Notre Dame lost to FSU and OSU beat an Akron team that would get destroyed by WMU by a score that Michigan would've gotten by the end of the 3rd quarter. Defense still a concern..Yeah they made some big plays which was missing the past few years but those plays were made due to blitzes. That is a concern because the D-line is considered by many (including me) to be the defenses strongest position. If the D-line can't create pressure then those corners are going to be put on an island which concerns me

I went to the game as well, Loved the atmosphere and my voice is a little horse from all of the yelling. We do have a bunch of stuff to work on but it was a great start for our new coach. Loved to see a defense that can figure out an offensive and stick it to them like that.

A safety can have a large number of tackles, it doesn't always mean the defense is crap. If it's a strong safety playing close to the LOS in a defense that requires a lot of blitzing and run support, the safety is going to have a lot of tackles. Cornerbacks that have a high number of tackles, that's usually indicative of a bad defense.

After that pathetic first drive where Craig Roh and Thomas Gordon could not even line up properly, we looked solid defensively. And offensively, we were efficient and effective. Denard's playaction fake to Hemingway, for example, was a thing of beauty. Kudos to Al Borges for calling a great game, and to Greg Mattison for adjusting on the fly when he figured out Alex Carder was like Jimmy Clausen under pressure

To me, the most exciting moment of Michigan's first game was the pick-six, but not the TD run itself. Rather, during the interception, the ENTIRE DEFENSE RAN THE DISTANCE. Even the lineman that made the deflection got up, ran like angry bears were after him and cut off a WMU player upfield!! THAT'S the intensity Hoke & Mattison preach that I haven't seen since 1997. Too bad for WMU but I wanted to see more. Welcome back, Michigan football!

Once Mattison decided to play up on the Western receivers and bring heat, the game was over. When we get all of the right players in here, the defense will be very, very good. One more DT is a MUST for this class. Pipkins will play from day one, but he's gonna need help.

Yeah man, I was nervous as hell after that first WMU drive. Finally Mattison decided to dial it up & bring the heat. After that it wasn't close. You could feel people relax a bit after the INT return and there was a collective 100,000 person sigh of relief. Kovacs and Herron both played really well & Kovacs had a few big hits.

I am so jacked about Notre Dame next week. They are coming in after a sloppy loss to USF & are probably wondering what happened. I hope we roll em'.

this was fantastic, im still not sold on the defense but they did things today that they couldnt do int he last 3 years, force turnovers. Michigan also didnt show a lot of their offense to Notre Dame thanks to rarely having the ball/not playing the 4th quarter. Advantage: Michigan
