Hi Grahame. can you guide me as to how a poor art student like me can get around with so expensive art supplies. Would appreciate your guidance about what are quality art supplies and yet are also affordable. I mean any brands? or online supply stores?? etc.
@J4archae In the UK, I would recommend SAA or Jacksons, both online. In the USA, maybe Cheap Joes? I would say that the minimum number of colours is 3 - French Ultramarine, Burnt Sienna and a cool yellow such as Aureolin. The cheapest artists quality paint in the UK is around £5.00 per 15 ml. Synthetic brushes are the cheapest option. A size 12 round and a size 4 or 6 rigger should cost about £10-12. Paper is cheaper to buy as sheets rather than pads. Bockingford is a good all-rounder.
@00MORDRED Any reputable manufacturer will be fine as long as they are artists quality. I have used Winsor & Newton, Sennelier, Rembrandt, Schmincke, Holbein and SAA. Colours vary slightly between the brands, but all are good. Smooth paper can be difficult, even for experts. It requires gentle and wet application of the paint and is best suited to busy subjects where there are lots of small areas to paint, such as buildings. For subjects requiring big washes, NOT or Rough surfaces will be better
Hi Thanks for the comment. The palette is hand built by Craig Young in England. They are really good but realllly expensive. Not sure of the contact details, but google Craig Young Palette and that should find him
grahame i would put your website in the description, easier to read and easier to copy & paste. you will probably have more people check it out. great video!
even plolished paper plates are good as well. so you dont need to wash the china plates after using them. :3

you mention student quality and artist quality paints....what would be a good
artist quality paint?? is there a certain brand name?? if so....do tell...
I started out on smooth paper...and it was tough to control and learn how
move the color around...whilst still being creative with my concepts and themes...
i love your vids!! your helping many people, myself included.

Thank you. I plan to produce a few videos covering the basic methods in watercolour. There will be one on painting the sky in a few days.
