Nibbler "technique" should probably be refrained from as it may cause gingival trauma not to mention plaque buildup subgingivally. Either brush with bristles moving coronally like the rolling stroke or side to side like the stillman or bass methods. Fones method (toothbrushing in circles) is not ideal for the average person with good dexterity as it is not as thorough and may also cause gingival recession when one brushes with too much pressure. Hope this helps.
guys i have a problem...i went to the dentist the other day and not only are my gums red, but the lower parts front teeth are showing a faded area, which I find distinct. how do I get rid of the redness, and is there any way of strengthening the faded areas or is it a permanent thing?
@DanielleT192 hi im actually goign to school to be a dental assistant and ill be done in about 3 months but the reason u have red gums is because the pockets that hold ur teeth have bacteria. this is the cause of red and puffy gums. Flossing regularly will eliminate this and please dont go back and forth all that does is keep this bacteria there u want to do an up and down motion. Note that there will be some bleedding the first couple of times but the more u do it you wont bleed anymore
@DanielleT192 Also the fading area is normal especially if u eat alot of acidic foods such as lemons and chili. this is a permanent thing but you can help strengthen teeth by using a toothpaste or mouthwash with flouride. I promise you if you do this you will see a dramatic difference. please try to brush 2x a day and floss everyday i recommend oral B glide floss because it fits in the cracks of tight teeth easier i hope this helps and good luck
lol a dentist i had seen once had told me different things,of course she sucks! and can i ask something important for me?How many teeth should a human have? is it a standard number,or it differs per person ??
@ArtistWoOoOo normally it's 28 (7+7 on the bottom jaw and 7+7 on the upper jaw). however, 1-4 wisdom teeth may grow sideways (and sometimes even more), so normally it ranges from 28 to 32
my teeth are packed so closely together i cannot even get the floss between them. when I do finally get it through with great force, I end up cutting my gums.
Good comment, for the past 3 months my teeth have been bleeding when I clean them 3 weeks ago I couldnt open my mouth enough to eat from a spoon i caught swine flu this week i finally got to go to the dentist to find i got infected gums were my wisdom tooth is (Last tooth at far back of your mouth) so clearly not cleaning them right, I got floss to help but there is no way of getting between them and its complicated to use - i dont force it thou, I just brush and use mouth wash
It's AWESOME that you are brushing and using mouth wash - that will help a lot!
It's really important to also use floss or SOMETHING to get between your teeth and under your gums where the toothbrush and mouth wash can't reach. If not, it can cause some major problems in the future.
See my reply above about other options for cleaning your gums-- also, you can ask your hygienist or dentist for tips on other ways to clean those areas without having to deal with floss (though floss is best! :)
Flossing is tough enough as it is, but especially with tight contacts!
You can purchase something like Superfloss at the store that is very strong and flat to get through easier. You could also try a floss threader and "thread" it through to avoid having to force it between a tight contact.
Bacteria can get under the gums and cause problems which is why we floss- to remove it. If flossing is too difficult, try other options like an oral irrigator (WaterPik) or interproximal brushes.
@orangedac I'm no professional, but I've been told if you don't floss regularly, it's normal for your gums to bleed a little the first few times you do it. As for the space problem, are you trying to force it directly down? It's better to use a back-and-forth motion to gently work your way in. If you haven't had a professional cleaning lately, you might have tartar built up between the teeth, making it narrower. Either way, you should probably see a dentist. Oral hygiene affects general health.
@orangedac Flossing is very important, and may even be more important than brushing since cleansing is done naturally when we eat (flat outer surfaces of teeth) but not the areas that are flossed. Floss at the very least once a day, preferably before bedtime. Waxed flossed is less resistant to shredding and reduces friction.
Follow this youtube video closely and you will not likely cut your gums anymore.
yeah- try a good quality toothbrush like Oral B or Sonicare. They cost extra, but they work fantastic! They do all the work for you! And they have small heads available :) I had the same problem.
Can someone help ME!! My ortho told me that my teeth were fine but i needed to brush and floss everyday and not skiping a day and of course not eating to much teeth damaging foods. But he told me also tht once my gums get light pink colored then it will mean that they are perfect. Though the prblem is whenever I brush and floss, i have the senstion my teeth feel tight and weird..is it normal?
Also, people told me it's normal for the teeth to feel weird after something ''like floss' been between them. So if someone that is nice enough to help me and tell me if those teeth weird feelings after brushing are normal, my gus are like my dentist and every dentist in the world recommend to be pale pink.
The reason it's normal to feel 'weird' is because your body is not used to it. If you do it daily and make it a habit, your gums will heal and tighten and it should feel fine after time.
Pale pink color = healthy. When gums are red and bleed it means your body is trying to fight against an infection. Bacteria gets under your gums and causes disease and your body increases it's blood flow to fight back. Since there is more blood in the area, it appears red.
Thank you very much it's useful to me. I brush regularly and floss at the end of everyday. Though I have a problem with yellow-ish teeth, and bad breath.. listerine helps? Is it safe?
Every dentist has a different story im tired of this my dentist be telling me half truths and then another dentist tell me their wrong come on i need them pearly whites
Really good video. He brings up two tips I'd never heard of: alternating your starting points (to avoid enamel abrasion and gum tearing), and shifting your jaw to the side to let the toothbrush get in past the jawbone. Very smart tips. Thank you very much for explaining everything in simple terms. Best wishes.
god dammit for 16 years I've been brushing my teeth incorrectly.. I was when I was like 3-4 years old was going to brush my teeth how you showed it.. but a dentist told me NO never do LEFT to right motion.. only do up and down motion.. and for 15 years I've been doing up to down motion.. and now.. my teeth ad mad yellow hell I brush em 2 times a day too.. really depressing.
na...... i use now baking soda to brush em.. they turn soooo clean that they are near the breaking point... so i dont over use it.. but they don't get whiter.. they are stained for life.. I gotta bleach em somehow.. idk how..
Careful--baking soda will make them really weak. If you don't see they are getting whiter with it, switch back to a normal fluoride toothpaste to help make them strong. Talk to your dentist about bleach trays- they work great! But avoid paying extra for the purple light or zoom light- it's just a way to make more money. The more bleach you use, the more sensitive your teeth will be! So use a sensitivity toothpaste and fluoride rinse to keep them strong and comfortable :)
All you stupid fucking cunts complaining about this video need to shut the fuck up before I fuck your ass's up. Good video video that shows you how to brush properly.
Useing a cloth or a towel around your finger and rubing your teeth inside and out side the walls of your teeth help clean it? then chew some trident and dentyne gum after help do anything ? somebody tell me
ANYTHING that is physically removing bacteria from your teeth and gums will HELP (using a cloth or towel and rubbing) and is better than nothing at all, but a toothbrush and floss is best because it fits the shape of your teeth best to get rid of all the bugs and bacteria. Gum is good because it helps get your saliva flowing and cleans out sugar/food. Be sure to use sugar-free. Gum with xylitol actually helps make your teeth stronger! Do not use gum as a substitute for brushing though. :)

it'll only feel like that for a few flossing sessions, should ease up eventually.
anus419 2 years ago
The reason it's normal to feel 'weird' is because your body is not used to it. If you do it daily and make it a habit, your gums will heal and tighten and it should feel fine after time.
Pale pink color = healthy. When gums are red and bleed it means your body is trying to fight against an infection. Bacteria gets under your gums and causes disease and your body increases it's blood flow to fight back. Since there is more blood in the area, it appears red.
Brush/floss= removes bacteria
