i LOVE her voice, so emotional and powerful... T_T

  • I love this artist,

    brilliant Blessed Be )o(

  • I can assure you 100 percent I could have edited and recorded this much better! Sloppy job for such a top performer??

  • @193Lola Sloppy? Where? And take note of the word LIVE in the title.

  • for Nicole

  • I'm sorry, but this song kind of annoyed me. Don't get me wrong, The Lady of Shallot is my favorite poem and Loreena McKennit does an amazing adaptation of it in her 11 minute version, but this was just confusing. The longer version only cuts out two are three verses that were fluff, though pretty fluff, in the first place. This cuts out important information about the Lady of Shallot and her curse and how she died. It makes no sense whatsoever. Her 11 minute version was perfect, this isn't.

  • Thank you very much for helping me DrizztDeUrden!

  • Damn it,I'm using my self phone to surf on the internet and I can't watch this one.

But I want to ask you something. What's the name of the song where Loreena plays her harp in a forest (I mean at the video) and there's also a lady who gets killed at the end of the video?

  • YES LOREENA.... I AM FLYING.....I LOVE UR ANGELIC VOICE...HE TOUCHED ME WITH HIS ANGELIC, WARM HANDS, AND I FLOATED UP AND I BEGAN TO TRANSCEND....

    STACEY GOLDBERG HALE

  • phenomenal. nothing more to say.

  • great,great,great that's all i can say :X

  • I remember watching this on PBS about a week or two ago. Just AMAZING! :D I HAD to hear it again!!!!!! Glad I found this on here! :D THANK YOU UPLOADER!!!!!! :DDDD

  • Hier kommt "kunst" noch von "können" ... klasse ...

  • She is so... amazing singer, composer... I can´t believe it! Just completely timeless!

  • 昨日母と静岡の大道芸に行ったときにこの曲ウォークマンで聴きながら行ったよ…♪。

  • Music that moves the soul. Always leaves me with the feeling of hope.

  • god i love her so much

  • This song always makes me cry. So beautiful, so tragic a tale.

  • Magnificent. Mystical. Melodic. Mellifluous. Majestic. Magical. Mellow. Marvellous. Motivating. Memorable. Mesmerizing. McKennitt...

  • @Percernis awesome alliteration! amazing!

  • is this song about the tennyson poem about shallott?

  • @XXvictoriellahXX

Yes, just very abridged. She has a version around 11 minutes long. It's still abridged from the poem but to a much lesser extent.

  • I know a version 11 minutes long! However, it is wonderful!X3

  • I like the longer version more

  • WOOOOOOOOONDERFUL

  • This is incredibly moving music. Unlike much of the garbage on the radio today it is lyrically and aurally stimulating. Performing at this level requires tremendous talent. It is sad how unknown and unappreciated she is compared to so called "musicians" who can't even sing in key or play an instrument.

  • @CarmenMirandasHat My friend, you have a true understanding of "the music chose her" :-)

  • saw that in literature class, along with the poem. Beautiful.

  • i love it !!

  • i shaked trough all the way trough thsi song/

  • I can easily see Miss McKennitt at King Arthur's table, giving a moment of peace and bliss to the Knights and the King and his Lady.

  • Beautiful...

  • Loreena is amazing

    This is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    if you like celtic music

check out my channel for folk and celtic guitar videos

  • I WANT THE ORIGINAL CD TO BYE PLEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She moves to tears both simpleton and brute.

  • Bravo!

  • So much emotional power in this voice and wedded to a beautifully crafted poem. The linking melody sounds amazing on the cello. On the one hand it can be emotionally crushing, but on the other, the fact that someone can still produce a performance like this gives hope for mankind. The longer version is wonderful.

  • 29 people have probably never cracked open a book.

  • loreena clearly was born in the wrong century , however that being said we are lucky seeing that her music takes us back in time..... without her here we wouldn't be able to experience this almost virtual time travel

  • beutifull singing and... screw it beutifull everything!

  • ...aggelikh voice!

  • I love this women's voice... you don't have to die to hear the voice of angels.

    (It's an Irish thing)

And when the Rolls of the Great Irish Reg'ts are read out, I think of my kinsmen who went into those Twin Towers.

  • I cry of happiness when I feel this amazing energy.

  • LOvely..

  • This is beautiful ... but drastically shortened. I saw her perform her full version on a stage she shared with Kate and Anna McGarrigle 20 years ago here in London. That version, the one on her album "The Visit", is itself an adaptation of Tennyson's poem, but retaining the most spellbinding verses. This video version is yet more radically shortened. If you haven't heard it, try to listen to the full "McKennitt version" - you have to allow yourself to be caught up in it, transfixed.

  • Tradional sounds with universal language. Lorena and this music touch the soul...

  • Here we go again, smiling with fresh wet cold lines from the eyes downward. This is so outstanding beautiful! Thank you Loreena. Thank you so much.

  • que voz mas hermosa la de ella.

  • She didn't do quite all of the verses in this performance. =[ It's just a bit longer than this.

  • Loreena is so beautiful here, and the song is so amazing.

  • No... Ms. McKennitt has not stopped touring or performing. I am kicking myself for not making one of three performances last summer in the small city where she lives... Stratford, Ontario.

She is a most amazing artist. One of a kind.

  • Thanks for the up!

This was the first time I ever heard of Loreena McKennitt, and her voice captivated me with this one simple song.

  • When was this recorded? Her hair and the video quality look very 80's-ish.

  • amazing

  • i love this and skellig bye her :) also betifull song but she cuts away so mutch :(

  • if u like this song, check out "in perfect harmony" by within temptation.

  • It's such a loss that Loreena has said she will never tour again,,

  • @william3231954

this isn't true! She's been touring on and off between new album recordings since the release of her album "An Ancient Muse" in 2006! :D

  • @piper42 Ok if you say so,, I just remember her saying a couple yrs ago that she's going to retire from touring,,and I haven't seen her appearing anywhere in my part of the world since,, maybe it was just in the USA

  • She's not disappeared. She has released two studio albums and two live albums since then. Take a look at her website (quinlanroad d o t c o m).

  • Pure class and talent

  • If she can sing better in live, she is a true singer. Devasting poem btw

  • i love this music it makes me sad i cry

  • I hate this version... She cut away so much of the song!!!!

  • flowing down to Camelot

  • Very nice..........i love it!!!

  • When I hear her voice I start to believe that there must be a God(dess) and her name is Loreena McKennitt.

  • This sends shivers down my spine...

  • Después de escuchar a Loreena McKennitt, la única conclusión es que Dios existe.

  • @franciscojavier2707 Bueno-dijo mi amigo

  • @franciscojavier2707

Rare are the authors who play so skillfully with pagan themes.

  • Fechar os olhos e voltar ao passado. Sonhar, viver com a alma. Linda musica e linda interpretação.Sem palabras para exprimir sentimento que ela nos deixa. Gostei imensamente . Dificil agradar Gregos e Troianos. Assim é a vida.

  • awesome voice , wonderful , love love love

  • Thanks for adding this performance from many years ago at the Juno Awards, where i heard Loreena for the first time, and became an instant fan. Her music constantly gives me goosebumps.

  • Loreena McKennitt's talents define arts the way it should be. Her music tells us of divinity exists in this Universe and that the existence of humankind is not simply a big bang.

There is beauty and honor in the human race, despite the bad things that people do to one another.

Hopefully people will give to arts and practice more love less wars and hatre.

  • @unebonnevie Simple, yet powerful wisdom there...humankind would do well to heed your words.

  • @unebonnevie

What's wrong with the Big Bang? How does such an origin in any way make existence any less amazing?

  • Absolutely wonderful! Every song she does is so beautiful and deep.

  • Loreena Mckennitt is beautiful.

  • @natash141 agreed!

  • The Lady of Shalott

  • Beautiful voice, wonderful storyteller

  • Beautiful, yet very eerie, especially the full version. Both the song and the poem.

  • to all the dislikes-this is not American Idol. You do not have to vote.Dont like this music? Go away quietly and enjoy whatever it is that fulfills your lofty standards

  • @Bohem401 Well said. Though I have to question their standards if they're disliking this. Loreena's vocals are ethereally gorgeous :) and no one can fault Tennyson. Mebbe the people who clicked "dislike" were just so mesmerised they missed the "like" button

  • 29 dislikes...By the strangest coincidence, that's exactly the same number of people who are unable to appreciate an artist like Loreena McKennit.

  • Usted está a tope feo.

  • ndg43 - umm... Duh - she dies in the song too. Are you sure you listened to, and understood, the entire thing before trying to show off your "poetic prose"?

  • she's the greatest one! this is my most fave from hers!!

  • aaa555555555 :S amazing i missed her concert in lebanon .

  • i like 29 people missed the "like" button.

    loving this

  • I saw her in concert. She and the band sound every bit as good as the studio recording. Quite amazing.

  • Exquisite. Loreena is a musical miracle.

  • I was listening to this (extended version) over the muzak in the grocery store where I regularly shop at, when I heard heard a clerk thinking out loud "Beautiful song, I wonder who the artist is." Having then recently started listening to it, I was glad to tell the clerk who it is :-)

  • Let There & Everywhere Be Light !

Peace, Love, Music & Rainbows !

Lot of SUN & happiness !

Let There Be The Lady of Shalott !

To All & Be Forever !

    Haw ! I said !

    ( : - )

  • Loreena looks so much like Helen Mirran -facially.

  • Amazing!

  • When my parents died, I had this song played at their funeral.

    Hauntingly beautiful!

A few years later, my son was born.

Having been a great admirer of the Arthurian stories longer than I can remember, we named him Mikail Lancelot.

  • @mdwilde88 God bless your parents' memory forever more and the child you gave birth to....that's a gorgeous name!

  • I Love you!

  • What I'm astonished by is that she sounds STUDIO quality but she's LIVE! Now THAT'S a great voice.

  • I first heard Loreena's songs during a Celtic festival in France - absolutely beautiful

  • I have never heard a voice like that :')

  • this is beautiful. it is amazing how she sings so well while playing a harp. I actually first read this poem in a manga caled camalot garden it was so sad yet i fell in love with the poem and looked up the full poem. it is just so moving. it makes me want to sing and cry

  • It makes you think...It makes you feel alive...It makes you cry....It makes you sad...It makes you happy. THAT, my friends is the hallmark of a true artist!!!

  • so beautiful

  • amazing voice - wonderful

  • ANGEL VOICE !!!!!!!!!!!

  • This has to be one of my favorite songs sung by her. Its so beautiful.

  • Beautifully sung, lovely music.

The words are from Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem, "The Lady of Shalott," from the 19th c.

Although this is sung beautifully, the actual poem doesn't end that well for the Lady--she dies. Many of the poem's verses are left out in the song so that it isn't as melancholy as the poem.

  • @ndg43

The CD recorded version (and in 2 CD lives at least) is the full version of Tennylson's poem, but in DVD/TV aired performances, Loreena usually plays the short version

  • @DrizztDeUrden Actually the Live disk and the Album versions are both slightly abreviated...

the poem talks more about the sights she sees in her mirror, as well as more about how she dies as she floats down the river

  • @ndg43

The CD recorded version (and in 2 CD lives at least) is the full version of Tennylson's poem, but in DVD/TV aired performances, Loreena usually plays the short version

  • @DrizztDeUrden & ndg43: Even Loreena's full versions do not include the entire Tennyson poem; the assertion that "many of the poem's verses are left out" is correct. However, I like Loreena's (full) version better than Tennyson's; the music is perfect; and I imagine Tennyson himself would agree.

  • @ndg43 The full version is 11:30 some on seconds, it is the entire poem by Tennyson and Loreena's voice is perfect in its ethereal and haunting beauty to render the poem to music. And it definitely does not end well for the Lady of Shalott, save that she is freed from this mortal coil and the curse the would keep her from truly enjoying life.

  • @ndg43 umm... Duh - she dies in the song too. Are you sure you listened to, and understood, the entire thing before trying to show off your "poetic prose"?

  • @ndg43 its such a sad poem. but thise song makes it beautiful. No, the SINGER makes it absolutely enchanting.

  • Yepp this version is cut and it strange to meet this after listening to full ballade.

Is for tolerance of smth? or for saving precious TV-minutes for adverts? - anyway somebody mixed thingh up/

beauty ballade. Even thooug I still don't understand many places.

  • this song is so moving i love it

  • Who is this and what is here.

  • I learned this poem in high school and our teacher, Mr. Peter Johnson, played this song for us. It is the closest thing to an angel's voice!

  • Full of wonderment my thoughts take flight.

  • She is incredible and sings anything with such ease, so graceful!!!

  • I have to agree with what FoxeatFox said.... It is really obvious she doesn't even need to try to be this good.

    Damn her! :)

  • Such talent and beautiful at that! She takes Tennyson's poem to a new level in this marvelous song. What inspiration, her musical ability to paint a picture in our minds with her exceptional talent is beyond explanation.

  • love loreena mckennitt!!!! poor lady of shalott....

  • Beautiful. Why can talentless acts fill stadiums while someone like Loreeena goes unnoticed by the masses! However I do like the fact that Loreena is my own little secret that no one knows about. Love her!

  • I love this song,,, Almost Magical. Thank you Barry...

  • This is exactly the way Tennyson would have wanted this poem interpreted musically. How do I know? Well, hard to say. He checked out of the hotel over a hundred years ago.

  • This is exactly the way Tennyson would want this poem interpreted musically. Too bad he checked out too early to hear Loreena sing it.

  • I have a small harp I built and inlaid. Oh if I could play this way. It moves me. How I live in my tower. I don't care about the critics who say it is 'airy fairy'. It is life. It is so beautiful.

  • I am so eternally greatful for both the writings and vision of Alfred Lord Tennyson's great works, and the angelic voice and sounds of Loreena and her troupe.

This music touches the soul and shows the beauty of which the human race is capable of... - Thank you so much...

  • This is my favourite poem ever! Tennyson was brilliant and this poem is amongst his best poems.

Thanks a lot for the beautiful song! :)

I'm very elated for listening to this magnificent poem sung by an equally magnificent singer.

  • I'm in heaven Sheer heaven!!!!

  • Thank you for showing this video. I really trust her about her song!

  • Its been shortened from the original hasn't it? darn I would have liked to hear her sing the whole thing in a concert.

  • if this isn't the most beautiful song in the history of western civilization... then i don't know what is !!!

  • nostalgia is. not this

  • This is indisputably, unequivocally my favourite song due to the exceptional delivery of this most gifted artist. Wow! I've listened to it for years and it still gives me shivers...

  • Tennyson was the guy that sang "Sixteen Tons". Tennyson Ernie Ford.

  • @duudsuufd you are kidding me, aren't you?

  • Alfred, Lord Tennyson
