Hillel Slovak was the guitarist for it (first RHCP guitarist,) and Flea was a member briefly too at least for the e.p. they did. Having said they weren't as funky or as good as the chili peppers, but still one to have a listen to maybe.

There are several bands in Ithaca NY, I just visited a friend @ Cornell and saw the mutron warriors and some other funk bands... and there is the NY funk exchange. They don't got as wild a feel as the old chili peppers.. (but once I get my band together i'll change that lol hopefully)
