I had this conversation with my (former) mother-in-law. Church was her social life. Her excuse to be out of the house. Women of her generation/class didn't have many options, but no one could question her if she said she was going to church. That was one area of her life that her husband couldn't control. Even as she told me these things, in her own words, I think she didn't really understand her own position. That's how accustomed she was to repressing her own needs and desires.

Women are more into religion because they're not logic driven, their emotion driven. Most are too invested in their emotions and seem to lack analytical skills. There's a reason there are so few of them in science, math and technical fields. Religion is all about emotions and not thinking too hard, which is right up a woman's alley. It's not that women are stupid it's just their interests are different and most don't like to think when not on the clock.

Just because it's not 'traditional' or appealing to us does no mean we are incapable. Or are you incapble of being a nurse, for eg?
I am sure Hitchens would suggest that women are not in the engineering fields because being in these fields does not help their reproductive success and in fact hurts their ability to raise offspring. It is fairly obvious that women with engineering jobs spend less time with their children than most non-engineering women simply due to the hours and stress common in this field. Most men go into this because it is steady and pays well, and they lack the people skills to get better work.
The nature of human greeds makes good part time jobs hard to get. As an attorney I can say that over the last 15 years standard billing expectations have increased from 1600 hours to over 2100 hours a year. Employers want to push people harder because it is more profitable than hiring more people.
@needparalegal Women are less in engineering jobs because of more family wishes, less interest in the type of job, and also less interest in the knowlegde required, and its kind of the same with math. There are always exception on the gender rules, and people should be free to pursue whatever role they want, on average genders interest vary.

I had this conversation with my (former) mother-in-law. Church was her social life. Her excuse to be out of the house. Women of her generation/class didn't have many options, but no one could question her if she said she was going to church. That was one area of her life that her husband couldn't control. Even as she told me these things, in her own words, I think she didn't really understand her own position. That's how accustomed she was to repressing her own needs and desires.

Women are more into religion because they're not logic driven, their emotion driven. Most are too invested in their emotions and seem to lack analytical skills. There's a reason there are so few of them in science, math and technical fields. Religion is all about emotions and not thinking too hard, which is right up a woman's alley. It's not that women are stupid it's just their interests are different and most don't like to think when not on the clock.

Sorry to be insulting. I don't think all women are driven by emotions, it was a blanket statement, however one I believe it to be more true than not. There are always exceptions to the rule. Like Hitchens comments about women being funny. However, I don't find my statement any more offensive than the comments women make about men all the time. Why don't you tell me why you think women are more likely to go to church or be spiritual.

If so then you are indeed rare. What was your major? Women's brains work differently than mens. They are multithreaded compared to men. They can also analyze more detail than men can, but this seemingly superior analytical ability serves to obfuscate the important factors in favor of minutia. In the area of language women have a distinct advantage in most areas except for persuasive argument and story telling.

That doesn't mean that's true for the majority of women. It's simply fallacious to generalize from a single case (anecdotal at that). And finally you offer no answer to the question why women are more likely to go to church after dismissing HGene's theory. Where's the logic driven analytical skill?

Just because it's not 'traditional' or appealing to us does no mean we are incapable. Or are you incapble of being a nurse, for eg?

I am sure Hitchens would suggest that women are not in the engineering fields because being in these fields does not help their reproductive success and in fact hurts their ability to raise offspring. It is fairly obvious that women with engineering jobs spend less time with their children than most non-engineering women simply due to the hours and stress common in this field. Most men go into this because it is steady and pays well, and they lack the people skills to get better work.

The nature of human greeds makes good part time jobs hard to get. As an attorney I can say that over the last 15 years standard billing expectations have increased from 1600 hours to over 2100 hours a year. Employers want to push people harder because it is more profitable than hiring more people.

@needparalegal Women are less in engineering jobs because of more family wishes, less interest in the type of job, and also less interest in the knowlegde required, and its kind of the same with math. There are always exception on the gender rules, and people should be free to pursue whatever role they want, on average genders interest vary.

@dan012345 Of course, I wouldn't suggest any different. Although a lot of people have trouble with that concept, and in in some circumstances understanding what equality is. Equality is not, for example, both genders have rights over pregnancy.

@Bumblybee256, In Sharia law no woman has a right to a child after the eighth birthday. This is the manner that Islam subjugates children in democratic nations in Europe. Shall the national courts go against a Sharia court? Shall the Sharia court not rule quickly when a woman demands her rights? Women are subject due to women not voicing concerns. Equality is not free. Neither is freedom.

How would you measure this capability?Either you would have to look at the numbers of women in relation to men, for "every" field and then conclude that there are certain fields that are highly male dominated; a poor indicator of "equality" indeed, or you posit women are innately superior,which would effectively make you no less sexist than the average chauvinist.
Please tell me? What is your measure?

I wouldnt say he slurs, he does extenuate in odd places some times. But I always find his voice fantastic and I understand everything. He never seems to prepare for a talk, and relies on his fantastic memory and I see we see it clicking through some times. This has got to be a strength though.
