  • Q chido sta este tema

  • wait when was this version originally recorded? was this gonna be the real thing until they made the one with the lyrics from Piper?

  • @mrserjmalakian this is in the same sessions as piper.. this was going to be the "real" version with the verses about jim and henry king, which were word for word from "cautionary tales for children" by hilaire belloc, but belloc's estate blocked the floyd from using it, so syd re wrote those two verses... the "for all the time spent in that room" was the only verse that stayed.. however they cut out the "then finding she was left alone..." part (due to the same reason as the belloc verses)

  • ~HaPPy~BiRTHDAY SyD!~THANK YOU~so much for all your wonderful tunes, you must have spent some time in that ‘Room of Musical Tunes’ to make that nursery rhyme tapestry song ~Octopus~ work like clockwork~

~I hope you fly above us on ~clouds of sunlight floating by~ (I’ve you floating on a river on YouTube anyhow, lol)~ But, wherever you are Syd, I hope you’re happy now, as no one deserves happiness more than you~

  • FCK AWESOME!!!! SYD RULES´

  • Thanks for that. Not heard that version before :)

  • Never heard this version before. Nice.

  • @madhat2k Me neither. Is it an unused original recording?

  • @MoonchildMindaugas2 yes it is! the song was written from parts of "Cautionary Tales for Children" by Hilaire Belloc, where Syd took exact word for word bits of the book for this song (the first verse about Jim and the 2nd about Henry King are word for work from the book), but Belloc's estate did not allow them to use it, so Syd re-wrote it in what ended up being on "Piper", in the 'spirit" of the cautionary tales

  • @jakestardust2 Thanks. And I'm glad he did, because the final lyrics were composed better, in my opinion.

  • viva syd ,

  • God Bless you, Syd.

  • Beautiful, just beautiful....Syd would love it. Thank you David.
