  • Aikido é Shodokan ou Hatenaki , o resto é apenas 'misticismos elusivos' .

  • @AverageJoe843 "misticismos elusivos"? Ah ok, você está certo e 3 gerações de Takemussu estão erradas.

  • at best, it looks like sloppy judo.

  • @rockos414 You can't tell me the technique at 0:25 is 'sloppy'...

  • these guys should just learn judo... karate and aikido ultimately leads to judo anyway.. point ive been trying to make for years

  • this looks like a retarded version of judo

  • what shyte the ego is still very much alive is it not garbage

  • Muito massa. Esse vídeo mostrou como um Aikidoista bem treinado pode segurar facilmente um soco e se desviar de um golpe. :D

  • Enjoyed the clip and it gives me idea's. Nice to see aikido being used like this. Thanks

  • I believe Sumo is the ultimate!!

basicaly its all the same game...unbalance.

  • Aikido is the art of "love" as O-sensei said. In aikido there is no winner and no loser. This was O-sensei's teachings. In sport, there is winner and losers. In competition it really is IMPOSSIBLE to have realism because then to many people would die (since so many martial arts have many killing technique). I personally can't se the "art" in this video, this is more like wrestling.. too much rules. where are the kicks and punches? Aikido has no competition..

  • @AikiDanne1 Maybe there really isn't a "winner" or "loser" in this competition? If someone has "won", have they learned? If someone has "lost", have they learned? When you learn, are you a "winner" or "loser"? What is "winning"? What is "losing"? Can we not glean information from both positions that may (or may not) make us winners--intrinsically speaking--? Maybe this is what O'Sensei meant.

  • nice throws, add this to a bjj ground game would be sick!

  • good gedan in 0:30

  • Very nice!

  • Shodokan Aikido...

hm it feels and looks like an odd mix of judo and karate rolled into one.

  • FINALLY! A video of actual Aikido in a real competition. THANK YOU.

  • That sudorinage was just wonderfull...

  • I agree, you don't get the chance to sudorinage that often, and centerly not to do it this perfect.

  • if you cant apply your knowledge in competition....Good luck applying it when your life is in jeopardy....retard idiots who critisize martial sports....I think Tomiki is great, im a judoka and just found out about this recently....so hopefully people stop getting big ego's from applying techniques on non-martial artists who don't know anything, and start competing against each other, to have REAL test of skills

  • Don't you think a REAL test of skills would be a REAL fight? When tori has a fake knife you have no fear of dieing. You cannot have a REAL outcome in a sport because the loser does not get hurt. I mean really hurt where your life is threatened. If you set rules to a contest where someone survives then you have established a barrier. Is this REAL? If you fight for your life ... whether or not you take the other guy's life ... this is the REAL test.

  • @bushin64 I'm a little late to your comment, but, if someone desires passionately not to be touched or left a mark by the "knife", then, would they bit hit by the knife? If they truly wanted to avoid the knife, then they would do so, even if it's a competition. If someone doesn't want to "lose" and the way you lose is by being struck by the knife, then maybe someone can alter their mindset, and simulate a "real enough" situation, to make their skills useful.

  • @Ronnock Agreed. That is why we train. Thank you for your insight.

  • @bushin64 I don't really get your response. How is this not training? Do you have videos or literature about how you train that makes this any less legitimate? I don't see how what you said was a counter-argument to what I had supposed to you.

  • @Ronnock I responded the way I did because while I agree with what you said I don't want to argue about it. My main point with what I said 1 year ago is that no matter how "real" we train we will never know our true skill until the real thing happens. A contest with rules makes "realistic" training even less realistic. You can train on a flight simulator until the day you die and never know what it's like to fly a real plane. I hope I was able to answer you question.

  • @bushin64 You have it backwards. By not practicing against a live opponent, that is where the realism is lost... A 'contest' with as little rules as possible is the best situation to train you for a one on one, unarmed conflict. Taking out so called 'lethal techniques' such as biting or eye gouging do little to detract from the realism of a fight. In reality, these are not often used in fights (unless you're a pussy) and when they are, a little grappling training is more than enough to stop it.

  • @theshninja Interesting. I think we agree more than you realize. I disagree, however, with eye gouging in particular. My sister gouged the eye out of a 23 year old (armed with a knife) would be rapist. This got him off her (he ran out of her apartment) and made him easy to ID when they arrested him. I wouldn't call her a pussy. Like Ronnack said 11 months ago "we will never know our true skill until the real thing happens."

  • @bushin64 I never said they couldn't be effective... However, what I meant by only pussies use them was that they should not be relied upon. Also... it may have worked on that fellow, but another might have just gotten angrier and stabbed your sister to death. Just sayin'.

  • @theshninja Cool. Nice talkin' to ya!

  • Queeee booosta!

  • Doesn't seem very useful in the clinch

  • for all of you defending Tomiki ryu.stop. if the closed minded dont see, dont listen, and dont care to do either, then why shout? Karl Geis says it best, If they have questions,STEP UP.they can be answered. If they wanna take a superior attitude STEP UP..clearity is availible. Ive studied Tomiki AND Aikikai..Aikido is Aikido is Aikido. The compitition you see here is a game. a game people like playing. So what the prob? You think it NOT Aikido? You show your Ignorance, that is all

  • Yeah Shodokan is Aikido, just with competition. No big deal really even though Ueshiba didn't like competition I don't think he would complain about Shodokan, but rather take interest in it and observe what HIS Aikido would have been like IF he had incorporated competitions, just as I do. It's not the same Aikido principle but I respect it, and its interesting to see. I'm sure they still practice the essentials of the art. Live and let live guys.

  • @ReiMonCoH I've never taken a single class of any kind of aikido... But I would gladly defend it forever on the Internet. Because I think you guys have balls. You are basically going against the grain in two camps of martial arts ideology. The one found often in aikido, ninjutsu or wing chun schools- that competition is bad. And from the other side you would proably get "why not just take judo/wrestling/MMA". Well I respect what shodokan tries to achieve and that is effective aikido! Tomiki4EVA!

  • @ReiMonCoH Karl Geis is also a well-known critic of competitive Shodokan aikido. Miyake Sensei herself once said that competitive Aikido looks like "country bumkins trying to do Sumo". I agree that Aikido is Aikido, Shodokan, Aikikai, Yoseikan, etc. But what is going on in this video is stiff, powerful, unsubtle stuff. If this is an aspect of Aikido, it is one I do not care to add to my training.

  • oo i see, so why the name of aikido?

  • thats don´t have nothing of aikido

  • Yes, you are very intelligent. This is SHODOKAN Aikido.

  • @Jotada this is nothing !. This isnt a real martial art is just a fight. aikido is aikido !. no have differents styles.so sad how people change THE REAL AND ORIGINAL AIKIDO

  • @Gamerforever1 So sad that this is probably the most effective form of aikido, and you don't yet seem to have the knowledge to realize it. Because they have practiced their techniques against a live opponent, they have a better feel for how it works against those who do not want to be thrown. The founder of Shodokan Aikido (Tomiki) was a black belt in both Aikido and Judo (under Ueshiba and Kano!) and he saw the value of this. Surely you cannot deny it?

  • @NKcel true... its looks like it would work with a opponent. Aikido in usual looks like it would work with a dancin partner. 0:27 looks good :)

  • I think that O'sensei was right. Sparring kills skill.

  • O'sensei never said anything to that.

Sparring is messy, no doubt, but the practical training is still there, Kata is still practiced as well. Plus this is a game, it encourages fellowship and development, these people become family, and we look to our elders with thanks (Ueshiba, Tomiki, Kano).

  • Tomik's thought through the introduction of a freeplay system.this would attract young people to Aikido and in time they would practice the deeper aspects of the art.

As for Tomiki Sensei not being repected, this is something I have not come accross and I have been doing Aikido since 1975.

  • What you are looking at is competitive Aikido only a part of the system. Tomiki Aikido has 6 koryu no kata that are practiced in the same manner as any other system. .Shihan Nariyama 8th Dan of the JAA Shodokan Division also hold the rank of 6th Dan in Aikikai Aikido.

  • this looks more like BJJ than aikido

  • This has nothing to do with Aikido, as most of the stuff going around utube. Why don't they call it "Tomiki ryu"? But then again aikido seems to sell, thus we have "real aikido", "shodokan aikido", the "kiai" clown etc, who use a name that they neither respect nor understand. The result is the false image ppl get for aikido....

  • I'm not a practitioner of Aikido, but what do you mean when you say this has nothing to do with Aikido? Are you critiquing the techniques, or their application?

Shodokan Aikido WAS founded by an 8th-Dan Aikidoka who was promoted directly by Ueshiba-- you'd be hard pressed to convince anyone that he neither respected nor understood the art...

  • No giorgos is right. Even if Tomiki sensei had the best intentions, Tomiki (Shodokan) aikido today has turned into wrestling, its absolutely worlds apart from most other aikido styles. Go check out some of christian tissiers videos or ueshibas and you'll see what its really like

  • Again, though, how are you comparing them? Are you saying Shodokan Aikido employs vastly different techniques than other schools of Aikido? Or is the complaint regarding the application of those techniques?

Tomiki Aikido is still worlds away from wrestling, from what I've seen. Closer to Judo without ne-waza, I'd say.

  • Yeh sorry i dont mean actual wrestling i jus mean the techniques are so untidy and rough and ready and ruff n tumble. U can argue thats more realistic but at the end of the day thats not what aikido is about. its jus the technqiues in shodokan are far too rough, and also the compeition element. Other aikido styles dont have competition because one of the key points of aikifo was to elliminate competition.

  • I think I understand what you mean. Of course, I've never been one for the Oomoto-kyo philosophy, myself. My interest in Aikido stems from an interest in fighting-- regardless of philosophy, there are a number of techniques which I find to be of merit. As a result, Shodokan Aikido seems to be the best fit for someone like me.

  • The answer is easy.

O Sensei is the founder of Aikido, as he change the techniques of the daito-ryu-jujutsu he change the name of he Martial Art. Then the 8-Dan Aikidoka that founded the Shodokan Aikido, change the BASIC principle of the Aikido from O Sensei, THEN MAKE LIKE YOUR MASTER: CHANGE COMPLETE the name...

Here is not more Aikido remaining!!

  • As Aikido is living thing it will change with time. When I look a films of Ueshiba's life his own Aikido changed due to age. I practice Tomiki Aikido different to the way it is practiced in Japan at present as my instructor was taught by Takeshi Inoue and Hideo Obha.

  • akido and ji juitsu is the best combination

  • Answering to 58747: The official name is Shodokan Aikido, but it got more popular as Tomiki Aikido due to its founder name: Tomiki.

  • where's the aikido in it?

  • all over the place, it is just a different kind of aikido than you're probably used to, lots of go with the flow.

  • This is not Aikikai Aikido. Aikikai Aikido is not the only Aikido style. The styles look different. The Aiki prinicple and methods are there.

  • Is there any effort being done to make Tomiki Aikido an olympic sport? Thanks

  • If Japan had won the bid for the 2010 it would have been one of the sports to be voted on for adding to the games!

  • Looks very hard

  • lol no kidding... I'm still bruised and Internationals were what... 3 weeks ago?

  • Is shodokan aikido the same as tomiki aikido? looks the same to me..

  • Yes! Shodokan = Tomiki.

  • yupp

  • Why isn't shodokan aikido a Olympic Sport like Judo, God damn it. that would be a lot better!

  • All right!!! Where do you practice Shodokan Aikido? Who´s your sensei?

  • I practice Shodokan Aikido in Leiden, a little town here in the Netherlands. My sensei is Ingmar Borgerhout(3rd Dan). He hast participated on the grande tournaments as Osaka and Leeds. My goal is to be a world champion sometime, and i know i must work hard to achive that but i'm willing to do that!!;) (thanks for your reply:D)

  • Hope you're coming to the states in August there, I would like to see a huge turnout!

  • good aikido, i've been doing aikido since I was 6 years, (now i'm 16) but i'm not able to participate in grande tournaments since i'm 16, but i will rise!! Brazil, get ready for Holland to come!!:P

  • Alguém que entende pode me responder: Não faz parte da doutrina Aikido não haver competições?

  • Somente no Aikido tradicional. Demais informações sobre o Shodokan Aikido vc poderá encontrar no site descrito acima.

  • this is nothing for BJJ fighters

    Crap vid.

  • really? Cause I have lots of BJJ students who love Aikido

  • he probably doesn't even do BJJ. and why isit thyat so called BJJ guys always have an attitude.

  • looks like shitty white belt level judo.

  • well that would be because of your ignorance as A) it is a sister sport to Judo (congrats you win the secret prize) B) b just like most judo comps, the throws aren't exactly "pretty" but ya know... I've seen judo that looks like shitty white belt Aikido

  • feel free to comment, but I doubt if you understand what is going on ..it always looks easy until you try it! most people at an early stage in learning martial arts feel their way is best ...after 20 years or so you get a more rounded point of view ....goood luck in your training

  • I've done competition and it is a lot harder than it looks. My main problem (and one I'm trying to resolve for myself) is that there is FAR too much strength used in all competition. Easier said than done, but relaxation really is the key to good Aikido, as opposed to dropping on uke's elbow or swinging him around or ripping his shoulder out of his socket!

  • Well timed gedan ate and very low to boot! Nice one!

  • foda essa queda...absurdo!!!

  • cool!
