Todd R is great in his own respect. But come on,this is not the CARS. Sure, they have a few original members. The CARS for me was the band from Boston that started back in 76/77,and ended 10 years later. This is a good tribute band,but its NOT THE Cars. If McCartney decided to get 3 other players and sing BEATLE songs,would that be the BEATLES??? I'm glad they are trin to bring this music to a new Generation, but IMO, they shoulda called it something else. RIP Ben.

Hey, Todd was one of the creators of Power Pop, so why not him with the Cars. Sure, the critics hated it, but what the hell. Let the critics make some music and let us tell them them what we think about that. All said, it's great to see Ric Ocasek back in the band and Todd once again doing his own thing.
I remember when "The New Cars" played on this show a few years ago. I watched for about 30 seconds & then changed it. I must have come in late; I thought Todd was Ric. I thought he looked weird (a little scary). I hadn't seen them in 20 years. Anyway, I am glad that Elliot and Greg wanted to keep "The Cars" alive.
Elliot and Greg are NOT just back up players for Ric. Ric should have thought about the other people in this great band. He blew it regarding Ben....Ric isn't my favorite one.
There's a way to do this respectfully, and this isn't it. Todd Rundgren is as, or more, important to the evolution of Rock & Roll as anyone and if they had various artists sing on Orr's songs He should be one of them. Personally, I think it should be left alone, but if they wanted to celebrate the past, a few select performances with Guest vocalists and Ocasek would at least be an homage. This simply doesn't work. I can't imagine a musician of Rundgren's caliber moving forward without Ocasek.
Sorry folks - with the passing of Benjamin Orr...the Cars should have hung up their instruments - Ben Orr was the Cars. Todd Rundgren is a talented guy...but he's no Benjamin Orr. Todd....why not be a "Real Man" and don't try to fill someone else's shoes.

that doesnt look like the original drummer. rundgren did well got the boys out to do what they still do best. ROCK!!!!! the cars first two albums are timeless. their lead guitarist is in a zone of his own, dont know his name but his playing is "magic" the same goes for the whole band that keyboardist is phenominal, the drummer played wasted in germeny in 79 and didnt miss a beat, and orr n ocasek's voices and playing , they were in a class by themselves, the band as a whole is unmatched.

I can't believe the Cars would allow Rundgren in the band, regardless if he knew Ben or not. He makes this former A-List Group sound like a garage band.

The New Cars are no good because they can't make their own music instead of singing the song that The Cars sings. Todd shouldn't sing song that Benjamin Orr sings. Benjamin Orr and Ric Ocasek has a better voice than Todd.

The new cars were okay but.... for those who haven't heard The old, The CARS are writing their first album in 23 years give or take. There is a sample of their song Blue tip on the facebook page.
I saw them live and they were good,despite no Ric or Ben present-it was nice to hear these gems played live again, and even the new songs are pretty good.Now I'm amped up for this reunion,hoping they tour behind it-should they consider adding Todd as a bassist for gigs?
I'm a Huge Cars fan, but this is not the Cars, as much as I would like the band resurrected, this is mediocre at best . My garage band (any many others) DID perform this song better. No disrespect just my opinion. Please don't flame me. It's just not very tight.
Ric didn't want to tour for another reason - he's set for life. The songwriter makes the majority of the income from a song.
Greg and Elliot are working musicians who need to make a living and this was an opportunity for them to do so. Todd brought two of his favorite sidemen to this and they did a great job of bringing this music back. Greg played with Todd on several different tours after this.
By the way, Ben's parts were usually sung by Kasim, who has a tenor voice.

Todd sounds great! He brings his own energy to the music. They should have kept pluggin away, people would have forgotten all about O'cassek, who just didnt want to be there and isnt 1/10 the musician runtgren is. shame.

I met Ben Orr during the Candy-O tour. He was an amazingly nice/ talented man with a beautiful voice. It was crushing when he died. But, I can't think of ANYONE better than Todd and Kasim - to revive the Cars. Face it, we missed that band. As for his voice...Todd has perfect pitch - and once had the most beautiful voice in Rock / Pop. Just be glad that someone with his own fame / career respected the remaining Car's musicians AND Fans enough to allow us to "Let the good times roll (again)"!

You certainly echo the sentiments of a lot of us Cars fans. I truly just think the rest of the band wants to continue just having fun playing great music from time to time, that's the best way they can satisfy their own desires and still compliment their old pal at the same time. The fans understandably play the critic, but it's also best to keep in mind that Rock Stars have feelings too just like everyone else. Orr is more than just a pretty voice and great musician, he's their close friend.
Of course, it's fine to see Eliot and Hawkes still playing, and Rundgren seems to have surprising energy, but... but... nevertheless, it grieves my heart listening to that and understanding that Ben Orr is just irreplacable.
The problem is that it's missing that calming balance of Orr and/or Ocasek to offset the rugged rock intensity. It could be great, with or without the ultra-talented Rundgren, but MUST also have that counter-weight keeping it all together. Otherwise, it lacks depth and dynamic, and, colour.
Only the likes of an Ocasek or Orr can provide that. Or, someone darn near close!
Great Rock & Roll but desperately needs Ocasek & Orr! This reminds me of the Oakland Raiders picking JMRussell with the 1st pick in the draft. Todd is talented and probably a great guy, but he is absolutely not a good fit here. Again, it's like a football team hiring a Coach or acquiring a QB who just doesnt fit the squad and their team style of play. Orr is almost impossible to replace but i do know of one person who comes the absolute closest.

I was afraid this was going to suck, but it rocks! Then I realized -- this is Elliot and Greg, who've performed this song 10,000 times at least -- and they're both great musicians. Plus Rundgren -- come on, how could it be bad? Why shouldn't great songs be covered if they can be played well? Nobody can replace Benjamin, but that's not the point. This honors the original Cars and Ben's memory.
What an honor for the Cars to get to play w/Rundgren. I hear the passion of Cars fans, but the fact is Rundgren is a legend, a wizard, a true star. Just my humble opinion.

Todd's voice is nowhere near as good as Ben's. He is artificially expanding his range to make up for the fact that he doesn't have the depth or feeling that Orr did. Greg Hawkes has never gotten the attention and admiration that he deserved - he is the one playing those fantastic sounds.

It's funny how few people really know what an amazing singer/artist Todd Rundgren is. He's a master of all genres in pop music. I have never seen a singer who could go from hard edged, power blues and heavy metal to make- me-cry ballads, real-deal soul, prog rock and on to Gilbert and Sullivan, all with complete mastery. The man has no equal.

I heard Not Tonight, and he sung that decent, but every song I've heard of him singing classics just made me feel like he had absolutely no feelings for those songs.
Maybe if they had Ric and David, it would be more acceptable. The only one that should be missing is Ben-RIP. Otherwise it is not "The Cars". "The New Cars" do sound okay though.

I saw them live and they were good,despite no Ric or Ben present-it was nice to hear these gems played live again, and even the new songs are pretty good.Now I'm amped up for this reunion,hoping they tour behind it-should they consider adding Todd as a bassist for gigs?

I'm a Huge Cars fan, but this is not the Cars, as much as I would like the band resurrected, this is mediocre at best . My garage band (any many others) DID perform this song better. No disrespect just my opinion. Please don't flame me. It's just not very tight.

Ric didn't want to tour for another reason - he's set for life. The songwriter makes the majority of the income from a song.
Greg and Elliot are working musicians who need to make a living and this was an opportunity for them to do so. Todd brought two of his favorite sidemen to this and they did a great job of bringing this music back. Greg played with Todd on several different tours after this.
By the way, Ben's parts were usually sung by Kasim, who has a tenor voice.

I met Ben Orr during the Candy-O tour. He was an amazingly nice/ talented man with a beautiful voice. It was crushing when he died. But, I can't think of ANYONE better than Todd and Kasim - to revive the Cars. Face it, we missed that band. As for his voice...Todd has perfect pitch - and once had the most beautiful voice in Rock / Pop. Just be glad that someone with his own fame / career respected the remaining Car's musicians AND Fans enough to allow us to "Let the good times roll (again)"!

Sadly, todd doesn't have anywhere near as good a voice as Ben Orr...fact! He doesn't have the same rich timbre or depth to his voice...never mind the vocal range! This is a very poor tribute to Ben Orr..go check out the original and best singing lead on this...then compare it with this dross!!

You certainly echo the sentiments of a lot of us Cars fans. I truly just think the rest of the band wants to continue just having fun playing great music from time to time, that's the best way they can satisfy their own desires and still compliment their old pal at the same time. The fans understandably play the critic, but it's also best to keep in mind that Rock Stars have feelings too just like everyone else. Orr is more than just a pretty voice and great musician, he's their close friend.

Of course, it's fine to see Eliot and Hawkes still playing, and Rundgren seems to have surprising energy, but... but... nevertheless, it grieves my heart listening to that and understanding that Ben Orr is just irreplacable.

The problem is that it's missing that calming balance of Orr and/or Ocasek to offset the rugged rock intensity. It could be great, with or without the ultra-talented Rundgren, but MUST also have that counter-weight keeping it all together. Otherwise, it lacks depth and dynamic, and, colour.
Only the likes of an Ocasek or Orr can provide that. Or, someone darn near close!

Great Rock & Roll but desperately needs Ocasek & Orr! This reminds me of the Oakland Raiders picking JMRussell with the 1st pick in the draft. Todd is talented and probably a great guy, but he is absolutely not a good fit here. Again, it's like a football team hiring a Coach or acquiring a QB who just doesnt fit the squad and their team style of play. Orr is almost impossible to replace but i do know of one person who comes the absolute closest.

I was afraid this was going to suck, but it rocks! Then I realized -- this is Elliot and Greg, who've performed this song 10,000 times at least -- and they're both great musicians. Plus Rundgren -- come on, how could it be bad? Why shouldn't great songs be covered if they can be played well? Nobody can replace Benjamin, but that's not the point. This honors the original Cars and Ben's memory.

Todd's voice is nowhere near as good as Ben's. He is artificially expanding his range to make up for the fact that he doesn't have the depth or feeling that Orr did. Greg Hawkes has never gotten the attention and admiration that he deserved - he is the one playing those fantastic sounds.

I have no idea how anyone can say that this sucks or that Todd sucks. Todd's frickin' awesome. Does anyone even realize that the guy on drums is from the Tubes? The frickin' TUBES people! Todd Rundgren is nailing the notes in this song that Ben sometimes completely missed. Look, Ben Orr can't be replaced but this is a great performance. Also, I'd love to see it on HDTV and not on crappy youtube.

I agree...This new Cars should have never happened... period. Todd's vocals are horrible. Elliott Easton and Greg Hawkes are great musicians, but without Ric and Ben(RIP) it does not work. I wouldn't pay $5 to see this line up. Just my opinion.

It's funny how few people really know what an amazing singer/artist Todd Rundgren is. He's a master of all genres in pop music. I have never seen a singer who could go from hard edged, power blues and heavy metal to make- me-cry ballads, real-deal soul, prog rock and on to Gilbert and Sullivan, all with complete mastery. The man has no equal.

It doesn't matter what he's capable of elsewhere, they need to find a better 'Cars' singer, because this guy obviously can't cut it.

Well, I 'am' a but harsh, but this is one of my favorite songs and I can't help but get the vibe that he just didn't care at all for performing this song.
I heard Not Tonight, and he sung that decent, but every song I've heard of him singing classics just made me feel like he had absolutely no feelings for those songs.
