    WHAT?!?!

  • @areil51me too

  • Quite possibly, the finest, most nuanced performance by a female vocalist I've ever seen or heard. It's what happens when a great singer is also a gifted actress. This wasn't Lea we just heard; this was Fantine.

  • DAMN

  • Un-be-friggin-lievable. This performance brings me to tears every time I hear it!

  • goose bumps in a good way :)

  • Have you ever thought how lucky we all are to have such wonderful songs and superb singers. My life has been much enhanced.

  • Thanks to Cameron for bringing Salonga in to this production. Now, we don't have to put up anymore with videos of Ruthie Henshall's toad-like voice and wooden rendition of Fantine!

  • @brunswick325 Don't criticize someone when you can't even sing like them. Both Salonga and Henshall have amazing voices.

  • @healingblues just you and you alone...

  • The human race is proud of Lea Salonga.

  • It's amazing how Lea has transformed over the years...from Eponine to Fantine...all I can say is "Brilliant!" She made us believe that she was a street riff raff with a heart and then a woman who lost in love but still dreams...brilliant!

  • @healingblues just you

  • @healingblues just you

  • lol pwned

  • @healingblues it's just you.

  • @healingblues Yep, just you.

  • best eponine and fantine in the world

  • She is the best. But in the near future everyone would like to listern to Maisie Li sing this song too.

  • THE BEST!!!!

  • best fantine ever. best eponine ever :)

  • great voice.....am sorry I SHOULD HAVE said.. the BEST VOICE EVER!!!

Thanks Lea Salonga for keeping us always proud......

    GOD bless you always...

Keep on inspiring people with your great voice.

    Love you always.

  • iam proud to be a filipino...see world class!

  • I love Lea Salonga however I thought Ruthie Henshall in the 10th anerversiry portrayed her much better in my opinion:)

  • An unquestionably heartfelt and brilliantly sung performance. Lea Salonga blows ALL other Fantine actors out of the water!

  • I've always thought one of the greatest things about Fantine is the fact that she is dignified all the way to her end because she knows she is the one who determines her dignity. Lea Salonga goes more that route than Ruthie Henshall, who shows her breaking down more and more in the song rather than telling her story. :)

  • Like if you think Lea Salonga and Lea Michelle should do a duet!!!

  • I'm off to see Les Mis in March.... SO EXCITED :D

  • She is a really great singer and actress - but knowing that the story takes place in France around 1815 it is kinda strange to see an asian face playing a poor france worker. No offense! I would find it kinda strange as well if a european or american actress would play Miss Saigon...

  • I don't care what you say, Lea is the BEST person to ever sing this song EVER. No one even comes close to how good this is.

  • 2:46 xD i love that change in her eyes

it's like all shimmery with dreams then they turn cold and unkind

  • Les Miserable quickly became my all time favorite musical when I first saw it on broadway a couple of years before I moved to Tampa Florida. This song & singer/actress was one of the reasons why. Thank you for the share & memory fictionmindx.. Eddie theLIGHT/laLUZ

  • I wish that she could play both eponine and fantine... she's amazing at both! Got to love her!

  • this song is too big for lea, she seems to struggle with the big notes....whereas ruthie makes it seem so effortless!

  • I love her low notes. Those were the hardest to hit. Only great singers can do that.

  • 3.11 WOW!

  • Ruthie Henshall is way better

  • i don't think she compares to ruthie henshall, ruthie actually made me cry.

  • <3 <3 <3

  • i was about to sing this for an audition.......then i watched this..........and decided i could never measure up

  • @alumeng Sing it anyways. You don't have to be Lea Salonga in order to sound fantastic.

  • The funniest part is that at the beginning, Salonga talks like a completely normal person. You would never expect her to so unbelievably phenomenal.

  • Wonderful interpretation.

  • THE BEST FANTINE OMG OMG OMG

  • Lea Salonga is so great that she makes the "domestic starlet has been" Ruthie Henshall look like a very mediocre Fantine-wannabe.

  • @aaprato You forgot: the domestic starlet, "careerless" has-been Ruthie Henshall, lol!

  • GIRL ANG GANDA! GO PINAY YOU GO GIRL!

  • @Zapeera

  • This is the BEST rendition ever.... filled with power and emotions!

  • deserves to get more than a million views.., :))

  • Oh MY GOD I just fell in love again. What an emotional voice! What a priceless performance!!!!!

  • No wonder she won several awards....So great voice....

  • no arguments.. lea is the best female stage performer of all time.. hands down!!!

  • @Kalmyel Her face is just naturally full of expression and keep in mind that she is IN character. It's a story, it's not just a singing performance.

  • She stills nails this role perfectly. after all these years :)

  • Lovely voice...

  • Lea's entire intro can be easily translated into, "My name is Lea Salonga and I kick all kinds of ass...even yours. Love me or die."

  • mesmerizing! time stood still the whole time i was listening to lea! wow!

  • She has such a sweet face. When you hear her voice, you think woah

  • anybody else's eyes get watery when she hit that note at 4:04? freaking A what a performance.

  • @TunderStruc Pfft.

  • THIS IS WHAT DESERVES 500 MILLION VIEWS ON YOUTUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @skny626 I heard a woman sing the part of Epenine in Buffalo about 8 years back. The part of John val was performed by Ivan Rutherford. Do you know if it was Lea Solonga? She was/They were excellent. My wife and I argue all the time over which musical is better, Les Mis, or Phantom. I say musically, Les Mis. Phantom of course, gets top billing on special effects.

  • حد عربى هنا؟

  • oh god! ruthie henshall/lea salonga! who is the best fantine? close my eyes listen! love them both! im a heathen!!!!!

  • this just gives me goosebumps! Proud to be Filipino because of great artists such as Lea Salonga whom I adore since I was young.

  • i remember anne hathaway once said she loves a filipino singer. apparently, lea salonga is one of the most gorgeous singers in Philippine, even the best. besides, anne hathaway once sang "on my own" in an occasion. and her mother is an actress in theater. i personally guess that she may have appreciated lea salonga because miss saigon was still in broadway when she was a teenager. maybe i am wrong, but i would be very happy if someone who adore lea can have a chance to sing her/his icon's song.

  • ...damn, I've been pronouncing her name wrong the whole time. I've been pronouncing Lea as "Lee-ah" instead of "leh-ah" because of people I know IRL whose names are pronounced like the former.

  • I just adore her! She's a great singer and actress. Yeah, the BEST Fantine ever!

  • It's great that they got rid of Ruthie Henshall and invited Salonga back for the 25th anniversary. I couldn't stand Ruthie's ugly, throaty voice and her very stiff "acting." Salonga IS Fantine!

  • @mdiamse i'm confused.....some say here ruthie is better.....and u say lea is better....but i think the chosen cast for this play says it all right?haha

  • @mdiamse I disagree with you slightly. Lea is very good, but you can't say that Ruthie Henshall was all bad as that's merely your opinion. Personally, I like how Ruthie portrays Fantine. She doesn't pretty her situation up - she's a woman who's lost everything, and has to sell herself shortly before dying of consumption. Her voice SHOULD be throaty and harsh, in my opinion. But yes, Lea is amazing. :)

  • So...why doesn't this have over a million views already? Because Lea Salonga's voice is amazing!

  • What can one say about Les Miz? Best musical ever written?

  • 0:50

  • Anne Hathaway doing THIS?!?!!? I think not.....

  • @roaringtiger586 well ann hathaway isnt no lea but ann has a beautiful voice as well

  • @OlympicDream1971 She was pregnant at this time.

  • cant stop listening to this has so many connations 4 me lost love of my life suddenly and then my son and was in dark place such a long time and rays of sunlight are just startin to come through!!

  • You just need to love her

  • how did nick jonas end up in the comments?

  • She is beautiful and so is her voice ! Lea Salonga is like a disney princess come to life!

  • @FrozenFourthSeason *disney? wtf

  • @thecrappyidols she provided the singing voice for mulan and jasmine of aladdin. so in a sense, she is a disney princess brought to life. :)

  • @sarsarita ok

  • Susan Boyle's got nothing on this.

  • Lea's is passionate, fierce, and heartbroken. Ruthie's is much more gentle, bittersweet, and heart-wrenching. It all depends on what you prefer.

  • We all know that being able to sing is a talent. But when a singer can make an E sound with a mouth shaped of Ahh, man that's quite a skill. 4:31

  • @popups46okay tip of tongue behind bottom teeth and lift the middle of your tongue towards your soft palate (without lifting or tightening your lower jaw). But yes, it's quite a skill ;)

  • @carolinebza Thank you I can never get to do it. I'm a pop/rock/r&b singer which don't really require those kind of techniques but I like these types of music and I try to study singers who perform them since I can't afford a voice teacher so. Just to improve my singing, lol and be a skilled singer like Lea. But thank you I appreciate it.

  • Her voice is enchanting

  • Absolutely heartbreaking.

  • Lea is awesome!

  • Nick Jonas' killed the dream I dreamed :(

  • @AdWalka ...he absolutely did mine too!

  • @AdWalka Jonas Salk gave it a shot and revived it. This is the result.

  • She provides so much talent, emotion and character. just a pleasure to listen and watch

  • i love how she stays in character throughout the entire song.....it takes a really powerful actress to pull that off. To feel the inmost emotions of the character and deliver ever to beautifully...

  • never fails to amaze! :-))

  • fuck. goosbumps.

  • The best, blows the others away

  • her voice blows me away. ahhhh

  • perfect!! i love her so much!!

  • bravo!!!superb!!!lea, you are one of a kind...

  • I love her.

  • The best. ever. period.

  • And yet Susan Boyle singing the same song has 83 million views. Maybe Ms Salonga should have done the song dressed as a bag lady ? Popular is not necesarily better.

  • @meotaku2 of course this version is way better, but we have to understand that TV sells way more than broadway and not many people are familiarized with musical theater, and i can count myself inside these people. but everyone watches TV and YouTube, it just gets to more people...

  • 37 people are in the wrong!

  • What a joy to see someone who sings with such abandon and so well!

  • cant wait for the release of the movie musical.. im a bit sceptical of some of the cast though.

  • MAGIC

  • @kuntrabida hndi po siya hirap. ayaw lang niya i falsetto para buo at mas mganda ung quality ng voice.

  • make that goosebumps x 2.

  • no need to say she's good... i had goosebumps and i think that's enough.

  • Fantine and Enjolras were the best filled roles of the 25th anniversary.

  • RuthieWho?(TM) PattiWho?(TM). Lol!

  • just amazing!!! I cry every time i listen Lea Salonga singing this song

  • @archieanders "RUTHIE HENSHALL the rough, ugly-voiced, straining-to-hit-the-high notes, and acts-as-wooden-as-a-tree CAREER-LESS DOMESTIC STARLET HAS BEEN..." How mean, lol!

  • @CHorowitz95 Just stating a fact...
