Sincere man. His stance, however, is not necessarily courageous, if you really want to be honest about it. His stature is only enhanced internationally by the position he takes. Fact is his vision is unlikely to be realized. Fun fantasy of peace. At least he's making nice music and Arabs and Jews are working and playing together. Nothing wrong with that.

Aber man muß dann konsequent sein... dann muß man sofort anfangen, über den anderen zu lernen, weil dann sieht man, daß das Schicksal des jüdischen Volkes und des palästinensischen Volkes untrennbar sind, egal in welcher Form."

Omg...some grammatical errors... German is not his first or second, but infact his maybe third language.
His German is eccellent. Just remember all of his tv appeareances he mastered speaking German and explaining even the most difficult issues about music and politics.
Sorry, but these few Germans (?) out there posting comments regarding D.B.'s German. .hey, .what about your German...? Just ridiculous and ashaming...
I met him on Friday evening during the 1st of 2 concerts which he gave in Monaco. He speaks very well about French. It is necessary not to forget that he managed the Orchestra of Paris during more than 10 years and one very accessible, kind man and an immense musician.
I adore him as a musician ..and just as much for his relentless effort to point out that peace for the Middle East will and can only come by accepting and tolerating different opinions and eventually working t o g e t h e r in order to stop this horrible and useless bloodshed..
amazing how he speaks german, its perfect but his italian is perfect too, I forgot his perfect spanish, his perfect hebrew and perfect english what more?

Its pretty damn close. A few grammatical mistakes and the tiniest bit of "germglish" and you say that he has "far from perfect german"? German television would either edit this or not post it if was bad. So don't complain. And if you know so much about german professor how bout you deal and pay attention to what he's saying and doing, which is so admirable that I would be willing to overlook a butchery of german, english, italian chinese. Stop disagreeing to get attention.
@ahypnos The day you can speak Spanish, German, English, French and Hebrew as he does, you will be able to come here and discuss about his speech. But now you're only a loser who desperately needs some attention.
@welertgus Absolutely! He speaks Russian fluently, too: I heard him speaking to his kids years ago in a café in Berlin. I'm sure his Italian is nearly flawless, as well.
It's a very surprising remark. I never said he is a great musician BECAUSE he speaks 6 languages! In fact, he is a very great musician, AND he speaks at least 6 languages. (actually, people who are gifted for music are often gifted for languages too. And Barenboïm is overgifted!)

this is true! not that I want to show off but I also speak many languages fluently and easily and that is because perhaps of the fine musical hearing...it happens to musicians...though I'm not as good as pianist as Barenboim..lol..absolutely not on that kind of level and knowledge! he's a genius!
His orchestra has been a wonderful feat of faith with Edward Said who unfortunately passed away before seeing their music played in Ramallah. Magnificent, thank you for posting this video, five stars.

Don't you have any other problems than to discuss his German skills! Listen to him! He is a brave man and should be an example for all of us!

Oui j'avais oublié qu'il avait dirigé en France durant de nombreuses années.
Vous avez de la chance de l'avoir vu-il joue ce soir à Pleyel ainsi que plusieurs fois de suite en France les 2 concerti de Chopin etc

His German isn't perfect... it's quite far from it, actually. Please don't pervert the meaning of 'perfect'.

sein Deutsch ist sehr gut, für Deutsch als Fremdsprache, man kann das nicht mit Muttersprachlern vergleichen. Sein Deutsch genügt höchsten Ansprüchen

Speaking any language other than the mother tongue can never be perfect.
Besides talking about OUR mother tongue;who masters it perfectly?.?.?

a) It's not pretty darn close.
b) Many grammatical mistakes. I'm guessing his pronounciation (which is quite ok) makes you biased here. Maybe you just have low standards, who knows?
c) German TV wouldn't necessarily edit it. But whether or not it'd be edited is irrelevant, and clinging to 'experts' opinions is not an argument.
d) I don't let causes, actions or personality of subjects bias my observation of the quality of their speech.
e) I don't let trolls like you tell me what to do, thank you.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Herr Barenboim,
so my advice to you is to keep your nose out of things that you know very littel about.
and start lerning new reputwar.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

Barenboim is a great man. But his interviews with Charlie Rose are more interesting. The journalist is too stiff, annoying.
