  • DAT BASS TONE

  • @youngloudandsnotty77 Very Krist Novoselic

  • I miss the mats

  • @schultz970 Me too - the Twin Cities have never been the same.

  • I agree, Love the song and the band, But damnnit, Bob stinson was a fuckin necessity, they were never the same

  • I would have killed to be around to have seen the Mats live (When they werent drunk off their asses :P)

  • @southkid1992 I saw them 40ish times, when they ran the gamut from drunk, semi drunk, the brief smack period and almost sober. The downside is that no matter how many times I go see Paul now, I know that I'll never see the 'Mats again. I was lucky enough to see the Clash, the 70s stones, Nirvana - Nothing was like seeing the Mats.

  • @southkid1992 You didn't miss much. I saw them open for Tom Petty in 1989 when they were plenty drunk. Unfortunately, they sucked. They played 3 songs with about 5 minutes of idle talk between each song. Not what I hoped for...

  • Great song - the band was never the same without Bob Stinson though.

  • Why do you CARE ? Ask yourself that before you ask me why I care about replying to the other idiots. You're even worse then them. Stupid cunt.

  • Just the fact that you have some deep seeded issue that I made the comment regarding all these other fuck sticks, is also applied to you replying to me. Can't you see the irony, you half wit? God, some people....

  • @PBL187 Justin Beiber ? What planet are you on you stupid cunt. I took notice because it's stupid for people to be talking about My Chemical Romance on a Replacements video. It was dumb, so I made a comment, it was just as dumb for them saying anything as it is now you replying to me, you fucking turd.

Feel the urge to lick my sack, you small minded douchebag.

It's cunts like you who talk like inbred morons and ruin these videos. Just like the other douchebags comparing bands.

  • @PBL187 You asked me if I had a problem with somebodies videos and if I did to make my own. I have no idea why, but you did. And then you changed your tune. I answered your question and your response was stupid beyond belief. I'm not trying to act hard. You're just a complete twat and you make no sense. I'm letting you know this.

  • @PBL187 If you can't see the irony in you responding to me, based on your intial question. "Why do you respond if you don't care" ...then you got some serious schooling to do, girly.

I also love how quickly you responded to. Props for never leaving the computer. There goes your credibility.

  • @PBL187 If you didn't care, you wouldn't respond in such worthless, lengthy messages with awful grammar.

    Lol... see ya.

  • @onestep2farclown And stay gone. No posting 3 or 4 comments or goin on my videos and chattin shit before I have even seen the first one. THAT is why I kept replying to you because if I had ignored you, you would not have stopped. like a fuckin dog with a bone lol

  • Art? Jazz? What the FUCK? You people all need to lay the hell back (seriously) and stop being Chuck Klosterman wannabes. Enjoy the fucking song and what it feels like instead of trying to deconstruct society, generations, and god knows what else. Jesus Harold Christ.

  • Why are you idiots talking about My Chemical Romance?

    I don't get it...

  • obviously you kids were not born yet. cool. i do not know who is chemical romance is, and so do not pretend to the replacements...this was OUR time. We were there Bastards!!

  • His shirt makes him look like a ghost.

  • I know I might be coming into this debate late... but My Chemical Romance SUCKS.

  • Comment removed

  • Always relevant.

  • KOL & MCR are overproduced, too damn derivative and transparent to ever hold a doused candle to The 'Mats.

  • @ConalCochran None of you have any idea what a big impact my chemical romance has had on my generation. They are nothing like the replacements, they are a different animal altogether, but what they had, what they were was special. They played with all their heart and soul, put in eveything they had into their music. I say "had" becuase im not really a fan of their new stuff, but I'm sick of people dissing what me and my generation grew up listening to, the music that was so important to us.

  • @artfanatsymanic I saw them in Albany, NY. It was probably 2002 or 2003 and 2 mall-goths in the front knew the words. The rest of the people in the crowd thought they ate shit, because they do. They just needed to find people who enjoyed listening to horseshit, and they did. Congrats to them. They'll never be anything close to the Replacements in any way, including "impact' on their "generation." No one gives a fuck about the latest mall-goth post-emo band. New makeup? No one gives a shit.

  • People like you just like to have some other band to shit on so you can feel better about yourself. You just like to cite some band to shit on so that you look like you're cool and smart and that you know what you're talking about. If the replacements are so great, why do you feel the need to mention MCR, a band you don't like, on their video? All it is, is being a dick

  • @artfanatsymanic It's sterile, calculated, pandering bullshit designed specifically for those with the emotional depth of a preteen.

  • @dashofchutmeg At this point, It is not MCR that you're talking about. What you are describing is just plain flat out false. Even their new album, who's music I'm not personally a fan of because I don't really like that type style, has plenty of emotional depth and insight into life vs. the disasters we experience in life. So what you are saying is quite simply, false.

  • @artfanatsymanic Come on. Do you actually believe that MCR has any kind of emotional depth?

  • @dashofchutmeg What kind of answer is that? Its not about believing. It simply an observational fact. I could site any example of lyrics or songs if you want, but I have a feeling you don't want me to. You will just say that I have the "emotional depth of a preteen". To that I would reply that you have the observational skills and open mind of a thimble.

  • @artfanatsymanic Quote some neo-goth, mallrat lyrics for me then.

  • @dashofchutmeg "We walk in single file. We light our rails and punch our time. Ride escalators colder than a cell-This broken city sky, like butane on my skin, stolen from my eyes. Hello angels, tell me where are you, tell me where we go from here"

"A world that sends you realing from decimated dreams. Your misery and hate will kill us all. So paint it black and take it back"

"You said 'we're not celebrities, we spark and fade, they die by threes"

  • Comment removed

  • @dashofchutmeg How would you be Many years after the disasters That we've seen What if we learned Of all the people burning In purifying flame I'll say it's okay I know you can tell And though you can see me smile I still think of the guns they sell
  • @dashofchutmeg Oh, and if you want to argue with me on the point that these are meaningless, "sterile", "bullshit" lyrics, I'll gladly explain to you as simply as possible the meaning of these lyrics within the context of the song :D

  • @artfanatsymanic Winger of this generation.

  • @dashofchutmeg Buzzz! Wrong again, but thanks for playing!

  • @artfanatsymanic I had a perfectly defined idea...and it was a pathetic one. Get old enough and you'll realize it's so. Now, don't bother me with defense of this dopey band.

  • @ConalCochran Don't bother me with the mantra of needing to be "old enough" to understand and enjoy music. That is a pathetic idea as well. It is just a device which allows you to lay back and say "oh, what you say and your ideas have no substance whatsoever because you are not old enough to understand anything". That way your obviously defined and non-pathetic ideas do not have to be disturbed.

  • @artfanatsymanic I don't expect a person with limited life experience to appreciate jazz, or, say, the pain of "Let It Loose" from Exile on Main Street. That's why kids are morons, and many of them listen to My Chemical Romance because the emotional complexity of their lyrics matches their worldview. Sorry bro, but you're just part of the herd.

  • How would you know I don't appreciate jazz? You do not even know me. And how does appreciating jazz make you so much better than everyone else? That is just a matter of musical taste and if you judge people's intelligence, personality, and understanding according to musical taste then, sorry bro, but you're just a closed-minded duchebag.

By the way, since I am a "part of the herd" and I appreciate The Replacements, doesn't that make the Replacements music for sheep according to your logic?

  • @artfanatsymanic you said "mantra", lol. How pretentious. Anyway, your translation of my statement...WAS my statement...and I didn't need to lay back for it's delivery. Given this..and your love of MCR, I'm guessing you'd make an astounding lyricist...just like the rest of generation OMG:(

  • @ConalCochran Me pretentious? You should look at yourself in the mirror sometime. Your whole attitude and mentality is pretentious. The idea that just because you don't like a type of music, it automatically sucks, is pretentious. The idea that listeners of that type of music need to grow up and see the light is pretentious. Bashing a whole generation is pretentious.

Oh ya, and sInce when does using a moderately challenging word make you pretentious?

  • @artfanatsymanic not the music -- the music is a cold, calculated attack on ignorant consumers like you. It's thoroughly researched. You are not. You'll eventually get old enough and weather enough forewarned bad experiences to have a good laugh about your MCR fandom. Enjoy the minimum wage AND alimony battles in the wake.

Answer to your "question": When you'd never use it in a face to face conversation. Hemingway described such non-sense as "ten dollar words..and mostly useless.":)

  • I didn't have to dig for the Replacements, I snuck into a bar and saw them play the Uptown Bar in 1984, and 453609, you are correct. There will never be another time, another place, quite like what the 80's scene in Minneapolis was. Seattle was not even close. In the 80's we had Husker, Johnny Clueless, Gear Daddies, Replacements, Soul Asylum, Golden Smog, The Phones, Suburbs, then we had Prince, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, The Time, Alexander O'Neal....all over the board. Lots started at 1st

  • Nobody ever will touch the Replacements. I feel bad for my kids and others of this generation. They will never here this stuff.

  • @453609 you should listen to the cribs cover this song. I thought they did one hell of a job. The cribs have lots of respect for the replacements!

  • Love the Replacements. Fucking hate their fan-boys, It's like the Beastie Boys or Rage Against the machine fans - insufferable.

  • The Mats were HEART and SOUL. The Mats were Rock and Roll! Where is that in any of mall music / frat party bands of today ?

  • Ramones in the ground, we're waiting on beer tonight.

  • @ConalCochran isnt it elvis in the ground?

  • saw them three times. the first was good, the second, paul dropped his guitar and refused to play it again.... the third was about the best concert i have ever seen. - you never know what you are going to get .

  • @sparf314 I'm jealous, really, what a fucking nightmare to be born in 1986.

  • @darkfpc I'm with you there, but imagine being born in 1995 and thinking of Soulja Boy as "old school".

  • @dashofchutmeg I can't bare to imagine!

  • COOL SONG 1 OF THE BEST I'VE EVER HEARD

  • they are known for getting shitty drunk and playing terribly sloppy. its a fuckin fact. no one said they were a bad band

  • And no one says that having a good live performance meant hitting every note like they do on the record... half the time paul didn't even remember his own lyrics, but I'll bet their concerts still kicked ass... too bad I was too young to see em.

  • one of the most horrible live performances...thats what the replacements can claim

  • Right. No one would listen to them if they sounded like the American Idol backing band, which apparently passes for talent these days. This is art, buddy, not Miley Cyrus.

  • That's a false dichotomy. They could have been more attentive to their performance. Having attended a drunk show or two--it was a ripoff when they were too drunk to catch cues and when they basically were at the point they didn't care about us. Of course, that's the Replacements, and we loved 'em drunk as much as we loved 'em somewhat less drunk.

Alls I'm saying Lame Duck, sir, is there's someplace between American Idol and piss drunk where we can hear amazing garage punk.

  • Are you proud of your intellectual diarrhea? "they could have been more attentive to their performance". "That's a false dichotomy" Fucking intellectuals always misunderstand true artistic expression. Talk all you want about how "we loved 'em drunk", implying you were there from the start. I know for a fact you weren't. How? Anyone who would reference American Idol in a Repalcements thread is either a charlatan or a dude who says shit like," I dunno, The Goo Goo Dolls are underrated".

  • I did miss the 7th St. run, and didn't see them that often in the 80's--but that wasn't required for me to make my comments. You did spell diarrhea right. You might have used logorrhea to better effect, though. I'm 44, and saw them a few times. That's all I can claim. Nice to (sort of) meet you, Mike.

  • Why's your comment so harsh? I didn't say anything wrong--I was just making an observation about what iamlameduck said--and I didn't reference AI. I have seen American Idol, but don't know much about the show. Who are you?

  • sorry man just drunk and old. bad combo. no offense. i just hate everything.

  • Fair enough. Who are you? I'm Jonathan, 44, lived in Mpls 83-88, 98-04, 09-present.

  • one of the best rock bands ever1 fucking amazing!

  • We are the sons of norway

  • skål

  • tangna high skul song namen e2, lupet talaga sobra bangis ang galing BASTARDS OF YOUNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gary's got a soft on

  • I loved when Tommy moved up to playing T-Birds...although I loved his green Mr. Yuck Rickenbacher bass as well!

  • Tommy can really rock that bass!!

  • Oh my God.

  • why dont have band like that anymore?

  • We do, the mother fucking HOLD STEADY!!!

  • dude for fucking sure. The hold steady are like the replacements meet bruce springsteen.

  • they really don't make 'em like they used to. the replacements were really fucking good.

  • IMMENSI

  • Manson Who lol

  • shut the goddamn fuck up. these guys are way better than any of that shit you listen to while shopping at Hot Topic.

  • Says the person who favorites Marylin Manson videos. The Replacements shit all over Marylin Manson. That untalented fuck

  • i hope that's sarcasm.

  • thanks god no one can be u2, i can't stand one u2, just imagine two.. it even gives me the creeps to think about it

  • awesome, i was at this show, if it's where they opened for Petty. i went for the replacements, and stayed for petty. they both rocked.

  • Cool!

  • Wheres his tele?!?!?!?!?

  • 1000 kinds of awesome.

  • Beginning makes me angry. Oh my God, what a song, what a band. I love Replacements.

  • oh my god the replacements were so fucking amazing

  • Anyone know what happened to the SNL performance of Bastards of Young?

  • I had it up, youtube took it down twice

  • Replacements are obviously one of the best bands of the 80's. I had an arguement with someone saying that Toto was the best 80's band. I always get downright insulted when people tell me they've never listened to the Replacements.

  • thats how it's done

  • I'm very sorry but the Kings Of Leon are no where near as cool as the Replacements...they don't have songs and thats what the Mat's will always have!

  • @sacredo07 AMEN

  • @sacredo07 I have your back if anyone else mentions Kings of lick one in the same sentance with the replacements there will be big trouble. They couldn't carry Paul Westerbergs mic stand around for him. Wow I have heard everything I bet they have a justin beaver poster beside their kings of suck one!

  • DAMN, now THIS is a ROCK AND ROLL BAND!!!

And nice camera work too, man!!

    Way to GO!! :D

  • Just OWNS all recent rock and roll. I'm supposed to be impressed by My Chemical Romance?

I guess if there's any band that is carrying this mantel, it would probably be the White Stripes. And even they care to much about their image.

  • White Stripes? No way. Most overrated band of the last 10 years. Jack White on Rolling Stone's top 20 guitarists of all time? Vomit inducing.

  • Check out The Crib. They done a cover of this aswell, good stuff.

  • Respectfully disagree. To me, it's more like Kings of Leon are the U2 of this generation- a basically average, boring rock band who happen to have just barely enough ties to the underground to appear cool. How about everyone check out Titus Andronicus? Or hell, just check out Westerberg's new album- very good

  • What, exactly, are you talking about? The Replacements weren't huge on radio or MTV. My Chemical Romance are like the Winger of this generation. There is *plenty* of great music being recorded these days, you just have to do a little digging to find it. Just like people had to do a little digging to find The Replacements in the 80's.

  • @iamntbatman Fucking Spot On, i'm sick of hearing how everything is shite today, it's not. Record Labels just don't touch rock 'n' roll anymore. It's much easier for them to roll out the same hip hop/r 'n' b records 1 after another. just do a bit of digging and you'll find something good

  • bob had quit by this time?

  • Bob got kicked out. This is the Pleased to Meet Me Tour, I think.

  • 1989 would have been the Don't Tell a Soul tour.

  • You're right. My bad. I'm embarrassed.

  • Yes, Slim Dunlap replaced Bob.

  • Is Tommy still in the band at this concert?

  • yes, he was always in the band

  • ok thanks.

  • bitchin

  • Proven once again that The Replacements are a legendary band!

  • best fucken band ever

  • great version.

  • Pick dropping version.

  • Chris Mars was still drummer at this point, steve only joined for the 91 tour

  • Steve was a great drummer for them, gave a kick up the ass.

  • amazing song. amazing band.
