If you are using a fast SD/SDHC card, the update takes less than 30sec.

@heyimbrian If it is one of the limited colors (red/navy/white), probably not, unless whoever you get one from replenishes their stock often. If it is one of the new set of 25 colors, yes.

To check your current firmware, press the MENU button on your KX and leave it pressed while you turn the camera on.

I really really really advise you to read your Owner's Manual, I know it's kind of large but you payed 600+ dollars for this camera, you should learn everything you can about it right? :)

Heh! You are a digital gadget addict. You have even upgraded your iron to a new model. You unboxed the tele lens wearing the same shirt and have obviously used the new iron. issues with rechargeable batteries... even with firmware upgrade and correct battery settings on camera.. they do not work....... DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA!!!!!!

Hey Nolasck - I just got my KX last week. Do I still have to update the Firmware on a "newer" KX?

For everyone - I was going to buy the K7 it has a great build, menu on top,better quality LCD, etc etc but the Sensor in the KX is better especially in Low Light - High ISO.Perhaps they'll replace the K7 sensor next time, or they'll come out with a Full Frame.

I just bought this camera in red and so far I like it. The menus are a little more complicated than Canon XSi but overall there are more features and I am sure I will get the settings down with time.

Just curious. Is there any major difference between the K-x video and the K-7? I'm planning on buying another DSLR with HD Video I already have the Panasonic GH1 but can't afford to buy another one to shoot different angles..

@nyczszx there is a few differences but they arent important unless you value them. The k-7 has an LCD screen on the top to display shooting info. The k-7 also has a significantly higher resolution display. The K-7 is also magnesium alloy and weather proofed. K-7 has a second mode dial, but features are pretty much the same. And the K-x costs half as much.

@RAM4486 there is only one diference the pentax k-x has 720p at 24 fpr the k-7 has 720p at 30fpr if you are looking for a dslr with better video get the canon t1i it has 1080p wich is full hd i hope you get what you are looking for

One more thing. There's no need to move your photos off the SDHC card. You can simply use a different card to perform the update. Just be sure to format it first and place only the BIN file on it. After comfirming the upgrade, reinsert your pix card into the K-X!

By the time I get my imac I will be making better videos, so for now I have to go with the video with no editing and I do rehearse but still get those "ugh"/"umm" moments lol

most likely any K-x's that come out of the factory after this update was announced, will have the latest firmware. But if you buy a new K-X from a camera shop and they've had it in store for longer than the update has been out than it will more than likely require the update.

I have Windows Movie Maker in Vista and it handles any video upto 1080p. including widescreen, theres usually a setting to change from widescreen 16:9 and Normal 4:3, the exporting settings can influence how it gets onto youtube aswell.. I personally would think iMovie > WMM but its not terrible, especially for the average user. I use Sony Vegas Pro 9 BTW ;-)
