  • I've been listen to this track for three days straight... jeez this is soo sick. Yes the greatest band and voice of all time. Sorry Beatles, Sorry Pink Floyd, Sorry Van Halen. Sorry Sting haha Love all you guys but she's the best.

  • never understood how people go mad over biork when a genius like liz fraser is not as well known.

  • If Liz Fraser is singing then you know it's going to be amazing.

  • man utds brian mclair once declared he was in heaven whilst at a twins concert and a football player in heaven says a lot about the music........

  • Long time fan here, "summerhead" and "pink orange red" are probably among my top favorites.

  • love this version, absolutely superior to the recorded version, lizzys vocal is so much better, much more passion and the music is much punchier

  • does anyone know why they are called twins? is she a twin to one of the boys? also, is she only female in band? cuz i could swear im hearing 2 thanx

  • @TheParamountPrincess - no twins, just the name, and she was the only woman, they must have cheated with some pre recorded backing vocals.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheParamountPrincess

Robin Guthrie (the founding member) heard a "Simple Minds" song, their debut album "Life in a Day", which had a song called "No Cure." In the lyrics there is the phrase - Cocteau Twins - refering to a gay relationship - but that's not the point. The name sort of stuck in Guthrie's mind - and it had no real specific reason. Now I'm probably gonna get tons of people whining about it's inaccuracy. Don't bother - I've been a fan since 1983, I know better than most people.

  • does anyone know why they are called twins? is she a twin to one of the boys? thanx

  • Thanks for posting. In an ideal world the BBC would routinely repeat such classics on their digital channels instead of endless re-runs of Formula 1 or snooker. Hey ho, what do I know. Instead they chose to repeat TOTP from 1976- bizarre.Great to see it here anyway.

  • This is a great example of more is less. Get rid of the 2 extra guitarists, the drummer, the percussionist and I might listen. They were out-on-their-own, mesmerising as a trio and this is embarrassing, easy-listening.

  • SHE is so utterly beautiful.

  • Some of the happiest times in my life had the Cocteau Twins swirling around in the background - they're unique!

  • Music is music. Beauty is beauty. This is music. This is beautiful.

  • so so so good

  • mind blowing :m

  • If there were sirens, then they would sing this way! Simply amazing!

  • louder

  • what i would do to see them live.... SNIFF....

  • So much love 4 Elizabeth ... my ALL TIME FAVORITE singer ... ure MAGICIAN!!!

  • Safe... at last... seeing my thoughts in order. Safe, fallen doubt... may I burn bridges no more.

    Or something like that.

  • i heard she could talk to dolphins

  • @ablazex07 The dolphins asked to speak to liz

  • great band..but the presenter's voice was really irritatin...can anybody also point me who her husband is....

  • @nirvan1111111 they were never married, but she and robin guthrie (the pudgy guitarist with the beard) had a daughter together, lucy belle.

  • great band..but the presenter's voice was really irritatin...

  • No, i just saw them at the festival hall and suggested a video idea to her but we never made it.

i last heard she was living in brighton but was quite ill. that was 4 years ago i know nothing now except she grew up in grangemouth on the other side of the river forth from me, i could see their lights and as an infant would wave goodnight to the children in grangemouth every night, she being one of them. she found that quite funny when i told her.

its hard to live without liz.!

    please come back !

  • and her improvisations are better than 99% of other people's compositions!

    just pure magic!

  • 1) Young Jools Holland! :OO

    2) Cocteau Twins - no playback guaranteed! <3

    3) Ecstatic!

  • missing Ms Fraser pretty hard right about now...

    ;(

    :

    .

  • lindo demais

  • i saw that festival hall shows he mentioned. the sound was beyond beautiful and i even got to meet the siren herself. adorable. i proposed to do a video of her naked riding on a dolphins back. she just laughed and said 'i cant swim' i said 'dont worry the dolphin can !' come back liz we all love you.

  • i saw that festival hall shows he mentioned. the sound was beyond beautiful and i even got to meet the siren herself. adorable. come back liz we all love you.

  • @customofthesea did you find any video from the festival youd mentioned ?? thanks

  • There is simply on-one who sounds like this band. Lush came close, but lacked the mystery and gravitas. Saw the Cocteau Twins live twice and found them absolutely mesmerising. Nothing to look at as such, just 7 statues on a stage, and yet completely captivating. Decades into the use of electricity in music, and still there is nothing that compares to Elizabeth.

  • I love her live improvising.

  • VERY good performance even though Liz was going through a nervous breakdown at this point :D

  • Chciałbym być choć raz w swoim marnym życiu na Twoim koncercie.....Elizabeth jesteś porywająca razem z Robinem i resztą grupy..... I LOVE YOU VOICE ,DRUMS,GUITAR,EWERYTHING .....sorry my grama writing

  • Fantastic. I review Cocteau Twins' whole discography, see my channel.

  • wow "the voice of God!"

  • In the days when you were hopelessly poor, I just like you more.

  • Its Beautiful and complex on multiple levels and multiple dimensions,Stupid people don't usually go for this music .

  • simply amazing

arguably the best band of all time

  • I used to go out with a girl called Carolyn (she had fingers). When I asked, she always said - LATER.

  • im a very lucky man who have seen the cocteaus live many times and they were never anything less than superb every time

  • one of my life's greatest moments was seeing them live in boston. i spent the entire concert in overwhelming tears.

  • @SirBounder you are right to some extent, but mind you she did have some issues in the past that led to a loss of some vocal range. I'll put the question to you (or anyone else): does she rock any less?

  • EXCELENTE !!

  • i know I can't comment on all their songs so i won't try. i love this though... shes amazing and i get emotional around this band. i hope they never leave us. i need them in my life. I really like Que's comment very very much. It's beautiful. :)

  • i still remember the only live concert of them i ve ever seen in 1990 in cologne

  • yeah, your grandmother was right-BEAUTIFUL MUSIC!

  • le son et pourri mais quel voix !

  • What a weak voice she has live- quite pathetic!

  • wonder what you sound like singing? ive just dropped a turd and that is your vocal range mon grand poo

  • Oh My Goddess!!! This Vid is so awesome. Really I am gushing here, but they were just so awesome, and I envy the lucky (smart) ones who saw them, especially in the 90's. It looks like they were supported by a whole band here, PROPER!! Liz is the Goddess' sister!

  • great!

  • FANTASTIC, I LOVE COTEAU TWINS

  • Oh so beautiful...!!!

  • robin guthrie..legend!!!

  • I agree with another user of another video xD liz could comunnicate with dolphins :)

  • This is AMAZING.

    How Liz improvises is unbelievable

  • not to be shallow, but liz is really hot here ; )

  • @jcfbell3001 Shallow bastard!

  • @MisAnnThorpe

    yes...she is rather fetching, tho

  • mp3iiiiify is the best site to get this mp3. google mp3iiiiify.

  • I don't know anyone who don't like Cocteau's music, even in november 1997, my grandmother said to me when she was walking near of my bedroom: 'whatta beatiful music you use to hear, son...' I was surprised... LOL. But yeah, that was the truth.

    Great fucking band.

  • What a great story!

    Great Grandma!

  • @Quepedoporquenoentra - my grandmother is evil. she hates the twins.

  • @Quepedoporquenoentra My mom thinks the same! she always says to me: Oh... that sweet fairy voice and those magic sounds are really perfect, whats that band?. My father listens to Jazz and he thinks Cocteau Twins is one of the best bands in the world, specially for the musicians. My cousin is doctor and he thinks that listenning to "heaven or las vegas" or "four calendar café" in the work time, its the best cure for the pain. I dunno too anyone who cant love this band! cheers mate ^^

  • @Quepedoporquenoentra one of the best...bullet proof talent, man!!!

  • @Quepedoporquenoentra nice touch my fellow cocteaus lover, they to me are are the greatest contemporary band that ever produced music, they are beautifully crafted melodic ethereal harmonious tunesmiths, free of ego yet emotive and enigmatic, i laugh and cry to their music it becomes very peronal. as you wisely say Great Fucking Band ;)

  • @Quepedoporquenoentra so true, ethereal enigmatic harmonious melodic tunesmiths free of ego, yep graet fucking band ;)

  • @Quepedoporquenoentra ...hi bud im 50 now and im still in love with the cocteau twins ..my mum is 73 and she still ask me to put some on..lol brilliant music...i was lucky in the very early 80s to see this band ....

  • @Quepedoporquenoentra What a beautiful to share with your grandmother. That made me tear up a bit. :)

  • @Quepedoporquenoentra Incredible....god bless your family!

  • @Quepedoporquenoentra Grandma's cooler than the Fonz. She's got great taste in music. :)

  • One of those bands of the highest order, that smash through the ridiculous elitist "indie" tag - render it useless. Just quality, accomplished music that deserves to be in every CD rack in the world.

  • Good to see mitsuo Tate in action too!!

This is absolutely amazing. I never knew they did this!!

  • @Trustney Im sure this reads better in whatever language you normally speak. As it is though, it's really rather incomprehensible

  • Cocteau Twins - bongo players. What is going on???????

  • I think those are timbales.

  • AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL !!

  • omg!!!!

  • precioso

  • WOW ILOVE Cocteu TwiNs I LOVE all editonS of 4AD *****

    CHeeRs from AMSTERDAM

    INcredibLe space

  • This makes the face on the Cotdail channel get all teary.

  • Oh her voice!

  • fantastic, sent shivers down my spine :D

  • @thetattytruth Me too!

  • @thetattytruth Me too!!! I know it's been over a year since you left this message. But, this is such a gem of a video. And, LIz is beyond words. I envy the people who saw them in this form--fully realized, with a whole band of musicians to support them.

  • Guthrie ... :-)

    PS

It that Ted Chau from PIL on second electric gutar?!

  • It's Mitsuo Tate on backing guitar

  • Maravillosa canción

  • good memories of my youth

wow they sound great and Brilliant

    Guthrie is great

  • Obscenely Beautiful & Utterly Brilliant

  • I think I saw them at their best. Confident and overpowering on their Heaven or Las Vegas tour in Chicago. This is feeble in comparison.

  • Guthrie needed all the help he could get.. he was waaayy on drugz....

  • fantastic performance but the lead vocal is mixed too far away

    a pitty

  • Simply amazing...DAMN!!

  • check out robin.. he's rockin out man.. ha..

  • Not sure this works at all, been listening to the Cocteaus for 20 years, they are the best band ever of course, but Guthrie doesnt need help

  • I like Guthrie's guitar playing style. Amazing song...

  • bellisima canción!!!

  • Is that Lincoln Fong ex of Moose next to Simon Raymonde.

I love her singing on this except those 'Wubba-wubba-wubba's!!.

  • This is awsome.

  • Oh Liz Frazer!!!

  • bubbabubbabubba

  • Non è possibile che una voce umana possa così elevarsi fino a raggiungere le vette più alte dell'universo.sento che essa penetra nelle profondità della mente con la leggerezza di una farfalla,ma resta incisa in essa indelebilmente.

  • I wish they performed like that on Len*. That really packed a whallop that would have KO'd the average American. The big band worked, it's a wall of sound thing, and Liz comes through it like a fog cutter. Magnificant clip.

  • I love this track. But disturbingly she looks very much like Shaun Ryder on the close ups! You must look carefully to appreciate this fact. Great tune; good memories.

  • LOL! That is so true about Shaun Ryder!!

  • Ok a little maybe, not much in it though, Shaun Ryder is a very ugly looking man sorry to say. Liz Fraser is far from ugly and you can not really compare this sorry. I really fancied Liz when she sang on Pearly dewdrop drop's on the grey whistle test.

  • i love you liz fraser

  • I know group from 1984!!!!! I am not English, I know her voice and sound of gitares which I will recognised everywhere. You don't know wha you have!!!!

  • Genius, the voice of God etc. One of my favourite Cocteaus songs.

  • its like audio code hacking into your brain !

  • I'm crying...

  • this is one of the best songs i have ever heard.

  • This is my favorite song of theirs by far ... the base and lead are brilliant! It translates live quite nicely but I still favor the album version for the pureness of the base and lead, plus the movements are more transcendent. Whoever mastered that track is a sonic alchemist!

  • Sublime.... cyb3rso, you're so right....

  • Wow the full band really suited them well. Love the two drummers too

  • although she will probably nover grace the pages of any fashion magazine, she seems the sexiest woman on earth to me in this vid:::)

  • Wonderful performance, Liz is fabulous here. Thank you for sharing!

  • God Jools Holland is an unbearable wanker!

  • Liz is such a woman

  • That's Antony Hegarty on guitar from Antony & the Johnsons! I saw him on the Culture Show the other evening and he was talking about the Cocteau's and it brought back memories of them so thought I'd check them out - they were obviously amazing.

  • That is so NOT Antony. Sorry. He was a fan not a band member!

  • quite possibly the most uplifting melodic feel good ecstatic sensory sensation of a song ever written

evokes brain memories I am not are mine...emotion-stacked...but its not about anything but movement and travelling through space or something... help!!! ITS GREAT

Where can we get a hifi recording ????

  • Just Amazing, my friends the Cocteau's!!!

    Best Wishes to you all!!

  • I know, I'm just taking the piss !

  • Why is the download of this video sooo slow?

  • Por equivocaciòn comprè el Four Calendar Cafe en el mismìsimo 1994; nunca había escuchado a los Cocteau... lleguè a la casa, puse el disco y desde ese momento se convirtiò en la mejor banda del mundo para mì.

  • exccuse me? They never had another singer. :|

  • I have always loved the Cocteaus from Garlands to Bluebeard, but especially Victorialand, saw them on a few occasions and best when they toured with the Heaven or Las Vegas album as an 18 year old in Glasgow Barras 1990(?), less so when they joined with Seefeel for more ambient stuff but still fine.

However I saw this recordin on TV at the time and although I knew Liz's vocal for years I thought the she might have taken things a bit far here, kind of a characterture of the her singing style.

  • She was never good live. Except maybe in the beginnings. I don't understand why she kept improvising all sorst of vowels and rhythms instead of following the much more controlled singing of the albums. She's definitely an artist for the studio. Not comfortable in public.

  • I used to think the same, but I guess she does that, precisely because she don't want to be like the other bands, instead she offers some kind of alternative version of the song and to show her concept, so you cannot hear the same material you've already bought, if you did. I've always said that this kind of music is NOT made for concerts or live performances, imagine to sing the same over and over again, I would get bored of my own work if I did that, and so, it'll lost all meaning and concept.

  • Yeah, she does this on purpose dude. She is actually very talented live. But this is her way of saying FU to all those bands that sing the song the same way live as it is on the album. Most are with you (including me) and dont like how she does her improv, but this is actually what makes her as talented as she is. All intentional and planned. She is still a siren and set the standard.

  • que bien sonaban dios mio ...

  • I love The Cocteau Twins and I love you all for loving them. This is a special relationship isn't it. I hope they come back someday.

  • I spoke to Robin Guthrie via MySpace, and he told me that there is no way that The Cocteau's would re-unite. I know, we are all sad...His exact words were, "Why would I?" They are and will be missed...

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I love this song x

  • This song is my ringtone, Love it!

  • It's fine that it is your rrrrrringtone, but the story of the songs go much deeper of course.

  • thats why its my ringtone, im in love with this song en the depth of it. So i can hear it more often than i already do.

  • Does anyone know the type of guitar Robin is playing here? Would greatly appreciate it!

  • According to a guitar gear site: "his setup circa 1990 was: paul reed smith guitar> boss exciter> boss chorus> yamaha d1500 delay> harmonizer> boss phaser> boss hi-band flanger> boss flanger> boss vibrato> volume pedal> cry baby wah> another delay> pair of rivera combos"
  • I'm a bit of o guitar geek, and i have to say I dont recognise Robin's guitar here. However, it's not a Paul Reed Smith as in the reply from gazboid. Dont know if that helps.....

  • I'm going to guess it's a custom instrument. The headstock is like a late 60's Yamaha SG-5A and the body is like a reverse Jaguar as Jaguars and Jazzmasters were generally favored/played. Totally cool gold-leaf finish on the body!

  • Me encanta el sonido en vivo!

    lo maximo los Cocteau!

  • Einsteins of the music world.Pure brilliance.

  • genius band! Mitsuo Tate's guitar stands out in this performace. My favorite band for many years now. I still think it will take some time for the masses to appreciate this band. Thank you Cocteau Twins!

  • A discovered this video yesteday and it already made me cry several times. It´s just too beautiful and perfect.

  • will heggie aint been w/ the twins since garlands and moon and the melodies. its been simon raymonde since sunburst and snowblind, fool.

  • I'd never seen this footage before, and I'm dumbfounded by Liz Fraser's ability to bend words and sounds to her will. She is living proof of the Divine. Such grand things are not meant to last forever. They exist of a time and place within my heart that I can't bear to continue yet never want to forget.

  • Thanks so much for posting this - what a great band they were, I still remember being blown away the first time I heard Treasure and Victorialand back in '96 and they had me from there. Nothing like them before or since.

  • Excellent !!!
