it charges the device with out any wires from the powermat but you can't charge it with out electricity do that is why

the one wire is to plug in the actual 'powermat' you think that the thing battery powered or something? because that you be pretty bleeping redundant.

the concept is that it can recharge WIRELESS DEVICES meaning that it has to have a wireless receiver to be charged wirelessly.

ipods don't have that, which is why you have to plug it into that 'white thing'. because the 'white thing' is the wireless reciever so that the ipod can be charged wirelessy and therefore all their claims are true.

It's not required to buy a case, it comes with little connectors that you can use for the wireless charging. All cases are optional.
