  • I got an Ashbury and I have actually mastered the split stroke! Thank you very much

  • Keep it up lad you are an inspiration and a great help.

  • Am I the only one who watched this guy before he was on Frank Skinner's documentary

  • Delightful! Thank you so much. You are a great player and a cracking teacher. I've been struggling with the split stroke but now I get it. Thank you!

  • Thank you so much Peter for giving your time freely to people like me...you are a true inspiration in all aspects of ukulele/banjolele playing...George would have been very proud of you.

  • Ur brill man

  • I am a noob with the ukulele, and I find your tutorials, very helpful. Thanks. I am also gettin a banjo uke next month, soooo, I'll be watchin the banjo uke lessons as well. Thanks peter. Also, you inspired me to learn Mrs. Brown You've got a lovely daughter, and I had a lot of fun with that. Rock on Peter

  • You, sir, are a juggernaut. I received this same banjolele as a gift this Christmas and have been flogging it mercilessly since -- your vids encourage me greatly.

  • brilliantly clear and concise, no showing off for its own sake

    thank you very much

one thing that no you tube lesson has mentioned yet is how these strokes are counted.

    ie split stroke that you did = 3 + 3 + 2 or 123 123 12

all adds up to 8 which fits nicely into 4/4

videos are a great help to see things but its also great to get the beat counts for those out there who'll relate to that

  • they will help me - thanks very much

  • very informative as are all of your lessons tks for posting them

  • You's the best lesson i could hope for. If only I was trying to play ukelele !!

  • xD what a cute benjo. It's funny how you smile while you are playin =D

  • Yeh brilliant the smile is an essential part of the technique

  • hi,i am a failed 5 string banjo player(arthritis)i took up uke and although i have picked up fairly easily your tips on the split stokes,am having difficulty progressing ..to get that formby sound..cheers..

  • Awesome. Got a Uke last week, but its gone out of tune. Taking it the music store tomorrow to see if they can tune it and make it stay in tune lol. Great video!

  • Why not just buy an electronic tuner and tune it yourself?

  • Don't knock yourself, brilliant simple plain instruction that I keep coming back to. I only just started playing a Uke Banjo so it's so useful & fun to follow. Cheers

  • What do I need to look for in a banjo-uke..any suggestions appreciated..thanks!

  • Posted once today, it doesn't show!

I now have all the strokes you have taught, can do them all fairly easily now, but I want to know how to put them together for a solo, say "the window cleaner" solo. How about it Peter?

    Thanks

    Phil

    CB

  • thanks

  • quality mate.

  • brilliant mate, i hope can one day i can get close to formbys class 5+

  • you r gr8 m8 when u coming 2 australia 2 play!!

  • someone, somewhere figured out how to make

a tiny instrument like that sound musical

and they came upon the action of striking the strings as key to making the thing sing.

jumpy rhythmic strokes over whimsical chord progression does the trick.

great instruction vid for said striking action

  • I'm hopefully buying a Uke Banjo, and i shall return to your page when i've got it to learn how to play it :)

  • Do not put yourself down, you are very skilled at de-mystifying things. Keep on posting - I'll keep on watching and learning.

  • Hah! You get the same silly little "Mona Lisa" grin that I do when I play.

Love your passion for the instrument. Don't sell yourself short. This went straight to my favorites.

    Keep on strummin'!

    HH

  • most excellent,i keep returning to this lesson.

  • good lesson mate

  • Great playing! You look like you're having a great time, too! By the way, is that a Gold Tone uke you're playing?

    Thanks!

  • It's very good instruction..Thanx!

  • Hi great vid what strings are you using and what tunning

    Bri

  • I just realised I said Matt's name wrong at the beginning of this video, his name is Matthew J Richards NOT Richardson. I'm sorry about that.

  • Re Quickfire roundup of Formby style: I had seen this but not realised how much it taught in one lesson. It is brilliant, and I have got most of the tricks here that I need for the next couple of months, on which to practice. Excellent stuff Peter. Ignore my vid pleading for just this very item!

    Thanks,

    Phil

  • I like your teaching method. I know you've been "at it" for a short period, but you've done great so far. I'm learning from you. In this demo vid, please tell me the tuning of your banjolele?

    Thanks,

    Phil

  • You're great.

  • Just wanted to say thanks - brilliant vid!

  • Thanks Peter, You do yourself an injustice you may not have been playing a long time but your simple explanation has helped me no end, I've been trying to a long time for just that. Keep it up!!

  • Thanks Peter! Me being a Yank none of this comes naturally. You are a very good teacher, unfortunately I am nearly 52 years old and a poor student. You are an excellent player! I listen to Formby alot and you have it down my friend.

  • Thanks Peter. You've helped me get to the next level. Frustration replaced by advancement! All of us that benefit from guys like you owe a debt of repayment, and I hope someday to make a contribution ( instructional) on youtube.

  • great job of explaining peter, would love to see more, very helpfull indeed.thanks.brian.

  • what is the make of banjo uke you are playing on this Vid, Thank God for U tube and people like you otherwise I would be fumbling around for years, I hope I can play as well as you in a year.

  • The uke is a Gold Tone, I've since sold it on. They are good ukes but there are much better ones around. Play every day and you will easily do it, its about practice and more practice. I'm not that good compared to some players, believe me :)

  • Pretty good vid, Ilearnt a few things from this. It's difficult to believe you've only been playing for a year, tho',...did you play guitar, or something before you played uke?

  • Thanks Larry. Uke is the only instrument I play, I started in April 2006. Two points, firstly I have and do play religiously every day - sometimes for hours at a time. Secondly, it's one thing playing in my bedroom to a webcam - it's entirely another playing to an audience. If you carefully listen to GF and practice daily you'll be surprised what you can learn in a year. Keep strummin.

  • You rock!! More videos of yourself, please!! This was so good, I want to give you money.

  • This vid was really helpful. Thank you so much!

  • i am just starting out after years of trying to learn 5 string banjo,my fingers stopped me.uke learning is much more fun.i have learnt more in one month on uke, than i could of hoped for, many thanks..keith..

  • Wow, thank you.

  • Merci pour cette vidéo très instructive... j'ai maintenant de nouveaux exercices à travailler pour améliorer mon style et essayer de mieux interpréter les solo de Formby que j'aime vraiment beaucoup. Regards from Paris

  • Hey Peter, thanks again for the Formby tips. Please keep posting your uke playing. Thanks, Chris Jones

  • Well done Peter, or is it Pete?

You've done a great job to help us not so good players.

It takes a lot of nerve to do this.

    Keep at it!

Perhaps you could make another Video in a few months, by which time I'm sure you'll be in full flow.

How I wish I'd started years ago when my fingers took notice of my brain!

    Cheers,

    Mike.
