does it really matter what brand pulleys you get. cus theres 4 different brands on americanmuscle. roush's pulleys are on sale for 199.00 steedas is 214.00 and another off brand is 159.00
do these add more horsepower? if so how much? and also im looking for a way to get more horse power but to not loose to much mpg. i have an 01 3.8L with a fenderwell coild air intake and re-enforced headers
@DIENAMICProductions No not really. Pulleys reduce drag on an engine which will help free up torque and create a faster throttle response time. The smaller the pulley the less the drag the more tq you have. That is how s/c get more boost by using smaller pulleys. How they gain more hp is by more air volume. More air+fuel = more power.
Hi, during the crank portion, you say to seat it with the longer bolt, then remove and use the shorter bolt and tighten it to 66 lbs. You then state to back the bolt off a full turn (360 degrees), and then reset the torque wrench to 37 lbs. But then you say to use a breaker bar to tighten the bolt an additional 90 degrees. Could you please elaborate on this? Do you tighten the 360 degrees (that you previously backed off) with the torque wrench at 37 lb then use the breaker bar?
@punksk8r4lif should be very very similar process if not identical. I imagine the actual parts may be a little different as there are different water pulleys on the 2001 Mustangs and other variations in the Ford family.
@AutoHowTV i have a 2004 mustang automatic v6 3.8 and i want to install new bbk chrome pulleys is it the same to install as in this video even the torqueing procedure
@Drifterzz89 Roush is a reputable company so you should be fine. I haven't looked into pulleys on the S197s but I am sure there are reviews out there on the forums.
im jus getting into tuning and i heard that an aftermarket pulley will increase power output. is it the underdrive pulley or the idle pulley? and if its true wat brand wud u recommend? i have an f22b2 sohc
@CH33Z3B4LL3R dont do it its stupid you wont notice it and can really f up ur engine slows water pump alt steering its stupid plus you loose dampening for critical rpms that can rattle or blow ur engine apart
I can agree that as new engines come out and become finer tuned pulleys will be less reliable.
If you do go with a pulley system it is important that you get one that's balanced. I am not familiar with the Hondas as much but I am sure forums have figured out what's best. With 4 cyl engines you may see some of the side effects (dim lights) mentioned by jdhinds
yeah, I get the same problem. I will have to look into this or upload a new version. In the meantime the video on my site is much better. link is in the description...
What size socket is used when moving the tensionor? I'm having trouble with my 02 V6, because I'm trying a 1/2 inch drive, but it does not seem to fit and there is hardly any room to move it even if I was using the correct size. Is your's a 1/4 inch drive? Thanks
Great videos, keep up the good work. Can someone help my. I own a 03 mustang GT with to many mods to list. the only thing I don't like is the fact of my stang been an automatic and I want to swap the transmition to standard. I thank you for any help I can get.
I don't know anyone personally that has done a swap like that on a Mustang (only on a Honda Prelude). Anything's possible really...try a search on the Mustang forums like stangnet, allordmustangs and corral. I am sure someone has experience with the idea.
Thank you very much for taking the time and answer my question. I'll use the information youy send my and let you know if this swap is possible. Keep up the great work.
If you floor it in a high gear like 3rd or 4th and you see the tachometer moving up but you feel like you aren't going quite as fast as you should be then it may be time. That's always an easy way to tell if a clutch is slipping. I am not sure what year you have and if that's hp to the wheels, etc.
You had me thinking for a bit, but I would have to disagree.
Think of it like this: it would take a huge amount of torque for a car to drive off in 4 gear from a stop. So if you are turning the engine by hand it's the same thing...harder to move the car when in a higher gear.
Crap messed up sry, anyway the audio for the vid is messed up. BTW I was typing on a crappy smart phone while trying to install the pulleys.

@wonderbreadkw No the weight and size of the pulley matter. Brand cost more money.

If your main seals are good there should be no oil even touching the keyway. Plus the pulley does not seal the oil in anyway.

I kind of have my hands full with the new 'Maintain Your Mustang' DVD coming out (check the site) and a couple other install videos...
I will definitely keep it in mind though! Feel free to email me if you can't find decent written instructions.
