  • I've been looking for this song since watching this episode over 20 years ago. Thought it was Bootsy Collins' band all along but it was actually Carla Bley's 2 songs. Duh! A Big Thanks for posting it.

  • That's Carla's daughter, Karen Mantler on the organ......

  • Night Music - the very best show in the world! Thanks to YouTube and persons like soulbol we can watch it again! Thank you!!!

  • Sanborn = Suck

  • @tybolini2 Your an idiot. Period. When you produce 24 albums ,win 6 Grammys and play on movie scores then let me know. And by the way, who gave you permission to be a critic?

  • @oneidabow1 John Coltrane is my grandfather

  • Hiram Bullock is like another Jeff Beck.

  • Nothing on television has coveyed the pure joy of music making as vividly as Night Music. The musicians are clearly thrilled by the challenge of melding dispirate styles and genres and their enthusiasm is infectious to anyone with eyes and ears!

  • Hiram was always fantastic on this show, but that guitar he's using stinks! Locking nuts and floating trems completely rob you of tone....

  • cool arrangement with two electric basses! I wonder whos idea that was

  • Watch intro -- the musical one -- ten times... and it stiall sounds amazing.

    ('Night Music ruled -- thx!)

  • Hiram's sense of feeling, tone and clear and open verbality is incredible!!!!!!!!

  • This show was an example of something too good to remain on TV.

  • Divine... Very healing.

  • Would it be possible to upload a version where there isn't a skip (jump) around 3:57-3:58 ?

It's the best part of the song :)

  • Wow I love Swallow's bass never saw one looked like it,

  • @Drblooter99 I think It's just a humbucker near the bridge no biggie

  • how the two Carla Bleys are on hammond and piano simultaneously?

  • that is carla's daughter, karen mantler.

  • NORMA Y MIMI PONS ...FALTA GASALLA Y LISTO

    .GRANDE !!!!!!!!

  • paddlebro is right, a medley of Carla Bley's "Lawns" and "Healing Power" Come on grab the one you love and get some Healing Power...

  • Steve Swallow...wonderful tone. Some people dont like his tone. But I like it. Its like a dub tone like when you run an electric through a low pass filter + boss octaver. Its got a lil fuzz to it but its good for solid low end support. Its nice to have a clip of how the Parker bass sounds as well...

  • The absolute magic of music! Artists from different genres coming together and jamming--this is pure genius. Back in the day before we all were born in the 30's &40's, just imagine--this was the norm in creating good music.

  • steve swallow and bootsy... who'd a thunk it?

  • Can't get past it for a great Jazz ride. Zee Zee Writer

  • That's what I'm talkin' about!

This is about the best thing I've ever seen on 'Tube.

What a treat! 4 bassists! (counting Bootsy :-)

Tom Barney grinning and grooving behind Steve Swallow's lead at ~2:55 is choice! I've never seen a group this big besides a symphony orchestra get so much on the same page and make so much music. Hiram - such a voice, and here a fiery contrast to the Lawns vibe. All this and Bootsy.

See also of course "Carla Bley - Sextet". Thanks for the post!

  • RIP Hiram B...

    Thanks for posting

  • This was one of the greatest music shows ever on television. Hiram RIP, I only just found out from reading it here.

  • This is 'Lawns' not 'Healing Power'

  • ...actually 'Lawns' and Healing Power'...

  • daaaamn! one of the best guitar solo's i've ever heard!!! HIRAM ROCKS!!!

  • Friggin great. I watched this the night it aired. What a blast. I cannot thank you enough for youtubing this most excellent jam session. I read up.. and did not know that Hiram Bullock passed. Is this so?

  • What a great show. I hope this series is re-released on DVD, I'd buy it in a second

  • i loved the show. thank you so much for posting. "lawns" is amazing--and as a part of "healing power" is even better. and the solo by bullock, along w his solo on sting's version of little wing, are two of the finest... btw, has anyone found the program when sting played LW on night music?

  • she looks like a white version of the japenese ghost saddako......freaky....Omar is sick...........

  • Where was the shoe recorded?

  • The hot guitar soloist, Hiram Bullock, departed this realm this year...

  • I was unaware the Hiram Bullock passed. I am so sorry to hear that. He was brilliant.

  • Wow -- thanks for this. I loved this show! I remember watching this at the time. I thought Sanborn's son, Jonathan, is also there, in the turqouise shirt?

  • i videotaped (vhs) this piece back in 1989 or 1990 i think and i truly believe that steve swallows bass solo around 2:20 is one of the most moving ive ever heard....not a lot of notes, but it hits just right....

  • Just thought I'd mention that while this piece is indeed "Healing Power", it starts with an introduction which is another piece by Bley, called "Lawns". It then goes into "Healing Power" around 3:06.
