Wonderful! Absolutely stunning enunciation, I loved all of it! The ONE thing I didn't like was the OO vowel on "And this shall be for m*u*sic." It sounded a bit too "EW" like for me. Not that I could do any better, of course.
I love the entire cycle, which I sang in college many years ago. Mr. William's performance is stunning. I'm moved by his comprehension of the text and how he conveys that to the listener through Vaughan William's glorious music. I'd love to the entire cycle sung by Mr. Williams.
f145h, it is the song of a tramp singing to a girl he has met in passing and tempting/teasing her with a romanticized vison of their life together as tramps . . .
I sang this song in the 1960s when I was at junior school in London. It was part of a song festival for schools and we all trooped up to the Royal Festival Hall for it. I thought this song was beautiful at the time and it still brings a tear to my sentimental eye !
Well, I could be wrong, but I just sang this for Solo Fest last year. I believe it's a "Romance" song about a man explaining to his lover the perfect life and how he will provide for her. In short, he is explaining a fantasy. Fire symbolizes many things and as I'm sure you're all aware, one is love.
The point I'm getting at is, how often would you see a nice romantic fire blowing on the road beside you? It's all apart of a fantasy love and that fire is the perfection to the relationship.
im performing for nyssma, and its spelled brooches.

I will make you brooches and toys for your delight
Of bird-song at morning and star-shine at night,
I will make a palace fit for you and me
Of green days in forests, and blue days at sea.
I will make my kitchen, and you shall keep your room,
Where white flows the river and bright blows the broom;
And you shall wash your linen and keep your body white
In rainfall at morning and dewfall at night.

And this shall be for music when no one else is near,
The fine song for singing, the rare song to hear!
That only I remember, that only you admire,
Of the broad road that stretches and the roadside fire.

*Brotches

It can be spelled either way. "Brooches" is the English spelling. And seeming how Vaughn-Williams is English...

Oh, well i just sang This for districts (which I got a one on Whoot whoot!) and it was spelled "brothces" but it might just be the arranger.
