This restaurant try's to mix two different kinds of Japanese cuisine (Shabu Shabu and Yakitori) in an attempt to cover the market, but fails horribly. The food is overpriced and the portions are tiny. The owners aren't even Japanese, they're Korean! The waitress came back to tell me that half of the items I ordered were unavailable. For Shabu Shabu I would recommend going to California Shabu Shabu on Brookhurst or for Yakitori I would recommend Shinsen Gumi on Brookhurst.
My experience at the Sakura Restaurant was the complete opposite of your description. I have already gone to the California Shabu Shabu and their portions were less than what I recieved at Sakura. Sakura's food was delicious and perfectly portioned. Compared to other Shabu Shabu restaurants that do not serve fresh meats, Sakura offers an appetizing meal at an affordable price.
The owner is named Andy Dang. Since when was Dang a Korean last name? The owner is Vietnamese.
