Always been a fan of Erics songs. I now live 6 miles from his home town of Peebles in Scotland. Last year the last concert of his UK part of his last world tour, was in his home town. It was very moving.
Dec. 11, 1997, Ted Mathews, "The last link with the most defining moment in Australian history has been broke" PM John Howard. Ted was the last of the original first day landers. 11,410 of 16,000 were casualties. "Some people say it glorifies war, that is wrong. You don't forget your mates who faught with you, lived with you, and died by you." Ted Mathews supporting Gallipoli commemoration on Anzac Day. The last line of Eric's song has come to pass.

We should really make Tony Blair et alia listen to this song every day for the rest of their lives. Might make them realise what war is all about -- not an exercise in keeping sweet with the USA. Looking forward to hearing Eric in person later this month in Aberdeen.
This always brings tears to my eyes, the sacrifice of these brave men and boys,is why i live in a free country. For that i am forever grateful.

Australia's last Digger went to his final resting place last year; thank you, Eric, for writing such a fitting epitaph.
