Even though I was hoping for to hear another new song from U2s new album but I love Beautiful Day, makes me smile from ear to ear, and it always brings to mind the beautiful day I spent at Slane Castle in 2001! I couldn't disagree more.  ATYCLB was them going "back to basics" and setting the stage for the next phase. HTDAAB moved them into the experimental realm a bit, and this is the album that was begging to be made after Achtung Baby. Beautiful Day, though, is as classic as any U2 song and translates fantastically live. The audience always swells with emotion from the beginning to the end.

Okay, this is how it is... At first when I heard they did Beautiful Day on the 4th night of U2 week I was kind of disappointed, expecting a new song and everything, but then you get to those beautifully changed lyrics and the audience going absolutely crazy towards the end I had to surrender to this...un-fuckin-believebly great.. and now that the best talk show host ever has joined them (LOL Dave ;-) who can ever beat these living legends!!!! Amazing!

I don't know how, but Bono's singing SO much better than he was 2/3 years ago. In fact, his voice is probably in better shape than at any time in the last 15 years or so. So good to see (or hear actually).

He's sounding good, but there's no way his voice is better than the 3rd leg of Vertigo at the end of 2005. There are plenty of examples all over Youtube where you can listen to how great he sounded then.

i can't get over how good it is, i won every U2 album and my expectations were quite low coz i HATED All That You Can't Leave Behind and thought that How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb was decent, but this new album is EXCELLENT.

ATYCLB wasn't a classic overall, but I think you'd have to agree that Kite is a fantastic song and almost worth the price of the album in itself. The quatrain "In summer I can taste the salt of the sea/There's a kite blowing out of control on a breeze/I wonder what's gonna happen to you/You wonder what has happened to me" is one of the most touching and poignant of U2's lyrics I reckon. This new album makes me wonder if this is what Pop would/should have been like if they'd done it properly.

i dunno what it is, but i just don't like ATYCLB at all. it just sounds to me like it was them trying to hard to sound like all the other popular bands at the time.

but the reason why i loved Pop coz it was just them being original.

You are right in that Pop had moments of brilliant innovation and originality, but it was underdone and U2 knew it and probably regretted it as soon as it was released. They haven't repeated the mistake this time. They've waited until NLOTH was ready and complete and now we have an amazing album to enjoy that will translate fantastically well to the tour arena. U2 look very confident about where they're at now, and they also look proud of this new work. As well they should be.
