  • I live in CA, but Michigan will always be home. And Detroit is the heart of Michigan; Detroit defines my past and the auto industry will always be in my blood. Great Seger song, as well.

  • from mi. man i miss vernors lol

  • HOME...Forever........

  • Love the video. Great job! It would be a lot better without that punk Eminem in it though.

  • Im from Detroit I'm 12 and had to move to ohio i love detroit i wish the big teams could donate or something to foundations to help this city and i think mauor bing is right we should condense the city and get rid if the uninhabited ghetto it makes no sense not to

  • Love this video and LOVE DETROIT! Been living in Philly since 1986 ans sure wish I could move back but I can't. Sigh. I do go home as often as possible. There is truly no place like home.

I also just noticed that there are no shots of Greektown or Mexicantown - unless I missed them - and only one picture of "coneys!" Still an amazing video!

  • I have all good memories growing up in Detroit in the 60's and early 70's. Wouldn't trade them for anything.

  • When I get older I'm definently going back to Michigan.

  • I'm so glad I was born in Detroit I wish I could move back there but sadly I live in the most driest and racest state Arizona. I love detroit I really want to go back. Shout out to the D.

  • Tears my heart out every time I watch this..

Americana, in one of its purest forms..

  • Proud to be a native Detroiter and still enjoy the city and surrounding area. Love Michigan too!

  • Hi! Just wanted in introduce our youth journalism program to you! We're based in Detroit and we are all aspiring journalists and entertainers! We you have a chance, please visit our channel, watch our news reports and please subscribe and share with others!

Signing off of the younger side of the news!

  • everybody thinks detroit is the worst city its not the whole state of Montanan is worse. at least we have sports, singers, great lakes and many more.

  • 3:31 is on many many phones

  • Born in Harper Hosp (torn down) and went to many games at Olympia (torn down) and Tiger Stadium (torn down) and shopped at Hudson's downtown (torn down) but really enjoyed this video. The Red Wings have been the only successful part of the Motor City in recent years (plus the Tigers to a small degree) and the backbone auto industry is but a fraction of what it used to be. I "come home" every few years to visit and always enjoy just driving around Detroit's beautifully designed street system.

  • Born & raised in the D! Now in FL, I sincerely hope that this once great city will rebound!

  • well done

  • I'm not from Detroit, but I am moving there next summer. I have ideas, optimism, and my faith in God I am bringing with me. Detroit is a city full of opportunity, you just have to look into the mess and think about what you could do with it. It was great before, and it will be great again.

  • @rocketdogg6 I was born and raised in Detroit. I moved to Florida because I couldn't handle the cold winters anymore. Detroit will always be in my blood. Your ideas, optimism, and faith in God are all you need to take with you. I never needed a gun and never had any trouble I didn't 'get myself ' into. Detroit isn't as bad as people who didn't live there says it is. You can be as safe or in danger anywhere in the world. Yesterday more people died in other cities than those that died in Detroit.

  • i am proud to be born and raised on the west side of detroit!

off 7 mile & Outer Drive on mansfield rd

    Detroit till i die

  • I used to walk to Tiger Stadium to the games. PROUD TO SAY I WAS BORN AND RAISED ON THE SOUTHWEST SIDE OF DETROIT! Clark Park, Vernor Hwy, graduated from Western High School in 1978. No matter were i live Detroit will always be HOME!

  • Awesome job on this video! Flint raised! ;)

  • Tigers stadium......yeah they tore that down so it's gone now. It's unfortunate so much history just gone.

  • i love the D, but it's a rough city! people are tough here, unlike Angelenos or Bostonians, and more so than Chicagoans and New Yorkers, combined.

  • I am in exile in South Flori-duh. Not a day goes by I don't miss Detroit. It's in my DNA. I am so lucky to have grown up there. Whenever asked, I proudly and loudly say I'm from DETROIT. The Lions and the city I love are both coming back! I shall return one day Motor City.

  • Yes! It's all about the D! Only a couple things missing: Barry Sanders and Buddy's Pizza.

  • Beautiful slideshow, Great job! We will rise from the ashes! HOPE springs eternal in Detroit! You better believe it!

  • whats good?!?!? if you want a look at the next generation of music from detroit, mi click on my channel and check out the hottest up and coming hip-hop, r&b and pop artists in tha D ... show some love, we gotta put ourselves back on the map!!!

  • Thumbs Up Detroit Always and Forever!

    Mike & Dani Utley

  • Nice video

  • I <3 Canada

  • made me teary eyed

  • If you're from Detroit you have to like this video, Nice Bob Seger music fits well. if not you will not get this.

  • I love my city....

  • great video!

...from someone who moved to Detroit--and enjoys it....mostly.

  • Detroit. My home, great video. We have fallen so far a lot of people forget what we have brought to the world......

  • @Dupmj23 I have not forgotten what Detroit brought to the world. Detroit is the city that built a nation, and set the wheels of the world rolling. I weep for what it is now, and I hope for better days to come. Be strong, Detroit, and remember the words of Father Gabriel Richard: "We hope for better things. It will rise from the ashes."

  • im not from detroit im from ohio but i love to go up and visit every chance i get

  • Awesome video...great choice of music! Love Bob!

  • born in cali til i was 2, but detroit will always be where im from! GO BIG D!!

  • Lived beside the Detroit Zoo entrance . Exit from Detroit Big Beaver. Grandfather, Detroit's famous bamboo rod builder, buried at White Chapel . Pic of 60's cars coming down Woodward I knew well. Born in Detroit . Grandparents had shop on Grand River . Have photos of dad as boy in 1920s at Boblo. Grandfather's brother co-founded The National Bank of Detroit and was its first vice-president. Detroit is my mother and my father, my sister and my uncle . I love Detroit .

  • I don't remember everything but I remember quite a bit of Detroit way back when.

    I love the video!!

  • Detroit born and raised. This sure brings back some great memories.

  • 0:10 "We hope for better things. It will rise from the ashes." Amen!

  • Be strong, Motor City!

  • Homesick now!

  • Add McGraw Glass....corner of McGraw and Wyoming....now a parking lot.....

  • Detroit...no place in the world like it. Love the Bob Seger song playing with it.

  • Detroit was America. Detroit built America. Detroit will only fall when America falls. The Motor of America is always running - Frank Sinatra - Chicago and New York - he had not the balls to make a song for Detroit - THE REAL WORKING MAN'S TOWN!

  • Detroit never stopped being great, we are on hard times but if you been to the city recently it is turning around quickly. if you want to see it thrive, you have to be a part of that change.

  • I have Detroit in my veins. We are not a spoiled bunch.

  • If you can make it in Detroit you can make it any where. Detroit stand up. home sweet home

  • Nothing is impossible where there is hope and a community of love.

Detroit can rise from its ashes. Good people can do this. We are on our way.

  • Nothing is impossible where there is hope and a community of love.

Detroit can rise from its ashes. Good people can do this.

  • Only one wings slide? Its our best sports team man, give them a little more credit. That was really good though

  • loved you video.

  • Seger is not from Motown, he is actually from Ann Arbor. Point is, doesn't matter where you are from, wherever you are, you're home.

  • Ok Detroit, I've been waiting 40+ years for a comeback. You have my heart; a city like no other. Level the slums and start all over. I'd come back tomorrow!

  • detroit!!!! always and forever

  • hell yeah i .love Detroit. It is a shame that it is in the state that it is in now. I know that the people here will work to bring it back to its former glory. Thanks for the video.

  • How about Detroit's own Rockets? "Going downtown gonna have some fun in the city; gonna drive around town in my beat up Chevy..." (Turn up the Radio)

  • This is Detroit, and this is wat we do.

  • I am very proud to be from Detroit, Michigan. So many good memories.

  • You really had to grow up in Detroit like I did to appreciate this fabulous video. So many good memories I still have and watching this video just brings more smiles to my face. It is a shame to see the decline in population and the economic trouble that Detroit is in, but hey, thats happening all over the country and Detroit is still a great city.

  • It's really sad to see Michigan as hard hit as it is. I was born in Royal Oak and raised in Madison Heights. Every summer I vacationed up in Alpena. I moved to Arkansas almost 3 years ago. I hope to bring my boyfriend up there while there's still things to see. I love Michigan. Always will. I love the Fox, Fisher, and Masonic. Seem so many great productions there. Love the Riverwalk. Forever a U of M and die-hard Red Wings fan.

  • Forgot ICP! :0)

  • The Motor City - a great place to grow up back in the day!

  • Michigan has a rare culture. They have so many items that are made in the state that you can only find in the state

  • I've lived in Detroit for four years. This fall, I'm moving out of the country...I was already wondering if I'll get homesick, but this video definitely confirms that I will. Maybe I'll watch it overseas when I get there. Viva Detroit.

  • @buffuzo

You speak the truth. Sad but true. It's now ran by politiican by politician who doesn't know what to do with Detroit. The residents (those who care) don't either. Great video of what USED to be....

  • At 3:14 is the Mural by Diego Rivera in the DIA (Detroit Institute of Arts). There is another automotive mural in the Detroit Public Library on the west side of Woodward Ave. directly across from the DIA byt another artist named Marvin Beerbohm, a Canadian.

  • At 2:44 - 2:45 is the old GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) Civil War Veterans buildings. The orignal deal was that it would always stay open as long as there was a farmers' market on the 1st floor. However, it eventually became an office building & then closed down. It is & hass been being saved in mothballs now.

  • OMG!! I LOVE MY CITY!! SEARCH CITY OF GOLD BY DRAETOWN!! HE WON A SPIRIT OF DETROIT AWARD THIS YEAR BY DETROIT CITY COUNCIL FOR HIS AMAZING SONG ABOUT DETROIT!! SHARE IT WITH EVERYBODY!!

  • It's been about a year since I have moved away from Michigan. Believe me when I say.....the people who live in Michigan have something truly magical. I can't put my finger on it but treasure the connection you have with others who live in Michigan. You have history, music, sports...and so much more than you'll ever know. I miss the "D" but I'm coming back to visit soon!

  • Detroit...born and raised.

I love EVERY single bit of it!

  • I would have preferred to have a Motown song on for the soundtrack!

  • @miguelwc psssst. Bob Seger is from Dearborn ;)

  • @SuperSportSS psssst Dearborn is part of the Detroit area

  • @OrigNetsa Tell that to miguelwc. I know Dearborn is in Metro Detroit, I live here. Miguel said to use a motown song and i was telling him that seger is from motown.

  • @miguelwc Um, "Till it Shines"? It's a PERFECT song choice.

  • A lifetime of memories in just under 4 minutes! Amazing! I love Detroit with all it's gems and wounds. Still my city!

  • Yes, Detroit can be a crap hole in areas, but for sure it is not a boring city.

  • thanks for this video i love it its everything i know

  • I'm not remembering Barry Sanders in this video. I seen Big Bad Bob Probert but not Stevie Y our Captain. ...Those top 3 most entertaining sports figures in my life so far. God I love my city. A video just cannot include everything!! I'm going to the Wings game at the Joe tomorrow. Yep and I had fun at Autorama a couple weekends back too.

  • Stevie is definitely there...just not enough of him! He's da man!!

  • When I was in the Marines in Vietnam I, too, always proudly said Detroit , when asked where I was from. Even after the riots. Later on, when I decided to settle down I returned, went to Wayne State for Law. Sadly, I now live in Grosse Pointe Shores out in the burbs but it isn't Detroit. There's no way my wife would live in the city even when we looked at Boston-Edison or the Indian Village.

  • name of the song?

  • @UofMgoblue2012 ~~ Til it Shines

  • Detroit is beautiful.

  • Al Kaline is the man!! Or as we used to call him alkaline. I still carry his baseball card in my wallet. Loved the video!

  • I lived there for 4 years in the early 90's and found Detroit a fascinating city. I definitely loved my time there.

  • listen, i'm from Detroit. Church Street in Corktown. and let me tell you, i've been to 47 states, and yes, there are better cities. but by far, Detroit is not the worst, and is my favorite. it is not the most dangerous city, in fact, Downtown is 66% more safe than the national average. of course there are bad spots, spots people want to avoid, but if you saw how this city was in the 80's and 90's, modern day seems like heaven. the only way to know about Detroit is by living here. leave us alone.

  • I never been to Rock City, but it still is one of the great cities of this world, I just would like to be there when it returns, reborn from its ashes, like a phoenix, to show all its glory. I just know it will happen.

  • very cool, I was just in my hometown Detroit and was pleased to see the Motown Museum and the wonderful enthusiasm of the workers...will be back someday

  • Great Video!

Even I moved away some 30 years ago, I always PROUDLY say "DETROIT" when ask were am I from. I am always thrilled when I get the chance to go home and visit "downtown" and this video brings back memories and relives the greatness of the Motor City!

From far away in Phuket Thailand, but still with my hometown DETROIT in my heart and sprit,

    Brad Kenny

  • @crlshaddad1 That's the Joe Louis Memorial that hangs in downtown. Nobody better than the Brown Bomber.

  • This is so Awesome Love the memories!

  • Great. I love Detroit!

  • It is nice to see some good things, that brought me some good memories. One is the photo of Cass Tech High school, my alma mater. It was once rated #3 in academics in the nation! It will come back. It can only go so low, and I think the bottom has already been hit.

Come on Detroiters, get that beautiful city back to the gem it once was, for your children, and their children.

  • Nice, very nice.

  • I LOVE DETROIT!

  • This is the Motor City... And This..... Is What we do! lol

  • Great video..love it!!

  • Like how you slipped Kill-patricks mugs shot in there

  • finnaly a faygo bilboard yay for the home of faygo btw im in new mexico so faygo is importent to me so yay

  • Very inspirational. Maybe a future edition could include Mary Chase Perry Stratton, founder of Pewabic Pottery. Historical installations of her decorative tiles can be found among many stately buildings and homes in Detroit and modern inspirations at places like Comerica Park. She inspired many with her elegant hand-crafted designs.

  • Well there you go... all the wonderful men that built Detroit. But .... I did see one female in the video. She was eating a hotdog and I am not sure she was real. Sarcasm.

  • Makes me want to visit my beleaguered hometown. xo

  • A prayer for this once great city, stop the killing and start the living again people!

  • I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE MY CITY!

  • ahhhh yes this is OUR town...WE have a job to do...lets do it!

  • If heaven ain't alot like Detroit I Don't wanna go (uncle Kracker) Kid & Em also beleave it too. D STRONG FOREVER !

  • we love Detroit !! and always will! Greetings from Istanbul

  • This made me almost cry....ahhhh HOME!!!!!

  • Very emotional to watch...Still 'lots to do and see here"...Every "major city" has its "rough side"...Including New York, and Chicago...

  • Love and miss my city!

  • Detroit is awesome. i live there and i dont wanna get out.

  • its nice to see the pics of what detroit use to be before the coleman young era. why not show some pics of what the outskirts of what the city really looks like and see if you would like to take a walk down the neighborhood streets like you did in the 50s and 60s. nice to see what detroit use to look like. nice to see the current city shots supported by the majority of suburban people who spend there money to go to a game or theater event. a good video.

  • nice, very nice

  • This might be the best YOuTube video I've ever seen. It made me proud of my city.

  • Awesome!!!!!!!!

  • Great video. Great memories. VERY well done - thanks for the memories!! Detroit (which includes numerous suburbs) has a LOT to offer despite all its challenges. Go Bing, Snyder and Michigan!!!

  • BOBLO ISLAND! I miss that place!

  • Comment removed

  • I am proud to say I am from Detroit, I have no fears going downtown. Like all big cities there are bad areas but you dont hang out there, but there is more good than bad

  • Love the Kwame mug shot.....

  • I love our city for it's future possibilities too!

  • Absolutely loved it!!!!

  • EXCELLENT video & put together so well!

  • Great video....I LOVED boblo island!!! I wish it was still around to take my kids to...

  • @AvonBBALL

Can't believe I grew up in Detroit and yet never went to Boblo! Did go on a few midnight cruises on the Boblo Boat though!

  • We have lots to be proud of. Lets keep our heads up high, every great city has challenges.

  • Well done, Thank you so much! Its nice to see and remember the good times in Motown! Bob Seger Liked it enough to post it on Facebook, That says allot!

  • Best Detroit Video Ever!!!

  • I never paid attention to the exit number before LOL... beautifully done with a lot of great memories :-)

  • This brings tears to my eyes, just love it. Hope for Detroit and fondness for the memories, thankyou!

  • I remember Boblo, the 1968, and 85 Tigers World Series victories, Bob Seger concerts, and so many things about Detroit. My first concert was an Alice Cooper concert when I was in my teens. And Motown was still in Detroit when I was at Cass Tech High School. Good old Detroit, before the Republicans murdered it...

  • Very cool.

  • I was raised in the Detroit metro area. I am sure there are still some things positive to be found there, but they are probably few and far between. The urban blight, unemployment rate and crime rate make it one of the most undesirable places to live in the nation. The burbs are still okay, but even there you can see the effects of years of economical decline. My son still has his T-shirt that says "I'm so bad I vacation in Detroit". Not a good ad for the city.

  • Being from Detroit (7 mile & Gratiot) I understand It's not where you come from it's where you're going but never forgetting the roots. If it wasn't for the streets of Detroit I wouldn't be the Air Force NCO that I am today.

  • Amen to that!!

    Nice little video collection!

  • Every time I see my birth city, for better or worse, it brings a tear to my eye. I love my city, the history, the neighborhoods that not everyone can walk down, the people that not everyone can be. Our music, sports, talent, atmosphere...cannot be replaced or duplicated. Talk bad about it if you choose, true Detroiters don't give a damn about what you have to say...we will always love the Motor City...if it is a majestic paradise or a burned down husk...it is Detroit, and The heart of Detroit w

  • @motleyjl

    DITTO...WELL SAID!!

  • Iheard that some grouyp in Detroit is taking vacent lots and putting in urban farms. Saw photos on Huffpost. Go Detroit!

  • This is great!

  • This video is so cool it brings a smile then a than a teer all in one breath. Detroit and Marko we are one of a kind. Detroit as we know it is the greatest city in the world, maybe not as you know it but hey we all have our opinions.

  • This video is so cool it brings a smile then a than a teer all in one breath. Detroit and Marko we are one of a kind.

  • I loved this so much. I have lived and then later taught in Detroit until my retirement. I still love even though I have moved on to my new adventure in live outside Michigan.

  • @Darbrat669 Those "outer-skirts" are the actual neighborhoods, which have been ignored in favor of downtown development for far too long. Personally I don't hold out much hope, but Mayor Bing's realignment of those neighborhoods may actually do the trick this time. If the residents paranoia doesn't get in the way. Neighborhoods are the soul of the city.

dlandlord1 - Saying Detroit is the best city in the US is a joke, right? Either that or you're buying in to the public service announcements.

  • @MJRicherz to "dlandlord1" It's a Detroit thing. If you weren't born or grew up there it's easy to knock Detroit. But as a native Detroiter allow me to tell you where you can stick your negative attitude toward my home town. Here's a hint, the sun don't shine there.

  • @crstewart1951 - Um... I was born in St. Johns, grandparents lived on Goulburn, and I attended WSU and CCS. I also attended the dedication of the RenCen by Coleman, and have heard all the positive stuff for decades now, while the city continues to decline. So, don't give me the "as a native Detroiter" crap. You might consider the idea of "naive Detroiter" though. You still have your "Detroit - Where the weak are killed and eaten" t-shirt? That probably doesn't go over so well anymore.

  • @MJRicherz did you or did you not make this comment? Was it part of what YOU were saying or a reply to a poster named dlandlord1?

"dlandlord1 - Saying Detroit is the best city in the US is a joke, right? Either that or you're buying in to the public service announcements."

This is what I was replying to. MJRicherz. Further, I don't give a rats rear end if you attended the dedication of the RenCen by Coleman Young. He was the most corrupt person ever to hold the office of Mayor of Detroit,

  • @crstewart1951 -Yes, I originally said "Saying Detroit - yada yada -public service announcements." It was a reply to dlandlord1, so you were replying to me.

My point in mentioning Coleman was that his siege mentality is still alive and well, and one of the things that Bing is going to have to overcome in revitalizing Detroit. Detroit needs burbs, and visa versa. I AGREE with your assessment of the former mayor... whether you give a rat's rear or not.

  • @MJRicherz Ok then, we have no disagreement since my reply was meant for dlandlord1, not you. I do not like seeing people knocking Detroit. Pointing out it's faults is one thing, but just saying that the city sucks, or burn it down and be done with it, or things like that piss me off.

I see a day when Detroit WILL rebound and the people will stop fleeing and start returning. It may take a long time, but it will happen.

  • @crstewart1951 Then we agree completely. Cool.

  • Hi Handidude, I disagree. We should encourage people to bad mouth Detroit. It is the best city in the United States and if people find out how good it is, Real Estate, gasoline and food prices will shoot thru the roof, just like L.A., Frisco, Vancouver, and Palm Beach. We need to work together to keep the slander going.

  • I agree with twelvethree. One thing to add is that downtown Detroit is coming back, there are so many great restaurants, jazz clubs and plently of outdoor concerts during the summer, many trees have been planted & its looking more like Chicago. Personally I think the reason Detroit has a bad rep is because of the outer-skirts of Detroit, not the downtown area.

  • @Darbrat669 OH GAWD, how can you insult the Motor City by saying it's like SHITcago. There's NO comparison, Detroit will always be better.

  • So lucky to grow up in the city in the 50s and 60s. You have no idea how great a city this was. Not sure it can be as great again, but Dave Bing is trying.

  • @keboudreau1 Yes, he is. The one big thing that would help him improve Detroit is if he fired the City Council because for as long as I can remember they've been the most corrupt, anti-Detroit group of people in the state of Michigan.

Hell, they even ALMOST beat Coleman Young and Kwame Kilpatrick at being corrupt, and that's NOT an easy thing to do.
