  • They pass in the very first round of the very first episode when they had the top answer worth 74 out of a hundred???... idiots!

  • The 1st George that came up on my mind was "George Lopez!! " ^_^

  • Funny how Richard comments on how beautiful the wife and daughter are but didn't compliment the cousin's looks. Bet that made her feel special. lol

  • All the questions on the steve harvey version are retarded

  • Nobody said George Mason?

  • Steve Harvey is more entertaining :D

  • chair

  • Only good now caus of steve harvey

  • he's hooooooot!

  • The BEST game show host ever!! Thanks for the memories Richard:)

  • He's Flirting With EVERYBODY!!!! :)

  • i think i remember bruce from an episode of match game, he looks the same

  • George Bush! George Clooney!

    Oh. Wait. Nevermind.

  • @Flopryn hahaha i was thinking the same thing! and then i was like, oh. wait. they're not famous yet...

  • Happy 35th birthday Feud :)

  • @SierraStrawberry51 It was 200 up until 1979, when they increased the goal to 300. In the last season of the original run from 1984-1985, the goal was 400.

  • They pass so much, and now , people hardly ever pass at all.

Whenever I see a family pass, it always seem to work in their benefit..

  • Im seeing classic for first time and it's amazing comparing to our country's copied show.. =/

  • watch?v=TZDL59lr1PY

i like the family guy family feud ^_^

  • /watch?v=TZDL59lr1PY

    dude is creepy as hell.

  • I didn't realise this show's been around such a long time...

  • i love how he had to explain how to play the game/

  • I LOVE RICHARD DAWSON!!!! IV SEEN EVERY EPISODE OF HOGAN HEROS NOW I'M GOING THROUGH THE OLD FAMILY FEUDS

  • @TarenTV That's exactly what I've been doing too!! First I fell in love with Newkirk and now I'm in love with Richard Dawson <3

  • WHAT REALLY?!! i didnt know this show was this Old O_O WOW!

  • I'm surpised that George Harrison did'it make the list on name a famous George he was a big back in the 70's with his solo carrer & back in the 60's with the Beatles

  • @resdsox1 I was surprised too. The Quiet One composed some outstanding compositions.

Frank Sinatra once stated that SOMETHING was his favorite Lennon & McCartney composition.

Sir Paul McCartney replied: "THANKS FRANK............."

  • Steve Harvey Is the new Richard Dawson!! I will miss Dawson

  • is he dead?

  • @regressing2apes

    Richard Dawson? No.

  • @regressing2apes No your thinking of Ray Combs that died

  • @regressing2apes NO. Richard is alive and well at age 78.

  • George Bush

  • It's too bad that only the all star shows are on disc. The SHOUT Factory or Mill Creek should pick up where BCI left off. Those of us who are huge classic game show lovers need these shows in our collections(I'm losing my classics from my collection due to recordable quality). Too bad Richard Dawson doesn't want anything to do with this show anymore.

  • @269848 Why do you think Richard doesn't want anything to do with Feud anymore. While I don't think he would ever want to host it again at his age he still cares very much about the show. I saw a recent interview with him on the Hogan's Heroes set and he definitely spoke about how much Feud (along with Hogan's Heroes and Match Game meant to him). He has really mellowed out over the years.

  • @Kinoakim Well, I had read that he somehow he didn't want anything to do with it anymore,I could be wrong.

  • @269848 I can assure you he doesn't feel this way. Dawson is retired and doesn't make many public appearance anymore but in 2009 he took the time to tape a video tribute to Mark Goodson at the GSN awards and as I said before he did a very recent interview on the Hogan's Heroes set where he said how much Family Feud meant to him.

  • @Kinoakim Okay, now I understand. Hopefully he's doing well.

  • @Kinoakim Contestant Said Duck in an episode and he was like rofl

  • that intro of families was way too long.the first episode sucked just like every other shows lol

  • これが100聞きの本家か…

  • That studio looks so orange.

  • hes so good looking.

  • I remember, I used to watch this, when it was in syndication. I was born in 1977, and Richard Dawson, is an awesome emcee in my book

  • Gene Woods made it all flow.

  • 1976 lol

  • In normal speed, Gene sounded exactly like Harrison.

  • George Harrison wasn't up there?

  • Happy Birthday, Feud!

  • back then only white ppl where aloud to be on there

  • Ray Combs is such a creeeeep!

  • @wfbeast33 DO NOT CALL RAY COMBS A CREEP!!

  • @wfbeast33 my favorite host

  • They play the music at the original speed... shocking for GSN

  • @talladegajunkie1439 I was wondering why the music sounded out of tune compared to today. You mean that today GSN plays the music at a different speed?

  • i find the fiddle part of this family feud theme very funny!

  • Wow, did the Beatles legacy develop at this time or what

  • speak about technology development !!

  • This is so weird that every round of the first episode say "pass"

  • My Favorite Family Feud Host was Ray Combs.

  • I was waiting for them to say George Harrison. :(

  • Even though this was made in 1976, $5,000 as the top prize was considered a lot of money for a game show in those days, right?

  • No George Harrison?!

  • haha so high tech :D

  • Wouldn't George Michael b there?

  • @aejackson01 Not in 1976. George Michael was 13 years old in 1976.

  • 2.33 OMG! I thought that chris person was a women!

  • I love family fued

  • @emmalbbean So do I

  • @emmalbbean I love Family Feud.

  • 5000 year old family feud lol

  • He has such a soothing voice!

  • iS IT ME, OR IS THE THEME A LITTLE LOWER THEN LATER SHOWS?

  • Yeah, it's a tad slower.

  • 1976 is also the year that Videofashion Premiered.

  • I noticed something at the beginning they didn't add the strike indicators, who was keeping track of the strikes?

  • I loved how Richard explained the Rules of the Feud.

  • wait, the winning score=200???

  • It was just 200 in the first year, then they upped it to 300 the following season. BTW the 1985 season (the final Dawson year) upped it again to 400!

  • If this were a Family Feud question today, Dubya Bush would undoubtedly have taken the number one spot, leaving Washington perhaps at number 2! I'd think Burns would still make the list, but Clooney, and Costanza would have likely made it today IMO!

  • yeah i like this slow moving pace better. too many stupid commercials on tv now

  • the host talks so uch they didnt have too many comercials back then

  • What is the strategy behind passing a question?

  • its hopint the other family can not answer the question either, there by giving you the points.

  • More along the lines that only the other family doesn't know, because you'd still have to steal. If you think both families don't know it, you want to play the category. And on the "final" question, NEVER pass. The pass wasn't always a good thing, so that's why they got rid of it with Ray Combs.

  • hahha 2:26 "im a cookie monster!" woo

  • I wish Dawson could host today's Feud.

  • I wish that dawson could host this feud because I like richarddawson

  • I agree. But John's filling Richard's shoes better than even Ray, who was a great host himself.

  • These guys are so 1970s, love it

  • lol...amazing concept, a show from 1976 and the people are 1970's...hmmmm

  • The new version of Family Feud will never be as good as the classic. If only the new one had Richard Dawson as the host.

  • the start of a game show that has lasted nearly 30 years. of course this episode is hyped up...you got to sell the game.

  • Gene Wood sounded very energetic on this episode as opposed to the next few years, when he started to sound like he didn't even care.

  • "Married?"

    "'Fraid so, old chap."

"I don't think I can go on with this war."

  • They obviously didn't get the game. They should of played it...its probably easy to name a few of them...and leave the other family maybe 1 or 2, which at that point it would be difficult to steal.

  • Passing was a lot more popular at the beginning of the show. Not many people do it now...

  • True, but putting that aside, if that was the norm back then, I still personally think it was a stupid move in this particular case. This was the first episode though, I guess over time people figured out the passing strategy is generally an ill-advised one.

  • love that opening fiddle!

  • He's so cute about it though... ;-)

btw... I'm surprised George Harrison didn't make the survey.

  • Well Actually It was Richard Dawson's Humor, It is kind of weird in way when you watch him on the Family Feud episode of "Mama's Family" The Gloves gove of

But Don't get me wrong Dawson is a good host

  • What a womanizer!

  • Is this really the VERY FIRST Family Feud to ever air?

  • yes it is.

  • This premiered July 12, 1976.

  • i wish i had a time machine what a great year

  • Richard, didn't kiss the ladies in this first season. I believe the third one, he started doing it.

  • I seen this the day it premiered

  • Wow its hard to believe this premiered a few months after I was born! How time flies!

Still love to watch this on GSN!

  • How about 10 days for me:))) I was only 10 days old when this show started:)))

  • Moseley is quite an infamous name in some places... doubt this family is related, though.

  • It's quite famous among Narnia fans. But since the only British person on this show is the host, I doubt any of them are related to William.

  • Well, he hadn't even been born yet at this time! I was referring to some other Moseleys, though...

  • Wow! GSN didn't speed this episode up!

  • You're right!

  • lol the mom sounded like Edith

  • Not Ray bud.

  • Lol I was thinking George Jetson, I know he's a fictional character but ah well :-p

  • Louie Anderson said that he never got the whole "families behind the doors" thing. It has always seemed obvious to me that the show was based on the Hatfields and McCoys.

  • They returned that thing after John O'Hurley became host.

  • Interestingly enough, they actually had the Hatfields and McCoys play in a special week.

  • Is it me, or does the theme song sound low?

  • Yes the theme is slow here. They ran it slow for the pilot/ABC premier and for the first half of the first season. Oddly, around late '77 and again in '79-80 it ran at a much higher/faster pitch for the intro and the commercial break between main game and fast money.

  • I thought the faster pitch was GSN's stupid speed-up thing.

  • No. those damned speedups make the theme song sound like hee-haw or a hoot'n nany.<(SP?)

  • No one hear liked Ray Combs?

  • i did

  • I liked Ray Combs just fine, but i'll always prefer Dawson over any of the other 'Feud emcees.

  • I loved Ray. R.I.P Ray.

  • Ray Combs was the best! I liked his version of FF.

  • I did. I grew up w/ his version than I did w/ Dawson's unfortunately.

Besides seeing Dawson's Feud on Mama's Family, I never saw any regular Dawson eps. until I saw GSN.

  • richard is the best

  • This show would become a classic. Richard Dawson is "Family Feud!" And that no other host has come close to even being like him at all. No matter how many hosts have host this show! For me, Richard is the one, the only, the original!

  • This was the very first edition I used to watch on GSN when I was a little kid.

  • I'm not sure whether you agree with me or not, but during the intro, Gene Wood, the announcer, seems to be talking with a bit of a southern accent. I don't know. That's just what I think he sounded like in this particular episode.

  • I dont think its a southern accent, but he sounds much higher pitched than in later years and doesnt say "Family FEEEEEEEUUUD" like in the later years (early80s-85, 1988-95)

Gene's voice was definately a better fit for 'Feud than Johnny Olson who fit TPIR and Match Game better.

  • Nice wide shot of the studio at :31 to :41!

  • Must have been one of the first shows to use a wireless lavalier mike. We priests use them all the time.

  • at 5:28, did she say piss or pass?

  • for the george question: I was first thinking of george michael, but he was not famous yet!

  • At least, not for another decade.... :D

  • i thought of george lopez, bush, curious george, george washington, and george hw bush (bush's father)

  • 32 years later this game formula is still popular. Who's going to watch the new Celebrity Family Feud? Famous people probably come up with even dumber answers.

  • It's funny that they passed the very first questions ever on the show.

  • Believe it or not Richard did not kiss the women at first. It was only after a female contestant who was nervous asked for a kiss from him for good luck. Then the next one wanted one after that then Richard decided to do the same for all the female contestants.

  • Kinda choppy edit at the 6:08 mark.

  • Gene sounded like he was really excited to be there!

  • richard dawson the the best ff host!!

  • He didn't kiss anyone.....

  • This was beginning of the run...

The kissing started later in the run.

  • And the kissing would continue until the end of this first run. He decided not to continue the kissing in the '94 version.

  • Because by then, he has become a dad and a husband.

Ironically, he met his wife when she was a contestant on the Feud.

  • Richard Dawson forever !

  • Why do they all pass? I guess they didn't know it would be better to play.

  • If you notice in the pilot, most of the time, a steal wins.

  • Richard Dawson best host of FF.

  • Didn't Richard say in an interview that he always wanted to host a game show?

  • not to mention all the cracks on Match Game about Richard wanting his own show.

  • The joke about Jack Lord's hair was said in the pilot episode too.

  • Dawson is the man

  • Dawson is the man

  • Im a cookie Monster hahahaha he is like the Quagmire ( Family Guy ) from the 70's. He was funny but I will always love Ray Combs R.I.P.

  • this show is very 1970s. look at that polyester.

  • was george clooney famous then?

  • He is still alive. he is 75yrs. old.

  • No, he's alive. I hope you aren't confusing him with Ray Combs.

  • He is alive, but he is a recluse... so no one has seen him in a long time.

  • i love this show watch it all the time on gsn .i still dont understand why he kisses the girls!sometimes he has to kiss all those ugly girls.

  • haha, because he loved all the ladies out there, regardless o
