Doctor McCoy is the worst medical officer in all of Star Trek (OH NO YOU DIDN'T JEDISPY!!!!!11!!1111!!ONE). Hear me out on this. One of his most common lines is “He's dead Jim”. The human brain can live for a few minutes once it stops receiving oxygen. Usually McCoy says "he's dead' mere seconds after injury occurs, often only checking the pulse of the injured individual. He never makes any attempt to resuscitate, and never calls for emergency medical transport to sick bay.

@jedispy -- It's not really Dr. McCoy's fault; it's whoever selected that particular RED fabric for the uniforms those people were wearing. It took them hundreds of Stardates (somewhere between TMP and II - WoK) before they found the red dye was lethal to humanoids, and would kill the wearer upon ANY injury. ("OW! I've got a hangnail! Of all the times t- URK!!")

Of course, once the found a suitable replacement red dye, they just used it for damn near ALL of the Starfleet uniforms . . .
