We women should vow to stop this downward modern trend, learn how to be women again, learn how to be feminine, and respect ourselves enough to look the part just as these ladies did back then. What inspiration they are! It'll take work but it'll be worth it and we'll be remembered as ladies.
Ah how I wish dresses and skirts were at least considered in fashion...Nowadays, if I try to wear a simple sailor dress, people will freak out. (What the hell are you wearing?) The only acceptable thing is mini-skirts...Hardly 'cute'. Excellent video. :)
I don't think these styles have "vanished forever". They are, however, scarce! I actually believe they are timeless and will always be in vogue. Nowadays you have to have a little courage to dress like this, but I tell you what, it's worth the feeling of confidence and grace :)
@ladylabret It really irritates me that when I dress up for work in a dress/.nylons, nice makeup and cologne, the younger women tell me that I'm acting like a drag queen! I just don't understand how some of these young women can come to work in jeans and t-shirts and tenni shoes! Darn that feminist movement! It was great for equality, but why did it have to strip us of our femininity?!
Such femininity... gone, lost, vanished to an ugly, crossover, tomboyish world. The 50s was an even better decade for fashion and grace and I'm not even that old to appreciate. Thanks a million for reminding what the definition of true femininity was. Oh to be a sissy back then, one can only dream.
Such repression...gone vanished for ever...although I do understand what you are saying, this is just a glossy image of a horrible time for women who were to be seen but not heard. It is easy to romanticise from such a distance...and if any woman complained then they were given prozac to shut her up
however, surprisingly women were much more happier during those times. I was listening to the radio and a stastic came out that said, the more a woman becomes career orientated and wears the pants of the family, the less happy and satisfied she is with her life. A woman is best when she raises her family and is graceful and feminem.
@louiseb35 Well, I'm not Zavelena, but probably because of people like YOU who expect woman to look and act a certain way, and not getting to do all of the things men got to do.
@GingerGilligan People like me? I'd like to know where the feminist movement is on Muslim women who are treated like dogs, forced under burkas, forced into marriage, caned, stoned or beheaded for resisting. You'd think the leaders of the movement would take a stand & object to the REAL crimes against women. Well I object to it, but feminists DON'T. In fact their silence is creepy. MY expectations & those of people like me couldn't possibly interfere one iota with any woman or her choices.
@GingerGilligan What matters to me are God's expectations. And by God I mean the father of our Lord Jesus. People can believe whatever they want, I believe that women were created by God to be different from men, BY DESIGN. Feminism obscenely twists God's intentions for women to mean something else. It's a con job, and that campaign of deception is rooted in evil. Womanhood is divine & if women don't want to embrace it and enjoy it and choose to look the part, they're cheating themselves.
@louiseb35 God "expects" women to wear high heels? Wow what an efficient savior, even in the midst of controlling the tides and causing the sun to rise each morning He still finds time to give fashion advice.
@HotButterOnToast The good news is there are many of us ladies who now reject the irrefutable negative influence of feminism. We get it now. We've seen the destruction & what it's done to women and our spirits and self esteem. What it's done to men and how they see themselves and us. And especially what it's done to our families. You believe what you want, and I will believe in God and will embrace Biblical femininity which you've reduced to fashion and high heels. You have a lot to learn.
@louiseb35 "We women should vow to stop this downward modern trend, learn how to be women again, learn how to be feminine, and respect ourselves enough to look the part just as these ladies did back then. "
You are the one who reduced femininity to clothes. I haven't actually heard you give any other critera for your "Biblical femininity."
@HotButterOnToast I said I believed in women learning how to be women again, learning how to be feminine, and respecting ourselves enough to look the part also. In no way did I "reduce femininity to clothes". The starting place for understanding Biblical femininity is from the Word of God. One thing you casually call "criteria" would first be making God central. If not then other things always fill in and so becomes what defines what's important or significant in a woman's life.
Respond to this video... Do you realize how incredibly subjective "looking like a woman" is? The square shoulders, masculine tailoring and relatively short haircuts of the 1940s would have been considered masculine in the 1840s. There is no absolute way to look like a woman, it changes constantly.
@HotButterOnToast Elements of new fashion can usually be adopted while keeping feminine & modest. These ladies are still in curls, flowers, puffy sleeves, flowing fabrics, but with streamline & tailored cut than the 1840s. And that's a 100 years span, not bad. Just 20 or so years later the impact is evident. Showing a marked degradation that spread to every facet of her life. Clothing is an outward sign of what's going on inside and the fact she changed, and I would argue not in a good way.
Respond to this video... I too admire the fashion of the 40s, but I'm not willing to trade two generations of legal advances to make them popular again! No one is saying you can't wear 40s fashion today, you can even wear it to your job outside of the home... that you have big evil feminism to thank for.
@HotButterOnToast Striving for femininity in every part of our lives is how God wants us to live but considering your view of God to begin with then no, you can learn about God's plan for yourself if indeed you have an honest curiosity. I so admire the 40's fashions, like I said I believe clothing and appearance are outward signs of what's going on inside. I see curls and flowers and fabrics and good grooming and real care, that's not only distinctly feminine, but brings out the best in us.

A very close reproduction of the first dress, the red floral one, was sold in Primark (UK) a few years ago. So similar, uncanny!
