Excuse me Subeefan but can you explain why you think anyone would put the time and effort into swapping out a subaru engine, FROM A SUBARU mind you, that can be easily made to make much more reliable power, to a gay fuckin Honda.
your right about him not NEEDING to use the clutch, but he is clearly flat foot shifting it here. Which Tarzan does alot. Just watch vids of him in the cyber evo.
on the upshifts you can see him dabbing clutch maybe he has a flat shift system and needs a switch to trigger this so it maybe on the clutch pedal somewhere.
on a dogbox transmission (straight cut gears with dog engagement) you DO NOT have to use the clutch on upshifts, just lift the throttle slightly, SLAM it into gear, and accelerate again.
and to the guy saying that dogboxes have syncros... you dont know what you're talking about, they DO NOT have syncros (hence DOG engagement)
i love straight cut gears.. sounds like youre driving in reverse the whole time.
That is a dogbox with straight cut theeth. The type of the engagement has nothing to do with the teeth. But on dog engagement transmissions you dont need to use the clutch.
also he is using the clutch on the down shifts as well, there are still synchros in there and the only reason people change to straight cut is for adding more power the helical cut gears wont handle.
This is an amazing time attack car. Turbo Mag already has it covered in this months issue. Goes to show you don't need a lot of horsepower and a sequential transmission to compete. However this car has been through the wind tunnel so it should be quite efficient aerodynamically.
You're right about not needing crazy horsepower or a sequential to compete, but it DOES have tens of hours in a wind tunnel, and a completely custom handmade suspension with hours of suspension tuning that i'm sure cost alot more than a sequential. For their competition, they realized that they'll get higher returns investing in susp. rather than more power or a trick tranny.
Suspension I believe is off the self components. Because this car's main goal is to showcase Cusco's product line. Though it is completely reworked geometry.
is it the sparco 383 steering wheel..?

Straight cut teeth = Noise
Helical teeth = Quiet
Syncro engagement = smooth clutch shifts
Dog engagement = fast clutchless shifts

So...a dogbox IS a dog engagement?

Question if this is a helical gearbox why is he using the clutch on the up-shift
MK4bora28l 3 years ago
Um... what?
stageinfinity 3 years ago
its just straight cut gears, thats what you are hearing, it is not a sequential gearbox. Just straight cut gears thats all.
2slovak0 3 years ago 8
sorry i meant to say straight cut gears, but still dose not answer the question about using the clutch
MK4bora28l 3 years ago
you still need to use the clutch, its not a sequential gear box. Its the same as a NASCAR trans, straight cut gears, clutch.

FYI
Their tranny blew at the Nov 12 Super Lap Battle, but they had luckily gotten in enough laps by then to beat all the competition by a few seconds.
