what Quentin Tarantino said at about 3:06 that the stuff independent filmmakers of today are doing is no competition, and is like "waves on the -bleep-ing beach", as if he were to say "I know, and everyone else knows my films are superior. That's why I am where I am, and they're not. Until they prove themselves, if they ever do, I'll just laugh at them."

That's the kind of brutal honesty that encourages me when studying and working on my own stuff - and gives me hope to improve.

  • 4 great directors giving great advice

  • For once I'd like to hear Quentin Tarantino talk and not have wonder if he's on cocaine or not

  • Hey, L.A. filmmakers, add me as a friend. I think it would be great if we could network with each other.

  • Comment removed

  • quentin....i don't relly care for his filmmaking skills....just my opinion...not hating i just think like his movies are strange and don't seem to really "go"

  • @funnyfilmsman really??? I absolutely love the way he makes his movies they are so in your face and they just attack you.

  • quentin you're a genius!!!

  • Gotta love Quentins response: Uhhhh..... make Resivior Dogs?.....

  • I love Sam. His advice to becoming a filmmaker: become a filmmaker.

  • Yes! I love Quentin, his passion, and his dirty ass mouth.

  • Every time I lose hope I watch this. I love Quentin

  • Tarantino movies are shit!

  • @holicat098 you mean they're THE shit. you are forgiven.

  • @LessThenNone from whom he forgiven me!

  • Shit, it's true about the subtitles though. They boost every foreign movie up to a slightly higher level.

  • i hate the way they *beep* the "fucking" word.

  • lol i cant believe im the only one who realizes this dude is gay

  • Doug Jones holding his ears was priceless. If you ever have the opportunity, go to a con/festival and meet this man. He's the greatest guy ever.

  • Robert Rodriguez is my hero! I've read his book and hopefully will become a director or a writer sometime in the future.

  • Quentin Taran-fucking-tino man.

  • Wow. What a couple of cunts...

  • MOTHERFUCKING QUENTIN WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT

  • This is good advice, all I need is a camera, actors, and I am set.

  • haha I think every direct is different and every style is different. One can't be a director with advice one is a director because it's in you.

  • Waves on the beach. Make the nitro and people will noitce. Love that statement, so true.

  • I love the guys T-Shirt!!! The Evil Dead 2 (L)

  • People like to bag on Quentin but he changed movies. Changed the way chatracters talk and act in films. Revelaed a side of characters not central to the plot , but that gave more depth on the actual characters, enriching the movie as a whole. There were pre-Tarantino movies (B.Q.) and movies that came after his great success (A.Q.)

  • people being a little harsh on Tarantino. Whats wrong with someone being proud of their work, are all true artists suppose to think they are never good enough? The movie is almost 20 years old, let him enjoy it..haha

  • @heartkill3

Pride comes before a fall, or so they say.

Whats off putting about Tarantinos statement is there seems to be a lack of humility. He gets out of it well, I'll give him that.

There's a reason humility is considered a virtue and pride is not. Its that reason that makes you squirm in your seat when he said this (if you squirmed). I know I did.

  • @outofslumber Underestimating one's ability is equally dishonest .. Quentin is right... A good movie GETS ATTENTION bad ones don't.

You can't make a film by second guessing your own ideas every second otherwise nothing gets done. I've seen more than my share of movies where the directors couldn't think passed their own ideas long enough to figure out if the audience would like it.

Quentin knew he had a good film, and he did.. If you want the attention it takes for success make a good film.

  • @MRKetter81

I never said he should or was underestimating his own ability.

    Your getting confused.

I said basically he lacks humility.

I personally think it "was" a good film.

Thats not the point Im making.

IM SAYING I DONT LIKE WATCHING QUENTIN LICKING HIS OWN BALLS!!

    Hope thats clear enough.

  • @outofslumber I didn't take it that he was, even though he has been given to do that sort of thing.

  • Just film something. That's what got me going!

  • I never had much respect for Tarantino until I heard this. Great advice. As a filmmaker myself, I totally took his advice to heart. Awesome vid.

  • Quentin would actually have sex with himself.

  • Tellin' it like it is, even if Quentin is a little self-congratulatory...

  • As much as I'm a massive Quentin fan, I gotta say... That guys so damn stuck up :)

  • Awe inspiring music for film and visual media availabe at my channel.

  • Quentin & Sam Rami great advices...as for Rodriguez, who gives a shit about competition...you have to believe in your self and work...JUST ECHOING Quentin's response...

  • <3

  • ANYONE HERE A DIRECTOR IN THE BUSINESS?

commercials, movies, short films, music videos?

i need to interview 2 directors for a college project but i cant seem to find any

  • great comments from Sam :)

  • What did Guillermo said that was censored, I dind't get it??

  • Hmm Quentin seems to be a typical celebrity type love talking about themselves and love hearing themselves talk a never ending cycle, i have noticed that in every interview he does always praising himself for being "original" but taking someone Else's idea and making it your own is not the same as being original i don't care how witty your dialogue is,Chris Nolan gets a lot of praise to but i think he's over hyped as well by people who don't know that much about cinema as a whole and just movies

  • everybody can make a movie, but that doesnt mean everybody is supposed to make movies..

  • Fucking, fucking fucking, alllllright, fucking, fucking, fucking, allllllright............

  • i actually think its easier to make it today... if ur good, because there's so much crap, that the good stands out more

  • Why are people debating over directors? It's all about opinion and taste.

  • It's amazing how simple it really is when you really break it down. Just make stuff over and over again until it's awesome!

  • Sam Raimi is the whole reason i got into filmmaking....period!

  • movies are so shit these days. no heart and soul no ORIGINALITY

  • Comment removed

  • @mmtna Did you think Reservoir Dogs was original? Art in any form at any particular time in history consists of both good stuff and shit stuff. The shit stuff gets forgotten that's all.

  • Brilliant, uplifting, realistic advice from some of the very best. It doesn't get any better.

  • QT is right. Steve Martin was quoted as saying, "be so good they can't ignore you" and the quote applies to anything in life.

  • I want that t-shirt Quentin is wearing!!!

  • Tarantino is so inspiring

  • @proceedapathy Hell yes he is! I always think that when I watch his interviews!

  • good stuff

  • Awesome advice from some of my favourite directors!

Raimi, Tarantino, Rodriguez, del Toro! It's like the Comic Con panel custom picked these directors to please me! :P

  • waves on the f*cking beach. Wise words, tarantino.

  • Tarinto went fucking off his rocker dude. He damn near shit his pants there.

  • I wanna make a community generated feature film, anyone who wants to be apart of this should check out my channel

  • Tarantino is one modest fella...

  • does anyone else love how tarantino is stroking his arm after he gives his "planet f**king earth" speech? its like he's a villain sitting in a chair and petting a cat! XD

  • sam & del toro: aces, tarantino: arrogant prick

  • @Frye666 Better filmmaker, though.

  • @StygianWhite better my ass. boring conversations and/or perverse torture scenes. yeah, he is great.

  • @Frye666 Just my opinion, but Raimi and del Toro haven't exactly made that many outstanding films either (I didn't care for Spiderman or Pan's Labyrinth at all, to be honest). Tarantino's films have far-superior scripting. If you think his films are boring, there's seriously something wrong.

  • @StygianWhite oh really? what is seriously wrong with me? please, please edify me. I hang on your words.

  • @Frye666 Not that something's wrong with you;I just find it hard to imagine someone finding it boring, hence there being something wrong. If find the development on Tarantino's movies more engaging that that of Raimi's usually non-existant or rushed development, and Benicio del Toro's sometimes generic development.

  • @StygianWhite U arguing like 6 years old. Tarantino is better cos I said so. "Just in my opinion, but Tarantino is indeed boring (I didn't care for Basterds or Kill Bill to be honest) Del Toro's films have far-superior scripting. If you think his films aren't superior, there's seriously seriously something wrong." See? Grow the fuck up.

  • @pickselartz ... wow. That was pathetic.

  • @Frye666 Wait, you think less of Quentin Tarantino because of "boring conversations and/or perverse torture scenes"? And yet you prefer Benicio Del Toro, whose Pan's Labyrinth had a torture scene equally or more perverse than any Tarantino film. Not that I'm complaining, I love Benicio Del Toro, and Sam Raimi. But Tarantino is the best in my opinion. And he's also one of the most talented dialogue writers ever.

  • @TheWhiteStripes3 lol, his name is Guillermo Del Toro my friend. Benicio Del Toro is the actor. Tarantino the most talented dialogue writer ever? have you ever read a David Mamet, a Paddy Chayefsky, a Harold Pinter or even a Woody Allen script? I bet you dont know squat about these guys. I could puke when 20 yrs old call Tarantino the best ..... ever.

  • @Frye666 Haha, my bad. I googled "Del Toro" to find a first name and found the wrong guy. Dumb mistake... Anyway, I guess I should have said Tarantino is one of the most talented CURRENT filmmakers/dialogue writers. I don't have any perspective on those other guys you mentioned because I was born in 1990. I make an effort to watch older films but there is too much new entertainment bombarding my generation from all sides. Perhaps we disagree mainly due to differences in our age and perspective.

  • quentin, let me play in your next film!! :D

  • I'm using Quentin's "THE PLANET FUCKING EARTH" advice in my paper for college

  • who was the guy sat with Quentin?

  • @sarahreded Robert Rodriguez. Director of Sin City and Spy Kids.

  • @pibitopoxi robert rodriguez, known as the one man film crew since he is widely known for directing, shooting, editing, and scoring his own movies. he did el mariachi, desperado, sin city, and planet terror.

  • I heard Sam isn't afraid to get physical with his actors and smack them around. That's when I became a fan.

  • Insightful, they swung for fences and won first prize.

  • Quentin one of the biggest drag queen out there ,Shasa QT LOL

  • 1:35 "hahaha" - take the meds - "hahaha" - lol jk :P

  • You know you've found a man who has a genuine passion for film when he gets that fucking excited about his own movie.

    Bless you Quentin

    RESERVOIR FUCKING DOGS

  • "Make a piece of NITRO that you throw in the audience's lap!" and someone will notice. What great advice! Film school is a big waste of money folks - in most cases. Just make a film - like NITRO. Very inspiring!

  • I would say do what Sam and Quentin said. Make films no matter what and make bad ass films that people can not ignore. I'm in awe of how many people say they want to do something but never do just cause there waiting for the perfect situation.

  • All four had great advice.

QT's: Simple but true. Don't let the thought of competition deter you. You make a good movie, people will know.

Sam Raimi: Classic advice for any person practicing something creative. Practice, practice, practice and once you're done, practice some more.

Guillermo Del Toro's: As a director, you're the creative leader. Listen, but also command.

Rob Rodriguez's: You may need a little spice to make your movie stand out. The artsy folk are suckers for subtitles!

  • When it comes down to it, dynamite sells, and shit just stinks.
