  • Hi! Great channel, i learn a lot! I have a 2006 Sportster Custom and I've changed the standard handlebars for the new 10' Z bars. The problem is that there's no dimples for the electric cables on the Z bars. How to put them under/over the clamps?

  • @panzelig Hi there mate, thanks for your nice comments... the Keystone bars i had came with dimples, if you dont have them, it is perfectly simple to cut a small notch in the switch block casing to let the cables through, and make sure you file the notch so it has no sharp edge otherwise it can cut through the cable casings... this is normal on all Japanese bikes anyway..

  • @Moonfleet41 That's what i did this morning using a file, it works. Good point with the sharp edges, I'll have to check it. Do you know the speedometer at the 883C? It's built-in the riser. I think i will have to change it, any idea what to use? I would like to do it myself so i need one fitting to the HD plug, not to complicated...

  • @panzelig oh, and that's because i've changed the risers to the 1' ones...

  • @panzelig Hi again.. yeah, you can use the bracket from the 883 iron, it just clamps under the bar clamp level wit the bars.. best advice, go to visit your Harley main dealer, look at the other Sportsters, only your 'Custom' has that high level riser... the clocks are all the same, its just the mount, choose one that looks right for you, then ask the parts guys to order it for you... easy. !

  • @Moonfleet41 thanks man, appreciate it!

  • Bad arse haha

  • @2wheelsteve I used to be 'badass' mate, but these days its just badback..!lol.

  • @Moonfleet41 Haha brilliant reply :)))

  • Hello friend. First of all, congrats for the beautiful bike, I also have one and I got a few questions for you. I wanna do the same modification in my Iron. What size is your zbar? Did you modify the cables or wires? I could see that your pipes are not that wide. Are your pipes 2" or 3"? Do you have baffles in your pipes?

  • @crisfella Hi Chris. The Biltwell bars are 9" rise, just lift the tank up a bit at the front and wrestle the wiring through a bit, its will reach fine with OE loom and cables...... the pipes are factory headers with Vance & Hines mufflers...and no baffles.. i wrapped them in the heat tape which makes them look fatter.... thanks for the kind things you said too, i appreciate your comments... good luck with the mods mate, and ride safe... Del.

  • Been running the Keystones on mine for 2 years now and really dig them. Nice job on your bike.

  • @skyjac92 Thanks buddy, they are way cooler that ANYTHING that the MoCo ever produced aye?,.... ride safe dude... Del.

  • if that iron had the Headlamp Visor Kit or Detachable Quarter Fairing Kit that 883 will be bad ass man

  • @hefty88 Thanks Hefty, i had to sell that bike about 5 months back to pay the bills and keep the business running, i was a proper dark custom for sure... thanks for the kind comment.. Del.

  • Thoughs bars a sweet man! Now is this the bike your ratting? Or are you using a differant one?

  • @Rasd4Metta No, this was my Sportster iron, had to sell it a few months back to prop up the family business, being self employed sucks when things go quiet....but hey ho, i paid the bills, and bought the Suzuki Bandit with the change... so thats all a happy ending... Plus the Sportser was single seat, when we wanted to go out together for a ride, it was always both bikes, and hers is too shiney to get wet...and now with the Bandit of doom we go two-up on that what ever the weather..

  • Thanks a ton ,They are with out a doubt the best look,I was going Cafe style with my iron, check out my vid 883 iron cafe racer, you converted me back, took off the faring, the rubber boots and ordered a 2 in tank lift, sorry I,m going copy cat,Dan

  • @SNOWxTROOPER Checked the video....that screen is amazing, did you paint that..? and you're hardly copying, style is style, nobody owns a look, get stuck on brother, and lets see a walk round when you're done.... Regards..

    Del.

  • Also did the Biltwell come as 1 in bars ,I went on the biltwell web site and it did not mention size on the keystone bars?

  • @SNOWxTROOPER Yes indeed Dan, they come 1" with wiring dimples ready to fit to any harley.. let hads a video when you'ere done, they look cool and any bike.. Cheers, Del.

  • Did you have to change the stock controls cables ,? thanks for the helpful tips

  • @SNOWxTROOPER No Dan, they fit right on with just a little tightness on the left side wiring loom.... so i took the tank front mount bolt out, and just wriggled a little slack out from under and then everything was fine, and i mean only a little, just maybe an inch at most.. otherwise your stock cables all fit with no trouble..

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing, and teaching! love the look of the bars but looking for ones with a slightly sharper angle on the z's. know of any? lickscycles in the U.S. used to have them, but can't seem to find them anymore

  • @Waelaboulmagd Hi there, thanks for your kind comments, im glad you enjoyed it... i wanted to find some proper Z bars too, the only ones i found out there with a promounced sharp "Z" shape were only about 4" rise, also the higher they go with the risers coming together, eventually they will meet at the top and for a triangle, and look weird.. the best looking bars IMHO (which i couldnt afford) were the Roland Sands ape hangers with the wleded in 'webs'... they look way aggressive and industrial.

  • Hey mate, nice work! You beat me to making a fitting video. I am fitting my Keystones along with some Heat Demon internally heated grips and a Joker Machine speedo side mount. Keen to see a vid of your bike on the road! Cheers.

  • @rockabillychuck Thanks Charlie, im glad you like them too mate, i had a few people say they dont like the shape.. but then i guess thats why i like them, because they are different and off-main stream.. do a video anyway fellah, nowt like sharing the love, and i just LOVE that Joker machine stuff... take it easy... Del.

  • Nice job Mate, the barz look bad ass. I'm wondering how tall are the barz?

  • @getmcghee Hi mate, thanks for your comment... they are about 8" from the cross bar to the point.. but the hands drop away at 30 degrees, so your fists sit about 6" above the clamp.... about 3" higher than the OE bars.. hope that helps..

  • Del, just a quick one mate what drag bars did you pull off this? as in brand or any risers as well?

  • @BenalexH Ayup Ben, the bars i took off had no brand on them, just black powder coated 1" drag bars, they are easily available from many sources, and the risers were the standard ones. (you can make a nice look with some 4" risers however, looks a bit "T" bar then, and all the cables still reach just fine.

  • Del that is a beauty of a bike!! Well done mate :)

  • @franco8990 Thanks Franco, i miss it like crazy... but hey, all good things to those who wait, just gotta get past this poxy recession and save up for another Harley... "ill be back"...

  • @Moonfleet41 What a shame to let her go m8, I feel your pain, just cherish the good times :) Thank you once again for videos and all your good work :) keep it up Del

  • just wanted to say thanks, i just finished putting the same bars on my bike. your video helped out alot. keep em coming!

  • @Minalaker75 You're welcome fellah, im glad you like the Biltwells, not to everybody's taste, (which is kinda why i like them lol) and glad the video helped.... would you beleive the local dealer here charges £75 to fit a pair of bars... so now you can go to the pub and have many beers, and still be quids-in...yey..!

  • Great bike and great skills on customizing it :P

  • @pacioco898 Ciao Paco, and thanks for your nice comments, its great to have support from my brothers in Italy. thanks for subscribing too, ride safe, Del.

  • The Red Baron has "Clubman" Bars mounted in reverse.. Almost the same thing! Basically a rice-rocket low drag bar mounted upside down..

  • @berkelusa I know the type Rob, My old man had them on his Triton back in the 60's, they were always called "Ace bars" here..

  • @Moonfleet41 - Hey I like that better than Clubman.. that reminds me of a Cave Man.. At least yours reminds me of a Flying Ace.. :^P

  • Will let you see once done. I was thinking of Z bars but the cost put me off but the Keystone bars you have are as good and affordable. Why you attacking the baffles? More noise required? Won't that have a negative effect on performance (less pressure?) I think drag pipes are about the loudest aren't they? I was going to get the Ignition & Coil relocate kit with the tank lift so it gets rid of all the crap under the tank. Seen some here on youtube and it looks kinda mean...

    Cheers & stay safe.

  • @Chipitin4birdie yes, it was price that motivated me on the Z bars, Harley dealer wanted £400+ with the longer cables and wiring kit, but the Biltwell's were £110 posted and all the cabling fits... plus they look way cooler than the old fashioned 'cowboy' apehangers. Baffles had to be dealt with, it was not only a bit quiet, but it was 'the wrong sound' too, fluffy and limp, just like factory pipes but a bit more volume, now they sound proper aggresive and the fuel remap makes it run perfectly.

  • Great job, great video, great transformation with the keystone bars. Looking forward to your video with the tank lift.

    Well done!

  • @Chipitin4birdie Thanks Chip, still chewing on the tank lift idea for a moment, they retail a kit for about £20, but you know me, its two bits of steel strap and a bolt.... so if it gets done, ill MAKE it rather then buy it.. thats way i can sling it in the scrap box if it look pants.... spent yesterday beating the crap out of my exhaust baffles, uploading as soon as its edited. .. P.S. send us a pick of the bike once you get it slammed aye..);-)

  • Congrad's on the new bars, they look great !!!! Did you think of running the wires inside them ? They would look even better. Keep those video's coming, i really enjoy watching them.

    Ride safe from Canada

  • @alaind39 Did think about that, but its a complete ballache and they are pretty unobtrusive clipped back behind for now, it may get done in the future though. more interested in actually stripping the switchgear OFF the bars all together, and run a foot clutch too..... plans for another day maybe.. thanks for your nice comments chap, ride safe. Del
