The Marius in this tour cast is MUCH better trained and obviously has some professional music theater training (and possibly some opera too...Nick Jonas DEFINNITELY doesn't have opera training.) Honestly, I think the only reason why they got NIck Jonas was to get younger fans to buy the DVDs.
I wouldn't say he should stay away from music theater entirely. He'd be good in Hairspray or possibly Wicked. But not Les Mis or Phantom, classical training or not.
I saw Les Miz yesterday and it was AMAZING!!! I think there was a different cossete than this one though. Either way they all sound fantastic!
