  • Cali vs Portland where should I go or should I stay in california

  • @riseagainst1998 all of california vs portland? Id say, check out sebastapol, eureka, arcata, humboldt, healdsburg, cloverfield, i mean california rocks too, my video was to calm 'haters' down on their narrow span of understanding how things work up there. be a nomad and be everywhere and nowhere too ; )

  • @gogogodancer do you mean Cloverdale? I grew up i Sonoma County and assume that's what you are talking about.

  • @livingstonmail yea wow, movie brain failure. srry, yea cloverdale, but you dont need to then.. I used to work at the Charcuterie in Healdsburg, heh. 707 HTown.

  • Gotta admit,...I was totally expecting you to be a silly little hipster with foolish glasses and a bad hat, ranting on about how "cool" Portland is and anyone who hates it is "uncool".

Instead, I got a thoughtful (and witty) explanation of some of the undercurrent dynamics of Portland culture. Instead of blindly defending Portlands' culture, you succinctly EXPLAINED Portlands' culture.

While I was right about your stupid glasses/hat, I was glad to be wrong about your intellect.

  • @Poler777 glasses are made in West Germany, 50 cent salvation army score, which keep out wind and I can look almost at the sun without flinching. That being said, they are silly, and if you were from Portland circa 80's, you would understand the 'prize' that I actually still possess. The hat is homemade, so that too, can be seen as silly, and i agree again ; ) And for your compliment on my intellect, my ego can only smile and agree wholeheartedly, while my humility thanks you. Peace

  • I think waiting through 8-9 months of cold and rain is worth it to see the 3-4 months of sunshine and beauty. Heat and sunshine is overrated. Come to LA, where I live now. It's one of the driest cities in the nation, and just see how dirty, brown, and hazy it is. I can't wait to move back to Portland. Also I'm happy to know plenty of people would be happy to take my place in LA so I can live some place else. Hopefully they won't come crying when they find out how much it sucks to live here.

  • hello gogogogogogo dancer. u should go to burningman. it would be great to seeyou there :)

  • im in florida watchin klansmen burn books, but we're planning to move to portland. i have dreads, but im just quaint here. i can usually talk my way past any conservative doubts about my hair, but im hearing a lot about a "hippie" stigma in portland and how its going to make things hard for me to even get a foot in the door for the kind of jobs im used to, or any jobs. im more dark electro than hippie vibe, but its not like i can walk around w/ a sign to say i'm not with them. is it that bad?

  • @lestermagoo i never had anything against dreads... what jobs are you used to? maybe stay a bit south of portland? like, eugene? or ashland? smaller towns, but bigger hearts any day. But again, it depends what you work in. portland will have more options, but if you make veggie burritos and grow pot, then eugene, ashland are your friends ; ) and no, im not generalizing that youre a pot grower because you grow your hair in a particular way.

  • Bush Fucked ALL OF US!!!!!!

  • @izzy5959 Oh he had help, I assure you. Bush is just one lemon on the tree.

  • @gogogodancer Thanks for the reply and the video...

  • I was born and raised in Portland. Portland use to be nice......now there are way to many losers, druggies, Gangs, and kooks. I live in Laurelhurst.....it's just horrific now (thanks to the MAX line). If you are forced to move here, try to find a place that's AWAY from the MAX line. I have had 11 criminals within the last 2 years trying to hide out in my backyard. I flashed my shotgun at the last criminal (I have a permit), and my yard has been pretty quiet for a while. Just a shame :-(

  • @IsabelleHayley totally agreed about the MAX line. too many thugs and gangbangers hang out at the stops. Portland is still a lot nicer than other cities I've been to but the criminal element has definitely soured the city a bit for me.

  • @schwarzblatt i remember the days when maxx first was put up, and the drug running from Hillsboro and beavertron got into ptown, and then vice versa.. Its disappointing that modern techs always get abused so that a good idea has its shadow. But i suppose in the duality of things, it kinda makes sense. still, for those not involved in gangs or drugs, its a handy way to get around when you cant afford a car.

  • Hi there,

Thanks for your video, it is very informative.

I am wondering if you might have suggestions for housing (as far as good neighborhoods vs. not so good neighborhoods)? I may be moving there (if I can get into Oregon Health and Science University).

Cheers. Thanks for your video and your response.

  • @SeijouAi Depends what your standard for good and bad neighbor might be. Distant, almost non existent neighbors? try the southwest area. More likely to have a street potluck and may have a band on the street? try the southeast side. Got some cash you like to throw around? 23rd ave and the Pearl District. Since you are looking at getting into OHSU, then maybe Sellwood area, or the Barbur Blvd side of Southwest pdx. Finally, drive around. When the gunshots cant be heard, its good ; )

  • @gogogodancer Thanks =) I'm going to send you a few more questions via. PM!

  • May I ask if you're a high way patrol officer by any chance? Reason I ask is because your glasses reminds me of patrol cop hehe.

  • @vena309 You may ask, and no, I am not. Nor would i ever be in a thousand lifetimes hopefully. The glasses were a very interesting coincidence, and keep them for nostalgic purposes ; ) They were made in West Germany, so that would mean that they are at least 22 years old ; ) kinda neat to be the only guy on the block with kickass shades ; )

  • @chargerboy2222 yeah, youre probably right. I wish you the best of luck ; )

  • High homeless rate, Unemployment rate, Hunger rate!!! Too many public assistance programs that Portland has that brings in people down on their luck. Yes, there are many unfortunates that need these programs but now Portland is over run with problems. Should there be a way to find a balance?

  • @chargerboy2222 Well you seem to say that this situation lives only in Portland. I may be wrong, but i think worldwide, space is being misused.

In this instance, Portland is overrun with problems. There are many kinds. The problems I find helpful to focus on first are the basics... Water, Food, Shelter. Then luxuries like bed, and table and cooking ware. You see, I believe the balance lies in the ability for one to sustain himself and his community in time of crisis. Peace and Light

  • @chargerboy2222 cont> Pdx has too many grass parks. So put clinics for sick homeless people to acquire skills and feed themselves at the same time by making orchards and veg gardens. They would also be housed nearby, in exchange for the work they provide. this idea could become a bigger picture very quickly, and taxdollars would be significant, but the beauty and self respect gained would be an enormous morality boost. frankly it would be open to the public to enhance in their way. Join Hands

  • DUDE that was totally kickass. Brilliant description of the tax-incentivization cycle. I'm in Vermont, which makes aNywhere look like employment mecca... but you raise some killer points that I would've only have learned the hard way, otherwise. Ever been to Boulder? You should do a travelogue. =)

  • @heatherfreedman Wow, thanks for that comment ; ) feels good. Been to Boulder, but years ago. And you are right, I should do a travelogue. I live in France now, but it could be handy for ppl from the states who feel like visiting... (or escaping ; ) ) to know what to expect. And i suppose a few cities in the us too. Anyway, I dont know about brilliant, since I see it as common sense, but ill definitely take the compliment. We all get a chance at being brilliant. Arrrrr! Peace n Light

  • I like the video thanks for all the info.

  • im moving to portland from california, and brining alot of gang bangers to the city

  • That whole Portland sucks video I made a few yrs back was satire.. I really liked Portland. Sacramento can't compare if you want my opinion.

  • Great video and thank you for sharing!!

  • Lesbianism is not a beautiful thing. Its kinda like two guys banging each other in their shit holes, but instead of men, its women.

  • AND WE ARNT MINE AND CLAMS RETARD

  • FUCK U I LIVE IN PORTLAND IVE LIVED HERE MY WHOLE LIFE SO GO FUCK YOURSELF AND THE WEATHER MAKES OREGON SPECIAL AND WE DO HAVE JOBS U FUCKIN HIPPIES! AND WE RNT POOR AS SHIT! SO IF U HAVENT LIVED HERE LONG ENOUGH THEN STFU AND WE DONT GET JOBS FROM CALI AND OTHER WEST COAST STATES

  • Portland is awesome! its my favorite place, right now im in south Carolina, Charleston and is as racist as hell! you cant walk into a store without a comment being made its BS!

  • @TheExoticAnimal Racism is just a peoples way of saying, we want to preserve our own.. Nothing wrong with that. I know I don't want the 3rd world in my backyard.. Anti Racism I must remind you is counterproductive.

  • @TheMeltinResponse so your point is what? and its white and blacks who are being racist as hell, trust me im not racist, its just stupid that you cant walk down the street without being looked at like you don't belong.

  • @TheExoticAnimal Like I said, instead of living among one another hating one another, I believe in organizing.. talking to other black racists about separation rather than get involved in the shouting matches with the N word this and N word that.. Cracker this, cracker that.. The former is more my style. Check out my other channel here on youtube GiovannisSanctuary for more details.

  • @TheMeltinResponse yeah so im really gonna have a therapy session with every racist person. Im not racist, so i dont really care i just hate how they act its really annoying.

  • @TheExoticAnimal I hear that. to respond (finally) to your first comment. Yes portland rocks ; ) and even though I have rarely met a racist person there, its always easy to speak your pov to a persons' face there. As long as you phrase your pov in a non aggressive manner, the offending party will most likely feel as small as they are ; ) Racism is an antiquated way of dividing and conquering. Once people realize that, it will be counterproductive to carry on grandpa's shoulder chip. if ya get me

  • @gogogodancer i agree :)

  • @TheExoticAnimal You're probably meeting the ones who live up to the true stereotypes or something.

  • They hate big buisness and try to shove them off as much as possible

  • this video is pretty awesome and informative

  • @flauze i appreciate you too ; )

  • @aclveg well your comment will stay, but you wont. I dont appreciate your lack of judgement. Go watch some more TV, its obviously what you need.

  • @aclveg who does?

  • Portland rocks assclown!

  • @fonzie0704 what part of my video makes you think, that i think otherwise? I hope you realize that i made the video to give ideas to why some might not like my HOMETOWN. so, with that, assclown is a word that I made popular. I appreciate your use of the nonsense word.

  • Nice video, i should add that I personally hated Portland/Northwest until I moved away. Lived in 5 states since, and couldn't be happier being back home.

  • @NanHuckRDH its kind of like that. Hate it where youre there, miss it when you leave, love it when you get back. but of course, i could never hate portland, only get sad as i think it has gotten too big.

  • try super high income tax -- if you make $3,700 or $3,900 a year or more, you will pay 9% (on the low end) in income tax! Make more? You'll pay up to 10% or 11% personal income tax. If that's not enough, Oregon likes to take a part of small businesses earnings. With this said, there's a lot of businesses that have moved out of this state and not a lot of businesses wanting to move here. So, you have a down in the doldrums economy here and it shows up in the people's faces --depressed, zombielike

  • @patriotsprevail I hear that, but hey, No taxation without representation. So i dont know why ANYONE would pay them. Personally, I hope Americans start reading or rereading their Constitution and discern for themselves that its high time we had ourselves a little Tea Party. Not the voting kind, the action kind. And not the violent kind, the right and peaceful kind. Thanks for the comment, i didnt want to get too specific, this was just to add an opinion from a true blue Webfoot.

  • @gogogodancer well you have the right to vote dont you???no tax=,no schools, no hospitals ,no roads .etc.

  • Sounds like a lot of drama on this page.lol

Nevertheless, I have a few questions.

My wife and I are thinking of moving to Portland this winter. We live in Farmington NM (lots of sun!). Any suggestions?

Also, I am curious about the culture. Is Portland one of those places where if you don't agree with the progressive mentality you become ostracized? I have lived in a town before where those who preach tolerance are in fact the worst at it! I need diversity; Politically and philosophically.

  • @DoubleTheRichard Had enough of forest fires? heh, just kidding. Well, you will experience a ton of rain during the winter, but its not flash flood rain, its a constant drizzle, that ends up adding up? if that makes sense. But if you like skiing or snowboarding, dream come true. Culturewise, I think everywhere we go, we will find ppl who dont agree with you. But as long as you can separate cynicism and sarcasm with humor, you should be fine ; ) let me know how it works out ; )

  • @gogogodancer The fires have been terrible! F-town is really smoky today.

Not sure if the rain will bother me too much; I am form Ketchikan Alaska (180"/year). Portland's a college town right? I personally never understood the concept of getting thousands of dollars in debt just to have a select group of 'tenured' professors try to brainwash me into their ideologies. Getting off track lol. How do they view SELF educated individuals? Are diplomas still idolized up there?

  • @DoubleTheRichard oh i think self education is a necessary good.. Portland can be pretty open about that... What market are you speaking of? If college is still an interest, Evergreen in Washington is awesome. You can make your own major ; ) i had a friend graduate with a degree discussing the years 1945-1947... sounds ridiculous, but its on his diploma ; ) Portland has always tolerated my non conformity. I think thats why so many ppl think the town sucks so hard ; ) poor them.

  • @gogogodancer well a lot happened between 1945 and.1947 .....ahh,, was that including the whole world or just what happened in Evergreen W.A..???

  • @whoarethebrainpigs haha, no the world. Mostly Europe and the so called 'history' that we are spoon fed. Interesting guy, he turned me on to a lot of 'theories' as to the real cause and end of WW2. Evergreen is the college he attended to get his silly sounding degree, but, he works with it. So everything is possible in an infinite universe, as he so eloquently put it. But as I say, if ppl cant handle your opinion, they have no place in your space, regardless of town state or country you live in.

  • @gogogodancer interesting ??what were his theories on the beginning and end of ww2???..it didnt concern alien/ufo conspiracy theories did it???

  • @whoarethebrainpigs it actually goes way back before WW2, but in essence, Hitler was just another sockpuppet that knew how to connect with his ppl. His concern was the Zionist takeover of the world, hence the jewish reduction program. He didnt know which ones to take out, so his _generals_ decided to take them all out. This is not my theory, but his. All of the Revolutions, russian, english, french and german were all done for parliamentary strengthening and reduction of monarchy.

  • @whoarethebrainpigs One brave king in the 1600's once said... The people are my mirror. If they are happy, I can be happy, if they are hungry, i must feed them. If they have no hope, neither do I. Kings in general, when properly trained to be one, (because not everyone can do the job right) did things for the people. Its GOVT that takes everything away. Check out who and what caused these revolutions. In every instance, ppl in power wanted more. and it trickled into WW2 and beyond that, nowadays

  • @whoarethebrainpigs finally, ending WW2. Hitler never attacked England not because of fear of water, but a very high respect for the crown, if you can believe that. And America waited and waited to get in, because certain ppl were making a ton of cash on the war. Finally, as to test the effects of our new tech, the bomb, we napalmed tokyo, causing japan to attack pearl harbor, which gave us the reason nec. After the war, where did all the scientists from germany go? U S A!!!! Bayer is Nazi. oops

  • @gogogodancer really ,thanks for the reply ,,bloody hell.. he has some pretty loopy theories ,Hitler never attacked england????napalm in 1940???Bayer nazi ?? well every German company was under the control of those pricks in WW2 ,the nazi scientists sliming their way into U.S is correct ,,some were also given safe haven by the soviets ,have a good day ..hey!! are you auditioning for the next movie on Hunter S thompson??

  • @whoarethebrainpigs hahah never thought of that. But this is bat country ; ) napalm was first made in 42, plenty of time for instigation of Pearl Harbor. Hitler never attacked England. instead he tried the suicidal Risk move and went against Russia. Which was insane. But I figure, he probably saw the warmachine going waaaaay too far, and in an act of morality? did what he could to dismantle it. Keeping in mind, that the institution of Eugenics was now the new world order. No wars needed.

  • @whoarethebrainpigs sorry got a bit of my dates off, but its been a looong time since i discussed this with anyone. Ok, PearlHarbor happened in 41, and napalm was 'released' to the public in 42. and here is where Tokyo burned to the ground. (keep in mind it was practically all bamboo buildings back then. very flamable) wwDOTcommondreamsDOTorg/headlines02/0314-01.htm replace DOT with a . and enjoy the read. and yes, if you research Bayer, hehe, Mendele, the nutty prof... CEO oooops!

  • @whoarethebrainpigs ok gonna stop spamming here, but wow, not enough coffee... Mengele not Mendele

  • @DoubleTheRichard I also hate places where they are not open to political diversity.

  • yeah im going to portland on the 30 of this month im going for a week hopefully is fun and not borim like everyone is telling me

  • @culoattack boring?!! never. Open your mind, ask around for things to do, go to House of Louie for the kickass chinese food, and trek around near mt hood!!! then, go to the beach!! yay, a week isnt even enough time to get bored ; )

  • @culoattack It isn't boring but it is definitely very provincial and inward thinking. From my own personal experience, people of the PNW (I lived there for the last 16 years and now, thankfully, live some where else) are like the region: distant and very cool. You want belly laughs or iconic thinking: it will not be found in PDX. Looking for enlightenment beyond the bong: it can be found in Portland but you have to look very hard.

  • One of these days, I'm going on a roadtrip, and a visit to Portland is going to be one of the stops. Just to check it out. Thanks for the information. I liked it.

  • @MaJoDo no problem.. glad to hear you'll be swinging by there. Be sure to check out hood river, and Mt. Hood too!!! great hikes in the summer, and even some skiing available.. depending on snow pack of course. Other than that, there is also nice beaches 45 minutes away ; ) but portland has a nice nightlife, and things to see in town. OMSI Oregon Museum of Science and Industry also pretty cool to check out. Have a great time!!

  • @gogogodancer It isn't boring but it is definitely very provincial and inward thinking. FL, for example, is so much diverse--ETHNICALLY.

  • maybe they just say that to see how you react. to see how you would deal with that. but when you say "oh thats perfectly ok." and snap your fingers and deal with it as you said, they become unimpressed and disappointed. idk. who knows. maybe your right. that's just what it seems by what you present in this video. but by seeing how you have a family you do know what women like and you could be right. just saying. (dont get at me for mispellings. its youtube! XD)

  • @CLICKmyNAMEplease reasonable response. As everyone is entitled to a well formed opinion i salute yours. and since you asked nicely i wont point out grammatical errors. careful with your, its a doozy. I urge you to push your manhandling at women, in portland or otherwise. Personally, if someone is going to end up giving me a fake number, id rather get the bartender's attention. And dont get me wrong, its not like women go.. 'stop, im lesbian'.

  • Dude...come on! look i ain't trying to insult you or nothin. I got respect for you cause your going at this thing logically and you got a family and you look like your well off in France. but i gotta say. if every dude is like you in portland. no wonder there are so many lesbians. what i mean is that your too mid line bro. passive. non aggressive. Im pretty sure chicks like being man handled sometimes. so when they say they're lesbian and your like "ohh thats perfectly fine"

  • Portland is Seattle's hippy failure of a daughter...

  • @VideoTronism im so glad you think so.. wonder why seattle lost their basketball team. I never thought anyone liked perpetual fish stank in the air.. but if its for you, then stay there.. happy to have one less in ptown bunging up the street with their Yaris. peace

  • all is true, you are wise

  • @Jnelks I do what I can ; ) I havent looked at this vid in about a year, and am actually shocked at the viewcount. I suppose 600 are me enjoying me being doofy, but I acknowledge you, and pray for your well being ; ) Love in Light.

  • gosh you look like my old teacher shane sweeney...

  • thanks for your perspective. i live in the sunny WNC mountains. and am considering moving to Portland. so i took your comments to heart. seriously. it feels like it rains here every day. but we have sun to mix with it. so thanks for your rain talk. i think tanning bed treatments would get me through :)

  • @presidentofeveryone I agree. I've live in So.Florida for 13 years, & sick of the bright sunny days all the time & it's mostly hot out! We hardly ever get rain, which I hate. Seattle is another place I was interested in moving to, maybe in a few years. I'm originally from the mid-west. "gogo..." thx for your insight & honesty about Portland.

  • Thanks for the insight about portland because I might be going to school there. And even though portland may not be the ideal place to live for me, its seems like its gonna be an improvement moving from chicago.

  • @UniteAndWinOiOi Are you fucking kidding me? Portland over Chicago?? I have lived here almost 15 years. Couldn't be more misreable. Think long and hard before you throw your life in the gutter.

  • @redrabbit11 wow, well again its all a matter of peoples' opinion. I wouldnt ever have anything to do with Chicago, talk about jerks.. see how hateful a negative comment feels? and to end, a little correction in basic spelling... Miserable. which is what your 'thumbs down' comment is.

  • @gogogodancer lawl, if you say so. Cool glasses by the way, you would like portland

  • @redrabbit11 yes they are. They were made in W. Germany, so, they are at least 20 years old!!! and they have extra special powers.

  • @gogogodancer You are literally the biggest douche bag I have ever had a conversation with

  • @redrabbit11 you may be right.

I have yet to meet a bigger douche bag than myself too.

  • you suck

  • @grinder746 I acknowledge your opinion, even though ewe spelt ewe wrong.

  • ...And then there's LA, where I'm from. I could write a book on what's wrong with this place. Despite all the bad stuff I hear about Portland, I still want to move there.

  • @LoudProudNPunk1 Oh, well LA is a totally different planet anyway ; ) My video was only to describe why people who go to Portland are disappointed. YOU on the other hand, will find it a cool change of pace. Cool in temperature and attitude. Just dont take any gangbustin' Laker 'tude with you ; ) You will be quickly singled out (ie 2000 semifinals) heheh. Enjoy yourself, and remember, youre not in LA anymore. Thanks for the comment ; ) btw Johnson and Jabar were my favs as a kid

  • this is a rant. plain and simple... but, its for posterity.. thanks for posting anything at all ; )
