I think a ban on hunting would be somewhat healthy. I don't think it's important, and understand why people want to hunt, but consider the negative effects.
We force evolution on deer, for example. The more we hunt the big, beautiful deer, the less those big deer reproduce, and the more deer smallness is favored by evolution. As a result, the average size of our deer, as a nation, (and not just deer-- any game, even fish) are getting smallr and reproducing at younger ages to have less offspring

Firstly, most hunters kill wild game for FOOD. Additionally, with proper shot placement to the CNS, being killed by a hunter's bullet is an instant, lights-out and painless death for the animal.

Hunting should definitely be banned. Slaughtering animals (following a proper approved method!) for food is one thing, killing an animal for fun is another. And completely wrong.
Hunting, anywhere and at anytime of year, should be considered a huge offense w/ long Jail times.

If we stop hunting, we will still have hamburgers and meat. Although that meat will be cloned and filled with chemicals to keep it fresh, it will still be meat. And who's gonna know if a deer "accidentally" falls into a hole on my property and dies? Not my fault. It could've jumped over it.....if it saw it....

I think a ban on hunting would be somewhat healthy. I don't think it's important, and understand why people want to hunt, but consider the negative effects.
We force evolution on deer, for example. The more we hunt the big, beautiful deer, the less those big deer reproduce, and the more deer smallness is favored by evolution. As a result, the average size of our deer, as a nation, (and not just deer-- any game, even fish) are getting smallr and reproducing at younger ages to have less offspring

Yes, it can help the population, and there are many instances where this is true. If that is what fox hunting is about, then I'm OK with it, but it seems that it's done more for sport than for this purpose.

That is why I have about 3 groups of 20 deer that hang out in my small neighborhood. We aren't forcing anything on anything. Our levels of predation on game in the US are healthy, and if you think otherwise, then I will be glad to take you to a place where it is normal to see 50 different deer in one field in one night. And it isnt a game ranch either.

Look, he just wants to meet with the bears and wolves WITHOUT PRECONDITIONS, to let them know that we do not approve of them killing rabbits, and other nefarious actions. It's worth noting that Sunstein speaks in a very utilitarian fashion, which is to say that he often aims to reduce needless suffering.
That said, his assertion here is that hunting should be banned "if" its only purpose is sport and entertainment. Most people know that hunting is not only for sport, but also for food and to manage animal populations. He's smart enough to know the necessary qualifications in the debate, so I suspect this is taken out of context. Is there more?

if he was truly a utilitarian then he would realize that hunting is far more humane then living wild animals to their own devices.
in the wild, animals die either of accident, disease, predation, or starvation in old age, none of these are painless, and are deaths that come with much suffering.
predation by human firearms, properly applied and without causing undue suffering, is a far more human death then what nature has to offer most of the time.

Whatever the cause of death for an animal, homans should not be the ones responsible for it. Animals dying disease, accident, predation etc in their natural habitat, without negative human intervention, is something we can't control.. that doesn't mean we go hunting. It's cruel and hunters deserve jail time.

Your logic quite fail.
Firstly, most hunters kill wild game for FOOD. Additionally, with proper shot placement to the CNS, being killed by a hunter's bullet is an instant, lights-out and painless death for the animal.
Contrast this to your beef which has been killed using methods that involve having its throat slit with blood spraying everywhere and bleeding to death for over a few minutes.
I'd rather hunt my own food thanks.
At the very least check your facts before you post things in here.
