@yclept9 , it will be exceedingly more difficult to cut with the trimmer when gas is ten bucks.....or gone!! nevermind your hearing, and hands that don't stop buzzing when your trying to fall asleep at night!
argh he was no good strimmer. the cord should of been longer and cutting on each swing using diamond shape cord. Scotlands finest strimmer right here strimming fields and hills 9 hrs 5 days a week for over a year because the owner of the Ardanaseig eastate is to much of a tight ass to get the kabuta we need for the typical wet highland grounds. By the time i finish the grounds, i go back to the start. You want to know about strimming, ye speak to me or find me at the Taynuilt pub :)
@mar01006765 Not much harder; his sweep was about as big as it gets so I don't know how much faster he could have gone. I think it just proves that all that energy from the actual work to what goes in to making the machine and burning the fuel, doesn't give you much advantage... It's an eye opener for me because I have to strim large areas on a regular basis.
What about a lawnmower

I guarantee the scythe guy was more worn out.
The scythe moves the grass to the side, and moving the grass takes a lot more energy than letting it fall where it's severed.
The actual cutting energy with a sharp scythe is pretty near zero, just as it is with the string trimmer.
