Thanks for all the memories. Sad to see everyone going. End of an era. Didn't even know there was any other music besides Irish until I was about 7.. ha Irish parents, relatives. But the CB &TM were always playing at Christmas
Live this song, still. I spent the first 10 yrs of my life in carrick n returned from Australia after 36 yrs, I walked that long road down from Troopers Lane and walked the old streets, past the Big Lamp, to the castle and the water. This song always evokes memories of "home" and always will.
@togs71 Liam's son Donal Clancy is an Irish folk guitarist. Their nephew (Bobby Clancy's son) Finbarr is a member of the popular Irish group, The High Kings, which sings a lot of Clancy Bros. songs. Finbarr's sister Aoife Clancy is also an Irish folk singer, and of course the Clancy's nephew Robbie O'Connell, who used to sing with The Clancy Brothers, is still singing. And Makem's sons perform too (with the Spain Brothers). So, no, there's no fear that this sort of music will ever die out.
wat do u do when you cant fly over to say goodbye to yer granda ....im in hell, or in other words im not in ireland. God rest yer soul granda...sorry ive no money to get there. ....if i had wings to fly...forgive me
Simply wonderful. I've recently returned from playing in Kilkenny, and it was great to find there's a revival of the Clancy's music going on, led by a fine new group of young fellows called The Kilkenny's,check out ther vid's here on You Tube
This is the first song I ever heard Liam sing.. I fell in love.. the rest is history. Love this man, The Clancy Bros and Tommy Makem. May God bless them.
I live 6 miles from Carrickfergus-I have heard a number of singers including the hothouse flowers singing this. the Clancey Brothers do it justice, God bless them

its not an accordion, its a concertina, often played by sailors to accompany shanties, as it doesnt take up much space

this version sounds like the one that must have inspired Joe Dassin to write his French version...
