  • Yes folkes. That was Lisa Stansfield presenting kids show Razzmatazz and I agree with Carrie Grant. Ricky Gervais was sexy as hell back in the 80s. "Bitther Heart" was my all time fave Seona Dancing single.

  • the bit where that black guy starts talking about david brents missed opportunities, the david brent was supposed to be about someone who went in the wrong direction career wise because he didn't make it as a singer, just like that episode where they have that group meeting and he starts playing the guitar. i wonder why ricky never talks about this period of his life, maybe he was just distraught that he got turned down for being made into a superstar, you cant imagine it.

  • AHAHA. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. no, really. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • He was very glamourous!

  • The critics are unnecessarily harsh (come on, critiquing his sexuality?). Had the group continued, they could have made it big. Executive meddling and poor promotion killed Seona - they never had a full album release, and their record company (London Records?) only distributed four tracks on two LP's.

Besides, it's a pretty good song for the time period - and Gervais wrote his own lyrics. That's more than you can say for most pop singers nowadays. Give the guy a break.

  • Gervais being shit is better than his critics at their all time best.

  • LEGEND

  • Why are these guys being so critical and serious?

  • I'm much younger, but I'd marry him. I don't care that he's famous, I don't care if he's wealthy, .. The man knows how to make people laugh, and he has a fantastic voice. His voice is like hot cocoa to me. /rant from someone's sister using brother's youtube account.

  • You know what I find funny, even with all that singing he still had that laugh =)

  • He was actually incredibly pretty.

  • bowie wannabe!

  • Im glad he didnt make it in music, although it was good. Imagine a world were we never got to hear Karl Pilkington!

I have a lot of respect for Gervais.

  • The one and only time he was funny.

  • Am I the only one who thinks he looks better fat?

  • Ricky was gorgeous!! he is so funny which makes him so sexy - but wow I never realized he was so well so..doable. He makes the list.

  • when I first saw ricky g. on the office uk, I swear I had some kind of musical or artistic feeling about him, but I would never thought he actually was in a new wave/new romantic group! Damn, my gut feeling was half correct O.O

  • What show is this from?

  • lyrics man... :P

  • Can you imagine how hard Gervais nails "China Girl" at karaoke?

  • Yeah he's a cross between Julian Clary and David Bowie, I do like Bitter Heart though, u could do alot worse in British 80s pop.

  • Man, Brits are harsh! Ricky Gervais was amazing then and is amazing NOW!

  • hahahahahaha!

  • omg he's friggin good looking back in the days dang

  • his guy is considered to be as about as smug and popular as gary glitter in england at the moment!

  • this guy is considered to be as about as smug and popular as gary glitter in england at the moment!

  • this guy is considerd about as smug and popular as gary glitter in england at the moment!

  • He actually looks like a young Julian Clary in the still photo @ 1:30.

  • bloody flock of seagulls

  • It was new romantic everyone was at it lol.

  • I ♥ RICKY!!!

  • One of the presenters in Razzmattazz is Lisa Stansfield before she became famous.

  • i am actually glad that his band failed because otherwise we would have never heard of Karl Pilkington.

  • who are these cunts talking?

  • I still can't believe it... Ricky back in the day makes Hugh Grant look like a turd. And that's saying something. He wasn't just a ten, he was epically beautiful :'(

  • Omg.. this is really doing my head in. Ricky Gervais (who is inevitably assocated with David Brent) looked... unbelievable back then. No words. Hotter than DiCaprio and Pitt combined. WOW....

  • Wow these guys are nasty. I think the songs were great!

  • Oh my god, this is brilliant. I have a really hard time putting that voice to Ricky, because its so different to how he sings now. I love 80's music and Seona Dancing are actually really good, I LOVE the lyrics and melodies. It pisses me off how multi talented Ricky is xD

Oh, and he was fucking BEAUTIFUL back then [not saying he isn't now ;)]

  • mixing bowie with depeche mode?

not bad. did ricky eat his bandmate?

  • seona dancing = not as bad as this lot of total burks make out really are they, just horribly dated and undermined by the fact that ricky gervais is now a huge comedic success.

  • He looked like Gary Numan's and David Bowie's love child

  • He's smoking hot!!! And he sounds a bit like Bowie - I love it!!

  • derrrr d-de d-der de derrrr d-de d-der de derrrr d-de d-der de derrrr d-de d-der de derrrr d-de d-der de

  • These stupid nobodys on these programmes (shame on you roland rivron), I wish them all a slow death.....

  • Who the fuck are these has-beens? At least Ricky's famous now. Fuck off.

  • gervais was slim and handsomeeeeeee :D

  • I still think Ricky is attractive, there's something about him. I think he comes across as so confident in everything he does and he puts so much into his projects. He's incredibly intelligent and very funny...what's not sexy about that?! He might not be staggeringly handsome but i'd much rather spend time with Ricky than an airhead like Beckham.

  • @jabberwocky88 You are so right! And I don't even think Beckham is hot. You can tell that he's not smart.

  • Lol, wow this is just too funny. I do like his voice/style, interesting. Well better without the make-up.

  • WoW. this feels like the time i (as a 90s kid) discovered how devastatingly cute Jordan Knight from NKOTB used to be in his teens (from first seeing him as an adult).

  • aaaaahh... we was walking SEX! soooo beautiful, he had so much natural grace! im absolutely becharmed by young Ricky, absolutely hooked on the old and chubby one ;) though comedy was the best way he could go, i wish there were more songs and videoclips of seona dancing :(

  • MAYOR WTF!

I can't belive that's him?! =O......gosh, he used to be really......well, thin and goodlooking xD (<3!)

  • ohhh myyyy goddd!!!!!

  • Lots of things went wrong in the eighties. Still if he hadn't failed he wouldn't be the success he is today. Although he didn't have to go gain all that weight just to be funny.

  • i think he could have gone ether way to be honest.

he had a great voice, great presence and style and he writes some good guitar riffs even now.

still, i think going funny, was the best course somehow...

  • He does bear a striking resemblence to his hero, Bowie...

  • I don't see why it didn't work out. They sounded amazing!

  • They didn't have the right producers and managers... promoted in the right direction they could have reached the top ten with at least two of their songs I know !!!

  • He was very very cute!!

  • he was ssooo beautiful! not even handsome, but beautifuuuul! i wonder what was "the reality of everyday life" that made seona dancing's fame crush?

  • OMG! He was sooooo good-looking!!!

  • Wow!! I think i may have a big crush on Ricky now! Not that im ashamed!! I thought he was quite attractive anyway! x

  • im surprised he didnt get famous...his songs are good!

  • whats the song Ricky's singing at the beginning??x

  • "More To Lose" and the second song he's singing is "Bitter Heart".

  • fuck what happened

  • He became talented.

  • I can't believe those three guys in this video had the nerve of talking about Ricky like that. Those hating bastards. At least, Ricky CAN actually sing. Unlike some people who think they can sing but actually sound like complete shit. Even though I liked him sounding very Bowie-esque, he still sounded awesome. He's still cool in my opinion.

  • @IceQueenGX Absolutely; Paul Tonkinson and Roland Rivron slagging someone else off for not making it is the height of irony.

  • @IceQueenGX

Lighten up. Even Gervais is embarrassed by this and never talks about it.

  • @IceQueenGX I was thinking the exact same thing. Who the fuck are these people? Like they can look down on Gervais?

He is an excellent singer, a comedy genius, and a very kind hearted, moral person.

  • what the fuck have all these tossers achieved that gives them the right to slag off ricky???? especially that twat at 2:25...

  • He could, but he is greatly adored even now. Doesn't make much difference in how people look at him.

  • Who should loose some of his weight for his own well-being not for other ppl.

  • I'm sure he banged 100 women back than

  • So good.

  • I am glad he decided to do comedy rather then singing. He is a funny guy.

  • Its name is More To Lose. The guy playing the piano is Bill Macrae(born Bill Moat). Shame really. Its strange, they split up even though they're records were shipped and printed world wide and he'd been on TV, done interviews did alot of advertising but yet gave up. I think there's a different reason why he gave it up.

  • It was shite and you know it

  • Ricky Gervais is awesome!!

    :D

  • oh man what 2 decades can do to a man..he was hot back then!

  • Ricky Gervais' love of Bowie is most clearly proven in his singing voice.

Even the one earring ("Drive In Saturday")! Delightful!

  • and furthermore, none of these lame vh1-style commentators will ever even achieve the success of seona dancing, let alone ricky gervais. plus the song is actually pretty good and as a heterosexual man i have to admit he looked hot as a brooding hipster

  • cut him some slack. that was the fashion then we'll look back 25 years from now at pictures of ourselves and say christ what were we thinking wearing loud patterned hoodies, ginormous sunglasses, and colorful skater shoes

  • seona dancing rocks!!! philippines love them!

  • Gervais is even more talented than I thought; would love to get hold of the lyrics. These commentators are looking for their 5 minutes in the limelight I guess, sad for them...

  • I dont like the commentators, they suck and Ricky rocks!

  • these nobody hack talking head pricks would give both of their lungs to have a career even close to rickys and here they are taking the piss!

  • Ricky was incredibly beautiful as a young man.And the song is good!I love the podcasts with Pilkers but if he lost weight to look like this again he'd be even more awesome.

  • But he's still sexy today. Not only his humor, he's quite good looking. Some people manage to be sexy AND a bit chubby. Look at Meat Loaf (in Rocky Horror Picture Show for instance) or Jack Black. They're a bit chubby, but still sexy and so is Ricky Gervais.

  • LOL - that bored fat kid with his arms crossed. Who would've guessed that Ricky would turn out to be more of a culture icon that Simon Le Bon 20 years later? ;)

  • He looks cute! Go Ricky!

  • these guys are out of date losers lol. Rickys the best

  • These commentators have no life. They are born to blindly taunt people who have ten times their intellgence, humor and money. So shut up you idiotic bastards.

  • Where do they find these moronic pundit fucks?

  • Oh, I love ricky much more now... Grrr...

  • This is unbelievable.

  • I never even had no idea..

  • wow, cant believe it was 20 years ago...

    i♥the80's!!!

  • OMG he should join American Idol and lose the weight, once you ARRIVE it's time to clean it up. He'd be good next to Simon, haha.

  • 50 million Filipinos are usually wrong, especially my 4 exes. But they got it right on this.

  • I don't know about 50 million, but your 4 exes were definitely wrong to date you.

  • Um, who are you? Go to Cambodia and play croquet with land mines if you want to be useful.

  • he looked beautiful back then!!!!!! wow....he cud hav been in Spandau Ballet.

  • you would thinkif they were gonna do a bit about the band and make fun of Ricky they could have at least made sure to pronouce his band name correctly

it was Seona Dancing (pronounced Shawna)

    they keep saying see-o-na

  • this was one of my favourite songs of the 80s and I honestly had no idea that it included Ricky ~Gervais!!!!

  • Living proof that beauty is fleeting.

  • Is it is just me, or do these commentators come across as total douche bags?

Way to go Ricky, you're even cooler than we thought. That's kick ass.

  • Yeah, no kidding. I think they are just jealous that we in America know Ricky Gervais but, none of us know who the hell they are.

  • dude none of them are even big stars in the UK never mind US ! :P

  • YEAH exactly. THOSE Commentators ARE STILL in OBSCURITY.

  • I like his band!

  • Wow, he was gorgeous!

  • I think so too. I would have had a crush on him if I knew who he was back in the day.

  • everybody cringes when they look back at their eighties photos lol

he reminds me of steven kilby from the church in this...

  • i can see the resemblance.

  • The song is awesome!

  • does anyone have the proper video? isntead of the crappy interviews in the middle

  • @nicck There is an uploaded version but its crappy quality and has ITV scrawled across it. This stuff really should just be public domain now its so old. When I get osme money, I'm going to try and buy it off them. Love this performance

  • Bitter Heart was an instant unknown classic!

  • i can relate i used to be thin and attractive and now iam a pig lol

  • nooo! I can't believe this. Unbelievable. Ricky. :)

  • Right there. Looking pretty damn good. There were much worse groups about in the 80's.

He tried living the dream it failed. He tried again years later and he succeeded with aplomb.

  • My God! I had no idea! Why, I might have mistaken him for David Bowie. He's so handsome.

  • Ricky Gervais...Genius.

  • Where do they get some of the pundit fucks on these shows. People you've never heard of taking the piss out of others with considerably more talent than they'll ever have. Seona Dancing sounded good, wish they'd released an album.

  • Seconded. Who is the incredibly irritating know-it-all cockney twat in the orange? And the fat c*ck at the end? Exactly... no-one.

  • just been naughty and downloaded Bitterheart by Seona Dancing from Limewire...... Amazing!

I love Ricky Gervais.....he's a genius..... i actually wish i was him.....Hope he carries on winning awards and doing good tv and film work.... his podcasts are classic too.

  • I thought I was pretty good on '80s music, but I never heard of this - amazing. He wasn't the worst around then, thats for sure, but I'm glad he ended up doing comedy!!

  • actually downloaded his song, bitter heart its the second one you see him singing......its actually quite good, typically 80's I dont know why a lot of people make fun of him for this lol he was actually quite good, again it was typically 80's.....glad he didnt stick with it though.

  • His teeth have always been a bit weird, though....

  • Umm, no....not fake....He WAS actually in "Seona Dancing" around 83 or 84....lol....Well, he showed everybody huh?....

  • Sounds like Morrissey in the Top of the Pops songs, and Bowie in the music video one

  • Jeez! Rowland Revron! What a twat! He has never been funny. How come they always drag him out as a rent-a-gob to do these things? I can't even remember what he's supposed to have done to be a famous "comedian".

  • i love More to Lose even until now...guess im stuck to the 80's :(

  • I love, Ricky is awesome and it's refreshing to know he's had the odd failure...although it's still a video which is more than most tortured musicians will ever achieve. Oh and for the genius who wrote "Ricky Gervais should have stayed thin"....gee, thanks for the insight...

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA he look's like duran duran or something like that

  • I think that Seona dancing actually sound quite good! But I am currently wondering if I will be seeing these critics in 20 years time....

  • its actually pretty good when you compare it with a lot of other songs from the same period.

  • david bowie much?

  • HOLY CRAP I didnt think there was any video of these guys! Awesome!!!!

  • Ricky Gervais should have stayed thin! And one of those songs was pretty good!

  • Stephen Tomkinson looks like he's had a lobotomy, and Bob Mill's "I remember thinking..." yeah right, I bet that was the first time you saw that clip.

Better to try and fail than to not try at all and offer your opinion which no-one cares about on a list show !

  • Who's the spade? Never heard of him...

  • I can't stand those programmes where a bunch of Z-listers sit and make snide comments. Anyway, it was pronounced "Shorna Dancing", not "See-ona Dancing".

  • British people are never as happy as when they put someone down.

  • wow, i can't believe that's him. that's just amazing

  • STILL HOT.

  • hes hot

  • Man, I am a huge office fan and I love Ricky's humor, but that shit was rough. He kinda looked like a really womanly Bono or something. That was creepy for sure.

  • Thank god that failed or else we wouldn't have david brent or and millman xD

  • Awesome! Who would have thought? lol!

  • Pat Benatar is great

  • Ricky Gervais is a comic genius, and this is one of the funniest things he's done! I just sat there open-mouthed at Ricky like that, good-looking(:s), and singing in all seriousness and started cracking up.

    They're not bad actually...

  • Where is that sexy man he is now? I can barely see it in this waify, effete little androgyne. Thank god he got middle-aged!

  • Which list show was this?

  • Looks like a cross between Dr Robert from The Blow Monkeys and the guy from Bauhaus? Couldn't believe that was Ricky Gervais!

  • God I miss the 80's...People then are more peaceful and certainly more stylish than the trash rappers today.

  • yep, seona dancing is quite popular here in the Philippines...too bad they only have one song "More to Lose" which became a hit here. Can someone post the full music video of the song? =)

  • The still picture of him is stunning - he was gorgeous - very David Bowie! I don't remember his band although I guess I would have seen them at the time on the tele. He also managed one of my favourite bands, Suede. Being selfish, I'm glad his pop career didn't work out, because he is a brilliant comedian and we would have been robbed without him.

  • i heard that seona dancing are still massive in the philippines or singapore or somewhere in SE Asia. true?

  • true, tigerboy. "more to lose", the song in the vid with a piano opening, was a massive hit in the philippines in 83-84. like all filipinos, i am more surprised that he eventually became a successful comedian and not the other way around.
