Unless like most mothers, they're drinking and on drugs. Then they breast feed that to their babies. Leave it up to the individual mother to decide what's best for their child. No harm meant in this statement I'm about to make but we are overpopulating the planet as it is. Things die, people die it's life.
there is not right and wrong in this issue. When the demand is there, supply automatically will come. Not all the mum can breast feed ( I'm breast feed supporter). Are you going to provide the free milk for the third country? I don't think so! It must be some one/company who willing to do so..Yea! Im sure there is a business stratergy there..but FEED the baby 1st before we can educat them..

Sorry, angelahk28f but you're wrong. Perhaps you were reading Nestle's propaghanda. The boycott started in 1977, long before HIV. It is nothing but greed as to the reason Nestle continues this evil practice. Education is not such when it is selective.
I've never really thinked at this in this way! Good job with the vid! Reminds me of a documentary about native australians/filipin where they lived their whole life at a self made boat. The famiily had a 2 month baby boy who was skin and bones, they had to buy him formula. And he died while the documentary was shooting. The family had 5 children, and 9 angels. ABSOLUTLY HORRIFIC!! The healthcare in development countries' fucked up! Is the companies responsable for this massmurder?!
The reason they give them formula is because HIV can be transferred to a baby from breast milk. As a preventative they introduced formula to HIV positive moms.
Formula is also a guaranteed source of nutrition. That can be feed by anyone to the baby.
HIV is a good reason for formula but not every mother in the Third World has HIV. I appreciate you looking further into the issue!! Education is always good.
When milk companies advertisement say that babies become more intelligent with milk formulas (like in the Filippines), this is a good reason to avoid artificial feeding and breastfeed your baby!!!!!
It's about money and power and abuse of the vulnerable. It is about power misuse centred around one of the most precious and sacred aspects of life. It is a rape of the poor and vulnerable.
@angelahk28f I think it's a better Idea to breastfeed the baby eitherway. For heavens sake, if they can't afford formula or even have access to clean water! 1,5 million babies dead! Is this really true??
@angelahk28f If you read the poltics of breastfeeding in these counties it IS safer for a mum with HIV to fully breastfeed than than to formula feed, I have also done a peer supporters course and in one of our quiz's they ask the same the same question and the answer is still the same in areas with no money to buy the formula or no safe means of sterilization baby is more likely to die from being formula fed than being fed human milk

Formula is not some conspiracy, it's not the issue needing to be addressed in 3rd world countries. Malnourished moms probably produce little to no breast milk. Hospital are the one that reaches out and makes the contract with the company. They live with poor hygiene, no sewage system, no running water. maybe work on teaching moms to boil water first. The formula itself isn't what is bad. It is the Nestle company that has bad policies. When they make the agreement with the hospitals THEY seek out they are in it for the money and that is where we go wrong. If Nestle was really trying to help these women they would make the formula affordable when they get home from the hospital, bad water isn't the only issue that causes baby death(i agree with teaching to boil), not feeding them enough is also an issue and that is because of no money.
Also a program like WIC (women infants and children) like they have in the US and Canada, could be put into place to make sure the mothers have the nutrition they need to feed the babies. In some places in the 3rd world it is much easier to obtain food for the mother then formula for the baby, so breastfeeding will of course be easier for those women and they should be encouraged to breastfeed.
@KlingonLady77 Formula in and of itself is actually pretty bad. There are many chemicals found in formula. Free aspartic acid BPA Fluorosis DHA/ARA Hexane Mercury Melamine Cyanuric acid Formaldehyde Antinutrients/soy Bacteria
@KlingonLady77 the hospital obviously judges the formula to be the best course of action and i dont see why nestle should feel obligated to make on loss on their formula in thirdword countries. if nestle didnt step in the babies the hospitals judged in need of formula would not have received it. this means they may have got HIV/AIDS, been under nutritioned or possibly even died. ok the situiation is not ideal but they are doing a service to the communities, no?
@angelahk28f Malnourished moms do produce adequate breastmilk. Breasts are an amazing creation.Unless mother is for sure HIV positive, she should breastfeed. There are very few mothers whose breasts don't make breastmilk. I've held babies who were dying of malnutrition because they were bottle fed. Some families didn't have enough money, so they diluted the milk too much, others could not clean their bottles or were using dirty water. These are the poor uneducated women that Nestle preys upon.
@newrecoverynurse Direct quote from UNICEF "If she is severely malnourished, the quantity of breastmilk produced for each feeding may be diminished". One needs adequate hydration and nourishment to produce breast milk. If the mom is dehydrated and hasn't eaten she will not have enough milk.
Food prices around the world have spiked because of higher prices for oil. Many third world counties are eating clay dirt as meals and drinking from polluted rivers.
"Breastfeeding is free and safe" AND it's natural. If it wasn't for these money grabbing corporations, we would have a much healthier society - worldwide. Great vid 5/5
fix the problem before it kills the kids. Doesn't China have a 1 kid policy ? Handing things out on a platter no matter how many children are dieing is not the answer .. your just making it easier for them to have more kids. Educate them.
Everyone is so upset about the companies and them not doing anything .. where I understand they should lower the prices so that people can afford to continue the care when they go home.. they need to stop ppls breeding .. half these ppls have no money to support themselves .. let alone a kid.. and most of these ppls are having 2, 3 or 4 kids .. none of them with proper medical assistance .. teach them birth control ..
anyhoo, i am currntly bf my son (19 months) and i am so glad i stuck with it. Before i got pregnant, i was so nieve. I just assumed that all women bf and only used formula in extreme situations (illnes etc) however my eyes have been truly opened. breastmilk is the natural (G-ds) design for us to feed our children. It is nice that shoud you be incapacited that there is a substitute, but this is the key word, substitute, not the real deal.
I agree that the marketing of Nestle formula in the third world repulses me, but the La Leche International people aren't all that wonderful either. When my son was born, I had a really hard time getting him to latch on. I tried everything. He was starving. We were at the drs every 3 days weighing, and praying he would start gaining. He cried constantly bc he was hungry.I had to start using formula & they pretty much condemned me for it. They'd rather I starved my son than use formula. sad!
well I am not saying don't feed formula to your baby!! :D You do the best you can with the tools you have! and if that requires formula then that is fine! As long as it is done properly. Mix it in proper portions and use clean water and you should be all good. If I had to use formula to feed my babies then I would because I don't want them to starve, but knowing what I know about Nestle and their practices I would just not buy Nestle formula. Just like I don't by their other products :D
I'm not trying to be confrontational, please do think that! I just was really turned off that they pushed their agenda instead of what was best for my child. I think that is the problem with any organization, profit or not. I think maybe the non profits need to start an education program instead of trying to shut out Nestle, the education of mothers will win over the marketing.
I also didn't mean to sound confrontational either in my reply, just trying to make what I had to say fit in the itty bitty box LOL. Education is always the best way to solve a problem, that is the main reason I made this video! Was to share my knowledge with others, says in my description that I agree that if formula must be used then it must be used. IMO those using formula can use another brand and still support the Nestle boycott. I am just trying to do my part to spread the word! Thanks!!
This is true! They do own so much! But I try to keep current with the list and I do the best I can.. If I accidentally buy something that is from a nestle owned company I make note and just don't buy it again.
Kelly, I'm a LLL Leader & on behalf of the organization I'd like to apologize for any criticism or lack of help you received. That's not how Leaders are supposed to act.
I don't kno yr whole story, but did u have any meds during labor & delivery? Did u have an epidural? It is well documented that these meds can suppress baby's suck reflex & cause probs getting bf established. If you rec'd meds & weren't warned of the risks u need to have a serious talk w yr OB.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If this "conspiracy" were true, would not the mothers tell the mothers-to-be that she should breast feed? Come on, folks. Sounds like Western-bashing a la AIDS conspiracy nonsense.
brianp: pls go to La Leche League International website & search AIDS. They have the latest info & say the benefits of bf still outweigh the risks of AIDS. Bottle feeding leads to death from diarrhea (bad water) or malnutrition (mom dilutes formula to make it go farther bec she can't afford to buy it after the "free" sample is used up. ALL formula companies r bad but Nestle is the worst, most ruthless offender. This IS a conspiracy by Corporate Greedy Formula Cos. against innocent moms & babes.
Lovely video. 5*. I boycott Nestle too, and also George Clooney since he decided, from his very priviledged position, to endorse them. Like he needs the money!!!:-/
While I do think breastfeeding is best, in some third world counties, it is not always safe. When mom has AIDS, Hepatitis, TB, or other various diseases, I personally believe it is NOT in the mom's best interest to heighten the risk to the Child. Companies like Nestle would be better offering people in these countries a year's supply of formula per child, but I know that probably isn't plausible. I think it is noble of these companies to do what they can, but I do think they need to do more.
Yes you sure bring some interesting points to the table. I still boycott Nestle because they do not do enough. While it is great that they can provide formula to babies that need it, like the ones you mentioned there are still many innocent babies of healthy mothers being talked out of breastfeeding their babies so that Nestle can make money! I don't mind them giving formula to babies like you mentioned, they need to refocus their marketing to THOSE babies and not the ones of healthy mothers...
They are breaking world codes and that is what I don't respect, I DO respect that they are trying to keep babies with sick mommies healthy, but they should leave the others alone. I really appreciate your comment!! Thanks so much!!
That's the point I was trying to make. I just didn't make it as eloquently. Will I boycott? Probably not, I would rather do something like write letters and explain why I don't agree with their policies and urge them to change.
Thanks! I am really glad that you love my videos and a letter to them is a good idea!! Each person needs to decide for themselves to what degree they wish to go in circumstances like this, it took me a long time after hearing about it to make up my mind to boycott. But it is fine for others to make their own choices!! That is what life is all about!! Hurrah!!
I thank the whole staff at the hospital who helped me so much, without them I know I would have given up. It was hard for me, had chapped nipples almost bleeding, no milk coming out, I had a hungry big 11 lbs baby to feed...I gave myself the biggest kick in the ass ever and really put my heart and soul in this. I'm glad I'm still breastfeeding , and I don't regret a day.
It's normal to have difficulties in the beginning, thats why it's good to have help . Alot of our mothers didnt breatsfeed and even with the willpower to BF, when we don't have help it can mean failure.
You are very correct Stella!! Her family and friends would not have let her baby die!! There have always been women that have herbs and methods to get breastfeeding to work and if not surely they would find a nearby lactating woman that could help you!!
I'm also a ''lactavist'' . I support breastfeeding 100 % . I'm still breastfeeding my kid who is now almost 2 years old. I also boycot all Nestlé products. I believe we need to spread the word about the avantages of breastfeeding. I've always wondered what to think about mothers who willingly choose bottle feeding over breastfeeding WHEN knowing the facts.
Thanks so very much for your support in spreading this message!!! also yay to you for being able to breastfeed so long!! My daughter just turned 2 a month ago and she is still going strong too!!
I had problem breastfeeding. I simply had no milk. I wanted to breastfeed so much. My daughter lost weight from 7 lbs to 5.5 lbs. and I could not bare the thought that she is not eating, so I had to formula feed her. If we would be living in the dark ages, she would have died from hunger.
Well then you took care of your baby best you could!! I am not saying don't use formula at all! I know that sometimes mothers can't for various reasons and that is very understandable. What I was saying is that those people who use formula just don't use Nestle. I support mothers who care for their babies whether they can breastfeed or not!! You are awesome for doing the best for your baby!!!
ppl give up 2 easily, yes breastfeeding is natural, and the human instincts r certainly there, but its difficult 4 the 1st few weeks, dont give up, no one has ever told an expectant mother its a breeze, if they have, they r lying, it takes time, its a new thing, practise makes perfect in this case
Yes I agree people do give up too easily. Yes Breastfeeding is hard at first but some of the best things in life are hard but so very worth it!! I look at each of my three babies and know that I made the right choice for all of them!
Brilliant video, well explained, it's unbelieveable that they are killing babies but they don't care as long as they get as much money as possible, how can this be allowed? all formula advertising should be banned or at least in hospital, breastfeeding should be encouraged not bottle feeding, a mother knows it's there if she wants it.Love the pics too, i wonder how i can get one? Breastfeeding ignorance needs to be stopped.
Thanks so much for your comment! I could email you some of the pics that I used in this breastfeeding and my other breastfeeding video if you just tell me which ones you want and your email address.
This is very sad. You would think though that the materity hospitals would ban this free formula milk if the end result is the death of a baby. That said, Nestle is now off the list in this house.
The lobby group Pharmaceutical & Health Care Association of the Philippines (PHAP), composed of Abbot, Wyeth, Mead Johnson, AstraZeneca, Bayer, Novartis & Glaxo SmithKline petitioned the Supreme Court to issue a restraining order on Milk Code, hinting that the code will affect investment plans of milk manufacturers in the country and so cut back on jobs. Sneaky!
Awesome. Nicely done! I was forced in the hosp to feed my baby formula b/c his sugar was low. I didn't give up. I weaned him off formula and onto breastmilk via pumping and event. nursing. It took us 6 wks to get the hang of it and we're still nursing at 16 months! IT CAN BE DONE. I am proof!
WOOHOOO!! I love success stories!!! I was so VERY insistent with my first baby that he NOT by any means be given formula at the hospital but they still managed to get an ounce into him....grrrrrr....WITH A SPOON!!! I was so mad!!
I have breastfed my three kids for a combined total of over 85 months!!!! very little break between each one!! It is whats best!!
You're very welcome. I believe that you just have to get educated, make a decision, commit to success and do your very best to stand by your beliefs and it will happen. The hardest part for men & women is the education so that's why avenues like this are so great. And, that's why you rock!
Thank you!!!! Yes I agree education is the key to success!! That is what I was going for with this vid!! I have in the last few days released another breastfeeding vid if you would like to look at it!
Sure. How do I view it? I just started making a breastfeeding education playlist so I can share it with some of my friends who are currently pregnant.
YOU GO, GIRL!!! ^___^ What a beautiful and powerful video this is. (I love your choice of music too--- "Baby Mine" is so appropriate.)
I can't believe that Nestle is behind something so awful! I'll never eat their stinkin' chocolate again until they do something about this. Breastfeeding is so
beautiful and natural, and so much healthier
for babies. That's why God gave us breasts,
sistahs!
Thanks for helping to open my eyes, hon---I will spread the word!
WOW!! I am so warmed by your comment!! That really means a lot to me!!!! I am glad that I could bring this to peoples attention!!! Thank you so much for your comment!!!!
Oh it does!!!!!! and it is so good, healthwise, for the mother and baby too!!! I am glad you will breastfeed Ilona!!!!! If when you have children, which I know won't be for a while!, you have problems with breastfeeding just let me know and I will be happy to help you work them out!!!!!
Hey! Thanks for your comment on my video! This was great! It's fantastic to know that there are other people out there who care about this issue :) This is a real passion for me to. Keep up the great work!
Great work with an important message! I totally agree with you on the matter. Excuse me but I don't understand mothers who do not breastfeed their children. I mean, for God's sake, that's why women have breasts, contrary to common belief... And as you said, one can save a small fortune by breastfeeding. Hopefully a lot of people see this and get the message!
Thanks for your support Zoe!! It means a lot to me! You and I have talked about breastfeeding before and you and I see eye to eye!! That is what breasts are for!! The other is just a lucky side effect!;D ha ha!! Take care my friend!!! :D
Oh, wow! That was great! A really good video with an important message. I truly support your opinion. I love that you included all these beautiful pics from your family *sigh*. Terrific!!
Thanks! I am so glad that you like it!! It seems to be going over well! At least so far!!! I appreciate your comment!! ALSO again I AM GLAD YOU ARE HOME!!!!HUGS!!!
I am off to bed now!! Hopefully we can chat soon!!! :D
You know how I feel about this, and you know I agree with you! Breastfeeding is a natural occurrence and shouldn't be undermined nor thought of as indecent. I think we need to start seriously considering what implications society is creating by banning public breastfeeding and by companies like Nestle doing what they are doing...
*sigh*
It's a good thing I like Hershey much better anyway! ;)
Thankyou. I loved that you included your beautiful breastfed babies. They are clearly well nourished and well loved. I agree breastmilk is best. I do, like you, also support moms who need to bottle feed too. Any mom who feeds thier baby is a good mommy!! Love to you and yours.

Yes, it is our home planet, so we all should care about each other - we ARE in the same boat.
Please, don't just let "other peoples' babies" die, just because they are unlucky to live at the wrong place.
Let us all at least TRY do do something to make life better for each other :-)

"Breastfeeding is free and safe" AND it's natural. If it wasn't for these money grabbing corporations, we would have a much healthier society - worldwide. Great vid 5/5

fix the problem before it kills the kids. Doesn't China have a 1 kid policy ? Handing things out on a platter no matter how many children are dieing is not the answer .. your just making it easier for them to have more kids. Educate them.
cypressjill08 3 years ago
There's two things wrong with this topic.
Everyone is so upset about the companies and them not doing anything .. where I understand they should lower the prices so that people can afford to continue the care when they go home.. they need to stop ppls breeding .. half these ppls have no money to support themselves .. let alone a kid.. and most of these ppls are having 2, 3 or 4 kids .. none of them with proper medical assistance .. teach them birth control ..
cypressjill08 3 years ago
Birth controll is good BUT if more mothers breastfed then the financial aspect of supporting kids wouldnt be as big of a problem.

anyhoo, i am currntly bf my son (19 months) and i am so glad i stuck with it.

They'd rather I starved my son than use formula. sad!
kellygrote 3 years ago
well I am not saying don't feed formula to your baby!!
KlingonLady77 3 years ago
I'm not trying to be confrontational, please do think that! I just was really turned off that they pushed their agenda instead of what was best for my child. I think that is the problem with any organization, profit or not. I think maybe the non profits need to start an education program instead of trying to shut out Nestle, the education of mothers will win over the marketing.
kellygrote 3 years ago
I also didn't mean to sound confrontational either in my reply, just trying to make what I had to say fit in the itty bitty box LOL. Education is always the best way to solve a problem, that is the main reason I made this video! Was to share my knowledge with others, says in my description that I agree that if formula must be used then it must be used. IMO those using formula can use another brand and still support the Nestle boycott. I am just trying to do my part to spread the word! Thanks!!
KlingonLady77 3 years ago
the problem is nestle owns so much stuff, its hard to know which company you're buying from..
hunterthompson123 3 years ago

This comment has received too many negative votes show
If this "conspiracy" were true, would not the mothers tell the mothers-to-be that she should breast feed? Come on, folks. Sounds like Western-bashing a la AIDS conspiracy nonsense.
brianpadraic 3 years ago
brianp: pls go to La Leche League International website & search AIDS. This IS a conspiracy by Corporate Greedy Formula Cos. against innocent moms & babes.
carriebg 3 years ago 2
Lovely video. 5*. I boycott Nestle too, and also George Clooney since he decided, from his very priviledged position, to endorse them. Like he needs the money!!!:-/
barmybinky 3 years ago 2
While I do think breastfeeding is best, in some third world counties, it is not always safe. When mom has AIDS, Hepatitis, TB, or other various diseases, I personally believe it is NOT in the mom's best interest to heighten the risk to the Child. Companies like Nestle would be better offering people in these countries a year's supply of formula per child, but I know that probably isn't plausible. I think it is noble of these companies to do what they can, but I do think they need to do more.
AnniKat12 3 years ago
Yes you sure bring some interesting points to the table. I still boycott Nestle because they do not do enough. While it is great that they can provide formula to babies that need it, like the ones you mentioned there are still many innocent babies of healthy mothers being talked out of breastfeeding their babies so that Nestle can make money! I don't mind them giving formula to babies like you mentioned, they need to refocus their marketing to THOSE babies and not the ones of healthy mothers...
KlingonLady77 3 years ago
They are breaking world codes and that is what I don't respect, I DO respect that they are trying to keep babies with sick mommies healthy, but they should leave the others alone. I really appreciate your comment!! Thanks so much!!
KlingonLady77 3 years ago
That's the point I was trying to make. I just didn't make it as eloquently. Will I boycott? Probably not, I would rather do something like write letters and explain why I don't agree with their policies and urge them to change.
I have to say I do love your videos though :)
AnniKat12 3 years ago

Stellamygirl 3 years ago
It's normal to have difficulties in the beginning, thats why it's good to have help . Alot of our mothers didnt breatsfeed and even with the willpower to BF, when we don't have help it can mean failure.
Stellamygirl 3 years ago
To MARIKAKOVACS: If you were living in the dark ages odds are your mother, sister , grandmother would have helped you out with breastfeeding.
Stellamygirl 3 years ago
You are very correct Stella!! Her family and friends would not have let her baby die!! There have always been women that have herbs and methods to get breastfeeding to work and if not surely they would find a nearby lactating woman that could help you!!
KlingonLady77 3 years ago
I'm also a ''lactavist'' . I support breastfeeding 100 % . I'm still breastfeeding my kid who is now almost 2 years old. I also boycot all Nestlé products. I believe we need to spread the word about the avantages of breastfeeding. I've always wondered what to think about mothers who willingly choose bottle feeding over breastfeeding WHEN knowing the facts.
Stellamygirl 3 years ago
Thanks so very much for your support in spreading this message!!! also yay to you for being able to breastfeed so long!! My daughter just turned 2 a month ago and she is still going strong too!!
Thanks!

And great to see Baby Milk Action mentioned at the end.
AlwaysReadTheLabel 4 years ago
I had problem breastfeeding. I simply had no milk. I wanted to breastfeed so much. My daughter lost weight from 7 lbs to 5.5 lbs. and I could not bare the thought that she is not eating, so I had to formula feed her. If we would be living in the dark ages, she would have died from hunger.
marikakovacs 4 years ago
Well then you took care of your baby best you could!! I am not saying don't use formula at all! I know that sometimes mothers can't for various reasons and that is very understandable. What I was saying is that those people who use formula just don't use Nestle. I support mothers who care for their babies whether they can breastfeed or not!! You are awesome for doing the best for your baby!!!
KlingonLady77 4 years ago
babys dying every 30 seconds would be equal to 1 and a half million babies dying in a year
77Happy77 4 years ago
Thats a whole lot of babies that shouldn't be dying! Thanks for the comment!
KlingonLady77 4 years ago
agree with u! It sucks that tooo many babies are dying!
77Happy77 3 years ago
ppl give up 2 easily, yes breastfeeding is natural, and the human instincts r certainly there, but its difficult 4 the 1st few weeks, dont give up, no one has ever told an expectant mother its a breeze, if they have, they r lying, it takes time, its a new thing, practise makes perfect in this case
sarahmelb 4 years ago
Yes I agree people do give up too easily. Yes Breastfeeding is hard at first but some of the best things in life are hard but so very worth it!! I look at each of my three babies and know that I made the right choice for all of them!
Thank you for watching and leaving me a comment!
KlingonLady77 4 years ago
Brilliant video, well explained, it's unbelieveable that they are killing babies but they don't care as long as they get as much money as possible, how can this be allowed? all formula advertising should be banned or at least in hospital, breastfeeding should be encouraged not bottle feeding, a mother knows it's there if she wants it.Love the pics too, i wonder how i can get one? Breastfeeding ignorance needs to be stopped.
GillianlovesTeagan 4 years ago
Thanks so much for your comment! I could email you some of the pics that I used in this breastfeeding and my other breastfeeding video if you just tell me which ones you want and your email address.
KlingonLady77 4 years ago

I am proof!
MacMommy1228 4 years ago
THanks for the comment!
KlingonLady77 4 years ago
You're very welcome. I believe that you just have to get educated, make a decision, commit to success and do your very best to stand by your beliefs and it will happen. The hardest part for men & women is the education so that's why avenues like this are so great. And, that's why you rock!
MacMommy1228 4 years ago

I happened upon the Nestle website and they've got a whole page on the baby-milk issue. I wonder if the whole co. is in fault about this,
or if some of their reps are just ignoring the laws overseas? Either way, I hope some action
gets taken on this. Anyway, hang in there! :)

Wow...
My friend, this is truly a powerful video...
You know how I feel about this, and you know I agree with you! Breastfeeding is a natural occurrence and shouldn't be undermined nor thought of as indecent. I think we need to start seriously considering what implications society is creating by banning public breastfeeding and by companies like Nestle doing what they are doing...
*sigh*
It's a good thing I like Hershey much better anyway! ;)
