@chafeboy I think all dogs are what we make of them. My shih-tzu was miserable when we got our pitbull and boxer puppy. He was #1, and was content with that. He started acting up as a result of that. My new shih tzu Abba is the sweetest dog. She'd never hurt another dog. She does have boundaries though, and if she feels threatened by another dog, she will growl. It's natural.

My shih tzu does this. So weird, but she just doesn't seem to connect with other dogs. Only humans. If another dog even tries to approach her she gets real mean and nasty. I have no idea why that is.

@narukofan2 yes, they have excellent sense of hearing and smell I think.....in the winter the guards were put them under their coats/cloaks and leave their heads poked out so the guards could sleep...the dog would wake them up upon any threat or scents......

I have a similar situation, My son has a boxer and I have the shih tzu. The shih tzu rules, or think he does. Brody let show play until he's had enought then he takes his paw and makes show sit down. It's fun to watch.
I have a lhasa, but the two are very similar breeds. Thing is, she used to love big dogs - she'd tumble all over them. Now, I think she's scared of them because she had two incidents where she was attacked (Ironically, by small dogs - a corgi and a mini poodle). Now, she barks and acts very similarly to Bentley whenever a dog approaches her.

My friend has both a Shih Tzu and a Tiger Stripe Boxer (Rock). The Boxer is so gentle to the Shih Tzu (Gizmo). In fact the Shih Tzu is the boss I think!
Cute, but pick the baby up. My Boxer and my 5 pound toy poodle sleep together, and play together. Big, and small dogs can get along, but the little dog needs to have a safety zone to run to if needed so it doesn't get too stressed. Your Boxer appears to be young, give the situation some time. Boxers mature slowly.
ah, you are right about that-boxers maturing slowly. I have to say our Boxer is not the brightest crayon in the box. We love her just the same though! Our shih-tzu in this video passed away recently. We miss him terribly. He did warm up to the other dogs though and ended up beating up on them too. He was rather cranky the day I video-taped this :)
@CaliforniaWeddings I don't think picking the little guy up is necessary. But definitely should be supervised. I take my dad's 4 year old Shih-Tzu over to my buddy's place to play with his Lab-pit mix. Taz (my dad's dog) tends to Antagonize Val and asserts his superiority over her.

ah, you are right about that-boxers maturing slowly. I have to say our Boxer is not the brightest crayon in the box. We love her just the same though! Our shih-tzu in this video passed away recently. We miss him terribly. He did warm up to the other dogs though and ended up beating up on them too. He was rather cranky the day I video-taped this :)

@CaliforniaWeddings I don't think picking the little guy up is necessary. But definitely should be supervised. I take my dad's 4 year old Shih-Tzu over to my buddy's place to play with his Lab-pit mix. Taz (my dad's dog) tends to Antagonize Val and asserts his superiority over her.
