If you can not get him to sing the part,I am available and for less money....I learned the part in Italy and know "by heart " some other tenorparts... I purchased the DVD of the MET HD LIVE broadcast. This final scene is what I come to EVERY TIME I listen to this man singing. We all have our likes and dislikes, our preferences and personal favourites. BECZALA is mine. He'll be among the greats. For sure.
For as much as I admire the voice and ability of this tenor, this performance is dangerously on the edge of collapsing at several points. He's definitely singing too heavy in many places which severly taxed his ending to the aria. All notes executed , but not a fine line. the finer art of singing was sacrificed for dramatics.
@unotenore Watch the live performances & the wild movement of the jaw in order to make vowels. The great ones don't do that, tenors simply can't attempt that or it, as you say, taxes the voice. The melodic line is also thus distorted trying to achieve dramatic effect.
@Lovelytenor1 theres definitely a lot going on with this voice. There is another recording of the same production that sounds better. Cant figure out if its just the mics or a better day.

hmmm, i did not understand first word subtract...if you like Alvarez better instead of Lopardo it is no me to jugde you. Not a bad choice at all. Afterall these are personal opinions.
Beczala es uno de los tenores que mas me gusta, en esta grabación en directo se le siente cansado y su voz tiende a irse a tras, será por el cansancio, espero que solo sea eso cansancio :-) cuida esa preciosa voz , y sigue cuidando la linea, el fraseo, y la claridad en la emisión del sonido, Bravo Bezala!!!!!!!!!
I listened to the broadcast at home in Ireland and I was blown away by Beczala! Both the Polish singers were the stars of the show as far as I was concerned. An absolutely wonderful performance from Piotr.
I saw the HD Lucia too and was blown away by his gorgeous and sexy voice. I was glad I didn't get to hear Villazon in the end. Been a long time since a tenor voice made me sit up and take notice like that! Piotr, please come over to the UK!
just heard him in the HD Lucia and he was awesome. He left Villazon in the water-knocked it out of the ballpark. Where has he been. Piotr--don't go back to Europe--stay with us here in the U.S.A.
I saw Lucia on 29/1 with Villazon and yesterday's HD trasmission. Am sorry for Rolando, who did magnifically on 29. Yet I congratulate Piotr for this deserved triumph!
I saw the October 11th production and Piotr was absolutely incredible the entire night. He totally gave Diana Damrau a run for her money, which is very hard to do..
Great tenor with a lot of potential. I prefer Bezduz to be honest, but would love to hear Beczala live as well. The tempo is a little bit on the slow side as well. And it's not "conforte a lato" - it's "consorte" :-)

Just heard and saw the Lucia on Feb,7th and Beczala was abolutely perfect. He actually was the star and the audience went wild.

He is singing at the Royal Opera's concert of Verdi's Requiem on 13 March 2009. Although it is now sold out you may get a ticket on Ebay
