I agree with Keira actually, when I watched the movie I got the sense that Ruth was in love with Kathy, definately, not in a creepy lesbian way, she wanted her to herself, i dont think she really understood her feelings, but by taking Tommy it meant she could stay close to Kathy, whereas had Tommy and Kathy been together, Ruth would always be the gooseberry.

Watching the film made me want to read the book because I absolutely loved the film. The characters are..I don't even know how to describe them. I just loved it.

Ruth, in words, is misunderstood.....but a beautiful , manipulative character, played by Keira Knightly .Keira plays a role that bring Kathy and Ruth's awkward relationship to light. They are family, despite there're the lack of knowing how to be.
