Great video! I only have 1 question. I am recording in 720p and 60 fps. How should I set it so I dont loose all the fps when it says 720p and 25 fps? (I'm kinda new to this as you can see)
If you are using Vegas Movie Studio 10, then you may be able to manually change your frame rate when you go to "Render As - Customize" and set it to Double NTSC speed = 59.94 fps.
Sony AVC is the best codec to use for this.
You would typically use this for a BluRay Disc render.
However, the frame rate that your original footage was shot in, should match your render settings - otherwise you can experience Audio Sync problems and jittery playback.
Hi and thank you so much for your video this really helps a lot. I am using Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 but the problem I am having is that whenever I import a video to edit in the .mp4 format, I can only see the top left corner of the video but playing it on quicktime or windows media player I see the entire frame. The video files were created by a Haupauge HD PVR capture device. Is there something Im doing wrong? Im dropping the files on the time line but cant see the full frame.
@TemporalParadox1 Thank you very much and I really appreciate your reply...I have never heard of .m2ts file formats so I stayed away from it. I will be giving that a try if it works with Vegas then I am set to go. Once again thank you so much!!!
Hi there! I just installed this version of Sony Vegas and I'm trying to make an AMV and I was wondering how to cut pieces of the video out...like cutting out unimportant stuff and deleting it, while working on mini clips and putting them all together. Is there any way you can help me with this or give me any tips about making an AMV?
I NEED HELP PLEASE! whenever i render i dont get my clip i get a .mxf file that i cant open or its a text. i do not know how to fix it someone help please.
I followed your steps and I can't get my videos to play 720 on youtube. I am using a GoPro camera and the video files are mp4, but I do not know what it is that I am doing wrong. I am using sony vegas pro 10.0, not the platinum one that you have. any help is appreciated.
All your Vegas files by default should live in your Documents folder.
There will be an auto-generated Vegas Movie Studio Project folder - and then inside that further folders.
The best way to keep track of your stuff is to always start NEW Projects with the New Project Wizard and to Name & click "Manage Project Files" inside the wizard.
I hope you can help me...I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9.0 and I will not let me drag and use MP4 video from my GoPro camera. How can I make my editing software use these MP4 video? Do I have to change the format or get it rendered into a acceptable format? If so, how do I do that? Anyhow help you can give would be great!!
#1 Make sure you have the latest version of Apple Quicktime installed to make MP4's work properly.
#2 All GoPro users can download for free the "Cineform" video codec - you can convert your GoPro video into Cineform to edit with. I talked about this in a video - 7th last video I made.
#3 Probably a good time to upgrade to Movie Studio 11 - you can buy at special upgrade price through Sony Creative Software. V11 is better suited for 60fps video like the GoPro makes.
Thank you very much, I needed to change my normal .avi to mp4 instead of wmv (send to an editor who is a mac user) and this was exactly what I needed, very easy to follow, clear instructions. :)
I just ran out of Sony Vegas Pro 10's month trial, so I did the Movie Studio 11. I had good rendering settings for Vegas Pro 10, will it be just as good as Movie Studio 11, or will there be a difference? For reference I upload gaming videos recorded with an HD PVR.
Thanks mate!

MrPraktikantzen 3 weeks ago
@MrPraktikantzen
60 fps is better converted to 30 fps (or 29.97fps in real terms).
So set your project to 29.97 fps.
Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 now has added support for 50 and 60 fps video in the project properties.
If you are making a YT video, then there is no point to rendering at 60fps, because YT is going to re-render it down to 30fps anyway.
The advantage of 60 fps, is that you can then slow it down for "slo-mo" shots, and it then maintains it's smoothness.

Oh okey I see. Any idea why YT cuts the fps down to 30? Thanks for your help and quick reply :)

It's the Internet - bandwidth and download speeds are important.
HD Video takes long enough already, doubling the amount of data would start to make watching video for most people impossible.
One day when the world is 100% Optic Fibre at 1000MBps, things might be different.

if i'am in uk do i change profile to main and entropy to CABAC
GamingMan96 1 month ago
@GamingMan96
Living in the UK has nothing to do with these settings.
Leave them on default.
The only setting specific to UK is the frame rate.
PAL = 25fps
TemporalParadox1 1 month ago
@TemporalParadox1 but if i wont can i change it to 29

You can do what ever you like.
However, the frame rate that your original footage was shot in, should match your render settings - otherwise you can experience Audio Sync problems and jittery playback.

@madskizophrenik
The problem is with the type of codec that Hauppage is using - it has been tweeked.
The solution is to record to .m2ts format instead - this will definitely work in Vegas.
You are not alone with this problem.

@madskizophrenik
Basically, .m2ts video files are often what BluRay Discs use for High Quality Video.
To play them back relatively smoothly in Vegas, you will need to have a decent computer with a good CPU.
.m2ts files are definitely supported by Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum and Vegas Pro.

Just press "S" for split to make a cut, and right-click to delete pieces.
I did make a video about basic editing tips - which has good information in it, but I sound absolutely terrible with my voice.
I am making a new editing tips video in the next couple of days.

What version of Vegas are you using.
It sounds like to me you are using Vegas Pro 11 and have selected Sony MXF profile.
I have created rendering videos of all versions - use the search box on my channel and you will find them.

I made a tutorial version for Vegas Pro 10 users.
Watch that instead of this one, otherwise there might be some confusion.
Type "720p pro" into the Search Box on my channel to find the right video.

will this make my dazzles quality good and will it be full screen co when i render in 720p there's black sides then video i don't want that
MrScaryGhosts 5 months ago
@MrScaryGhosts
The quality of the finished video is only as good as the original "dazzle" recording.
I have made a video showing people how to remove "the black bars" from Gameplay videos.

Movie Studio and Vegas Pro are built around the same engine.
So you have the same rendering ability, minus a few technical settings which only advanced Pro users would use or understand.
I am uploading new tutorials on how to render in version 11 of MS very, very soon.
