Wow, I'm glad I stumbled upon this video. I'm the guy that launched you at Maui Sunset(I'm standing on the grass with my arms folded at the beginning of your video). I wondered if you ever made it. When you told me you were planning on kiting to Lanai, I was puzzled and asked "what are you going to do when you hit the huge wind shadow behind the west maui mountains"?. I guess I just found out the answer ...float to Kahoolawe! Ha ha, glad to find out you two are alive!
@esgeddes Yes, we made it to Kahoolawe! We were not planning on landing their, but at least we were well prepared just in case anything happened. We were armed with an Epirb, VHF Radio, water proof cell phone, and plenty of food and water.
It was a little intense when the wind literally shut off. I honestly thought I was going to be eaten by a shark. But I found out we were more likely to explode with the unexploded land mines on Kahoolawe. Awesome!
I'd also like to emphasize that landing on Kahoolawe was the last thing we ever wanted to do, but we wouldn't have survived the night on the water. Thank you KIRC!
I can't believe our rescue boat broke down. I actually thought something was going to eat me when the wind died. We were literally trolling in some of the most shark infested waters in the Hawaiian Islands.

Hopefully, we'll make it next time.

Thanks for editing the footage, I just tried to keep my head above water mentally and physically when we were bobbing in the deep blue with no wind.
Thanks KIRC, we were about out of water and cliff bars.
Stay tuned for the successful crossing soon to come.
