This was Judy's song but tonight and today I dedicate it to Miss Whitney Houston, who is now Somewhere Over The Rainbow, will miss you Whitney love and peace.
This proves that Judy had a loving, caring heart. Thanks, Judy, for singing this beautiful song for all those troops during that time period. It must have been very uplifting for all of them.
somewhere over the rainbow, judy garland, there's no place like home... you will be missed...and remembered truely by your dear loving fans who love you so much.
@TheThespianGirl , Your not a loser. I'm 14 as well & i just love old-timey, classical music. It's very beautiful. I feel like not enough people of our modern age really appreciate or see the beauty in the different types of music that our parents, grandparents, and even GREAT-grandparents listened to. I do like modern music but i wish music like this was still just as popular. It's good to meet someone one who seems to share the same interest:)
Garland is great no matter what year, but it wasn't until the '50's and 60's that she really comes into her own as a live performer. Prior to the 50's, Garland was an excellent singer. By the 1950's, life had hot not been kind, and through all the turbulence she became a brilliant interpreter of song. Her voice is in great shape for this performance, but check out the Ford Star Jubilee ('55) video -the performance is visceral, emotionally charged, and gut-wrenchingly brilliant. She is the best.
Of course for me, her original version in the '39 film is THE version, but after that one, I 'd say this one, live, is the next best version from the great Judy G. Just love the way she holds the last note [1:31] Thank you for this clip.
